Enjoying the piss outta this game, great production.
They need to alter the price point on single play through non MP games. Maybe sell them at like 30 or 40 and then charge a couple bucks for additional playthroughs and shit?
I dunno.
There's no justification to paying 60 bucks for a game I can beat with a 11 dollar rental in a week, no matter how great the game is.Comment

Will just rent when I get the time.

Hell, if both of those Jimmy DLC's came on the disc, and maybe one more chunk of content I'd buy it today. Fuck, if it was real open world I'd buy it today.Comment

I'm starting to see it really is real open world though to an extent. You always have a single mission on your hud but you don't really have to do it, you can get cars for scraps, shop, eat, etc.Comment
-
Yeah, I heard you can shop and stuff, but whats the point? I never really did that kind of stuff anyway in any of the GTA games unless I had to. They need side missions that actually expand on the story or something.Comment

are the cutscenes too long in your opinion or does the game at least have a good balance between the 2?Comment
-
I'm starting to get a better balance. Understandably the beginning is very cutscene heavy but it's been much better past chapter 3.Comment

I don't think they are too long as they of decent quality in telling the story. I do wish the gameplay segments were deeper however but the length of the cutscenes isn't a bother because they are enjoyed.
I have to go ahead and continue to disagree with the "not making it an open world" hate. The world is quite small and very detailed....you certainly utilize the majority of it from what I've seen. I'm well familiar with pretty much all of it and i'm on Chapter 11 of however many....they also do a great job of keeping the environment fresh, but i won't say any more to prevent spoilers.
This game isn't trying to be a sandbox game what so ever and I appreciate it for what it is trying to do, tell a great story.
The original Mafia was great for the very same reason, I just hope the ending is as epic as the original Mafia's ending is one of the best I've ever seen in a game.Comment

How many hours is a play-through looking to be at this point?Comment

Every game needs these. Sidequests that are worth playing. Bioware RPGs have been pretty good with expanding universes through side quests, but I think it's something sandbox-shooter game designers could improve on.
But if the cutscenes are awesome and the story is good, then what?

I've read it takes 15 hours to complete, I think i'll be finished in 12-14 hours total.Comment

There should be more purpose to doing extra shit. Either expanding on the story, having an affect on the environment, or improving your character. But, yknow, I'm an RPG fan.
I usually find most "collect X item" side quests pointless too, unless they are made fun like collecting orbs in Crackdown or in Mafia 2's case...collecting Playboy photos. Always nice to come across a set of classic rockin tits.

Three more questions:
1 - Do you think the game would be any fun to play as a pure free-roamer after you finish the career? Ie. killing random people in GTA, etc.
2 - Does the soundtrack sound as awesome as it looks?
3 - Should I look for a downloadable version of Mafia 1 for my PC?Comment

2) It's pretty good, fits the game perfect. The game spans over a wide range of time, so the music on the radio changes as the game progresses.
3) Absolutely.Comment

I guess to answer the then what question would be.....if i want to see a great story i will rent a movie. i dont play video games for the story, i play them for the gaming aspect. I do like a story that guides the gameplay and gives you a reason for what your doing. But a game like this would only be a rental for most people
im curious to see how this game sells.Comment
