New wave of XBL bannings (firmware detection?)

Lots of people on other sites got banned without playing any games early with only verified copies. People are talking that MS has figured out a way to detect firmware now :whisper:

Looks like a lot of people that have been banned have LiteOn drives with 1.6 firmware

Just passing on the info. Virix, you still okay?

All consumers should know that piracy is illegal, and that modifying their Xbox 360 console to play pirated discs, violates the Xbox LIVE terms of use, will void their warranty and result in a ban from Xbox LIVE. The health of the video game business depends on customers paying for the genuine products and services they receive from manufacturers, retailers, and the third parties that support them. This would also be a good time to remind you that the warranty on an Xbox 360 console is not transferrable and if you purchase a used console that has been previously banned, you will not be able to connect to Xbox LIVE.

lol @ people being surprised at this.

All it takes is for a system check to be done and reported back to MS. Anyone who has non microsoft firmware is obviously pirating.

I'm actually surprised they haven't done this earlier. Its really insanely retarded how easy it is to hack the thing. Sooner or later they are going to start putting some stupid DRM into games and all you are going to hear from people is bitching and whining.

Microsoft only cares about playin their games early. They dont sweep unless its Halo. and thats been proven as during Halo releases is the only time people actually get banned

BTW I would LOL hard if they did something like this for MW2. Have DRM loaded onto the disk and if a firmware check is done and not passed your console is flagged. What really would make my day is if they killed the dvd drive with the DRM like they do with some PC games.

Doing it on release day would bring the lulz.

Until c4eva announces in #fw on IRC that MS has determined a way to find the stealth code that they have been unable to find in over 3 years, I am going to say that the people who are getting banned are using spoofed drives or unsafe backups. That has been the only thing MS has ever been able to do and even then they have never done anything that wasn't overcome in short order via an iXtreme update.

                  Truth.

I no longer have my modded XBox which makes times like these much more relaxing. Its always a risk but if you are careful and give time, c4eva has always managed to stay a step ahead on detection of the firmware itself. Even if MS has figured something out, I have little doubt c4eva would figure it out and get out an update.

Past bannings have typically been from unsafe backups from what I have seen. Rarely if ever the firmware itself.

Admittedly, its nice to not have to worry anymore. I rarely took advantage of the modding anyway.

I'm not disagreeing just repeating what I read. I also read more comments from the guy banned for madden and people were saying he was probably using a nuked release whatever that means.

IMO, I agree that bad rips are why people are being caught. Also, it would be retarded for MS to kill the drive when they ban lol. People who do this type of thing know that you can replace a drive in these things for less than $30. Im not sure that would do much to scare anyone.

They still would need to find a way to stop people from gutswapping 360s. IMO, thats a bigger issue than the mod itself.

I'm sure it would piss people off that they have to drop 30 bucks to fix it. They're not exactly the ones who want to spend money.

Lol thats not true at all. The people who have modded systems are also the people likely to own more than one system. EVERY person I know with a modded system has at least one other in the their house.

Also, people who do this sort of thing also do things like fix the RROD themselves (since they cant send them in to MS) so a simple fix like a DVD drive wouldnt matter at all. Hell, people change the drive just to get a different brand drive as it is.

If your console is banned you can still continue to pirate games and play them off line correct?
