    [PS3] Console Question

Wondered if anyone else has encountered this before. Was playing a blu ray earlier and it froze up. It wouldn't allow me to skip to the next scene or anything. So I had to remove the movie and put it back but my ps3 wouldn't recognize the disc. And now it's not recognizing any of the games I try to play as well. Would restoring my ps3 to default settings help or anything?

Your blu-ray drive has died. It happened to me, I tried formatting to no avail.

    Sony fixes it for 150-160

This place fixes it for 119, I used them. I think it was around 8 business days turnaround.

    Sorry man

What Beer said. You might want to check CL for a local shop that will replace the lens/drive.

That blows. Just out of curiosity, how long have you had it and what model?

I'm surprised I haven't had any problems (***knock on copious amounts of wood***). I play tons of games on it and it's my primary movie player.

The fact that they charge that much to fix it is complete bullshit. Half the price of the console? GTFO. $80 or so would seem more appropriate.

You can buy stand alone Blu ray players with Netflix widgets or whatever for less than that. Crazy price.

Had it about 4 years. The old fat ones. Didn't have any problems until I started playing blu rays regularly.

Im trying to sell mine for $150 to $200 so I can upgrade to the slim. Just buy the slim instead of fixing it. Hell For $150 more you get an upgraded system and 2 games if you buy the right package deal.

I'm guessing it is a 40 gig, but if it is a launch console I would get it fixed.

The launch consoles have backwards compatibility with the PS2 and command a premium on eBay or CL. Since I still have my PS2 if I want to play older games and never used the backwards compatibility on the PS3, I sold my 60GB fat model for enough to buy a 250GB slim and an extra dual shock controller.
