you can bring a tourney player to sim thats how I came over I love playing sim over the tourney style just because it takes more skill and intelligence to play. Tourney is about winning thats pretty much the bottom line do what you can to win which may only be two plays and also very boring. Sim is about having fun and playing the game the way it was meant to be played not solely bent on winning but having fun
yep, thats damn right ! sure, its sports game so you would like to win..but I refuse to do it at an all or nothing level. Internet gaming has the biggest trolling factor ever.
a miracle of modern science and these kids screw it up by just trying to find AI holes, not caring that there is another human at the other end from possibly thousands of miles away.
the people that say its my money,my game, i can play it how i choose have no grasp of common sense and are shallow and selfish no matter how you try to defend them.
heck, I dont even know how to surprise onside kick and dont care.... i do know that if you are in onside kick return formation, you can usually recover a surprise onside kick LOLComment

Classifying cheese by the # of plays run is completely out of touch.
The Manning-Colts ran about 12 plays total in 2006. Some games they only ran 6 (inside zone, outside zone, levels, deep cross off of PA, 3 verts and a shallow cross, and draws).
If you wanna call a player "cheesy", you're going to have to dig deeper than "X player only runs x plays."
I also find restricting a player to play according to your expectations to be completely naive and weak. Play how you want to play as long as it's within the rules of football and not some horseshit where you get the QB to walk up the field or snap the ball directly to random WRs.
That being said, at the same time, it's lame for someone like me (who plays X's and O's but also plays at the competitive/tourney level) to act dumb and take advantage of sim communitieis when I know I'd be chastized for playing style despite winning 99% of the time.
I think the misconception is that sim equates "football knowledge" or "coaching skill". Nothing could be further from the truth. I've seen guys that claim to be sim be COMPLETELY and utterly wrong about the X's and O's they speak. Granted, the sim community has more football knowledge. Just because I can send 3 at your offense and get 1 free off the edge in Madden doesn't mean I know football 1 way or another....just as someone who chooses to choose inferior plays (in the game of madden) simply for the sake of being "simulation" doesn't mean they know football one way or another. I could call inferior plays, such as I-Form Normal: Slants and run them stock and claim to "know football" more than a guy who chooses plays that have a higher success rate in the game.
It's a video game. Play it. The day we put headsets on and coach real players against one another is the day I worry about football knowledge.Comment

There are no style points in tournament play. The self-gratification is nice, though.
I'll be honest. I have the most trouble against "random" playcallers. If I know a guy wants to chuck streaks at my head, I've got answers for that.
But a dude who does random, off the wall stuff, like Singleback Ace Pair: HB Power O (WITH AUTOMOTION) or runs plays stock...they get to me...for a drive or two...Comment

Not at all what I said.
I pride myself on defense....but it doesn't change the fact that the more "off the wall" play callers (like who REALLY calls HB Misdirection...it's awful and takes too long to develop) are the toughest to stop, because you don't really have tape (not literal tape, but you haven't seen the look much). And who really calls PA? It's awful. But guys who do that will mess you up for a drive or two, and then it's stopped.
Whereas, someone who comes in running bunch, snugs, tight doubles, strong close, i close, and just chucking corners and seams...they are dead from play 1...if you're halfway decent.Comment

The whole sim thing has grown blurry for me.
I always considered myself a sim player. but what I don't understand is why people constantly whine about play calling.
My idea of "sim" ball was simply playing fair. people deliberately glitching the games with things you simply cannot stop were people I was trying to avoid. That's really why I stumbled on sites like this one. I've played in a few leagues and I won't lie, just about every game I've won I've dealt with complaints.
I always ask them, "How?, How am I cheating? what am I doing that you cannot stop?". And the reply more than often is "you keep running sweeps, you keep running outside, you call the same defense every time, you keep running sweeps.".
I've always kind of been a "take what you can get" type of guy. So I kind of watch how the defensive guy wants to play and I play off of that. I feel like I've got a lot of stick skill and that helps me a lot. but the main point is, a lot of times I see people blitzing. when I See that blitz I already know a sweep is going to pop it. I don't understand why guys wont call other defenses. why not run zone, even man if you're desperate? Instead, they get pissed, call me out and make me look like I'm doing crazy shit.
Basically I'm being told "SIM" Ball requires me to ignore the fact my opponent has called a weak play, it tells me to not shift my tight ends and wide receivers to get mismatches on the los, it tells me not to take advantage of weak playcalling tendencies of my opponents. in addition, it also compels me to cease running defensive sets that look to hide their coverages, despite the fact that these sets are completely legitimate, no cheezy nanos or crazy shit like Vernon Davis at Middle Linebacker with Calvin Johnson at Free Safety.
To be honest with you guys though. I already figured it out.
We just got some salty mf'ers here.Comment

its simple...if you know more football than me and are keying on my weakness or what i'm doing wrong..thats fine.
but if you are some IT freak who just knows and exploits every AI hole and also does stuff outside of football logic in the process..and doing it all because you will not,can not, better not lose..thats a problem and no fun for both parties..especially if i'm playing you online and have no idea who you really are.Comment

I still believe this term is thrown around too loosely and is applied to individuals unfairly.
I've got a reputation as a "cheesy" player but if you ask anybody I've played why I'm cheese they're not going to be able to give you a legit reason. TBH if they are able to I'd love to hear it, because there's no point in playing the game if you're not playing it fair, I need to know these things so I can adjusts my playing style.
The one I hear the most is Motion. that's one I'll never understand. We all understand offenses (especially at the professional level) often move around skill players to get blocking mismatches (more blockers on one side of the ball) or WR mismatches like getting a linebacker to cover the WR when you see they're running man.
I think the real issue is guys are impatient. they're ready for the play to just fire off but I'm not going to do that. I'm going to analyze the shit out of your defense with my Armchair QB skills and I'm going to try my best to call the best play. is that not "sim"? I've been watching Peyton Manning do this for more than half of my life.Comment

again, its simple....is it football knowledge or AI abuse? You have to be intellectually honest with yourself to know that.
Dont tell me after you are constantly getting yards from one play that I just dont know how to stop it. I must be trying every play to stop it but nothing is working..that means you found something with AI holes.... I played a guy the other day who said he was sim and then on 3rd and 5 comes out in goaline or the formation with 2/3 tight ends to one side and runs the ball....? no one in the history of the NFL does that...at least not since 1925 LOLComment

Well, If I thought or knew I was abusing the AI I probably wouldn't have posted.
I'll use another example aside from the Motion one however. I see Humble thanked your post and this isn't any type of attack but I'm going to use him as an example.
We played a game in the Clutch Playerz Xbox 360 Madden 12 League. He was the Arizona Cardinals and I was Pittsburgh. it was a pretty one sided game, so I can understand frustrations, and I'm not going to judge anyone after that type of game. I guess I'm trying to emphasize here that this is not a personal attack against Humble but I'm just trying to show folks what I mean by this.
The game was a blowout, and when it was over Humble complained to me that all I ran was a 4-2-5. Now I didn't run a nickel package the entire time, I only run a nickel package when I see guys come out with more than 2 Wide Receivers, so the complaint imo was unwarranted, I came out in plenty of 34 in the start of the game, but when the game got out of control and I understood he was no longer going to be able to run I stopped worrying about getting 7 guys in the box. A common theme I see with guys is they get flustered and immediately point fingers at their opponent if their game isn't working like they think it should. I came out in a nickel base towards the end especially because I wasn't worried about him getting yards through the run game (which he did iirc start to pick up on) It was just tough for him because running the ball at that point wasn't time effecient enough for him to get back in the game.
Like I've said in my first post though. I know I'm not cheese, and even the individuals who've given me all these prestigous cheddar awards know I'm not cheese, if they do they've yet to legitimately explain why. We just have a lot of salty mf'ers who don't like to lose.Comment

the entire nation is a bunch of cheesers LOL
Ive been playing alot of madden team play for the heck of it. ..and it appears almost no one has a basic football concept.
they call a play action play the first play of the game from their own 10 yrd line ???? (of course it could be children )
everyone and their mother calls nickle-man coverage- line backer blitzes every down , thinking its a standard fool proof defense...have they been doing this for 6 months?
i learned in a short time that most of the time, calling man coverage gets you beat deep alot ..and of course if you are in man defense, the run game will eventually bite you hard....you mean to tell me that 90% of the people that buy madden havent figured out that 3 and 4 deep blue zones are more effective against pass happy fools? i never ever come out in man unless i think it might somehow fool you...but it brings me to tears that time and again these fools get beat deep and dont adjust ..they just think its a competative game and the other guy must be good too...? LOLComment
