I read about that before. What exactly is the point of that? And how long does it take to get to "level 40"?

No idea, but I agree. I will warn you to not go into arcade mode and start trashing your car, a guy on GTPlanet said he did that with one of his high end cars and racked up 300,000 dollars worth of damage

I just picked up the game, I'm going to install it tonight but won't have time to play until the morning, I'm pumped

not sure how long....i just did licenses and the NASCAR and Kart racing special event and I think I am level 5-6. Probably 2-3 hours of playing....but I am sure it will take longer to level up as you progress.

Guys if you dont know if you want this game buy GT4....if you like that then your will like this and vice versa.

I will have to get a racing wheel before I get this. Is there any bundle deals on the game and a wheel or any black friday deals on a wheel?

I told somebody on FB that you had to unlock damage and he said he had it immediately. I'm guessing he was playing in arcade mode.

edit: Hoping to play some NFS and Assassin Creed (yes...part 1) tomorrow before the hoopla & football games on tv. We are hosting our first Turkey Day gathering.

have u ever played GT before? from the review i read, the SP mode is setup just like it was 6 years ago. basically u do the license tests to be able to race licenses classes of races....u build the faster car u can to beat the cpu cars. Which is real disappointing because the SP is not competitive since u can just use a faster car than the AI will use

another thing i read was there are about 100 premium cars that look sweet. then the remaining cars look like ps2 designed cars

one thing i am wondering about this game is if it took so long to make and kept getting pushed back for years, what exactly were they doing all that time? not to says its a bad game, but nothing worth the wait

Fuck the intermediate Top Gear track challenge. That Lotus is absolutely impossible to control. If you move the joystick anymore than a millimeter, the car skids like it's on ice. I have a wheel (G27) but I don't have any place to really set it up right now (new house is way too cramped and I'm about to go back to school Friday). It sucks since I think I could pretty easily beat the challenge with the wheel, but that fucking controller... you lightly touch the gas and it's full throttle. You lightly move the joystick and your car is careening into the grass. Fuck that car. Fuck that challenge.

...and am I the only one who thinks the Top Gear challenge setup is stupid in general? I mean, Top Gear is all about The Stig putting down a fast lap on the track, not racing 11 other cars that cause you to disqualify for barely even touching them. Speaking of other cars, it would have been nice to see PD actually work on AI during their six years building the game. Seems like the AI is just following a preset course programmed for that race, you know, exactly what it has done for the past four GT iterations.

Game is very frustrating but still pretty fun in the end.

There are 200+ premium cars. Some of the standard look meh and some look good. I played online last nite and it ran very smoothly. Bumping into other cars is not as tragic as it is in Forza. Overall I'll give it an 7.9 as a racer. It is really for the car nut. IMO games like Dirt, Grid, NFS: Shift do a lot of things better and are more appealing to the casual racer. GT5 is a serious and elegant game made for the guy who loves to hot lap and yell at you when you bump him. Different animal.

I think Forza 3 is a better experience as a racer but I will enjoy this game but at some point it will get stale.

I think alot of people are going to say what took 5-6 years. The game doesn't really do anything revolutionary in the racing genre. I guess the track editor. I might never touch that thing to be honest. I would rather edit my car. I am not as interested in watching replays b/c all the cars look the same. I like to watch my custom car cruise the track.

Yeah silvers are easy. But the gold in the slalom is a bitch. The A license on the dirt track going up hill....I earned gold on my first try. I was like wtf???
