About 1/3 of the way on survival, picking up all the pendants, artifacts I missed as well. IMO I feel this difficulty is the staple mark of how the game should be played. Pretty hard but not cheap

This review really made me contemplate the scene that the reviewer bases a lot of her final score on. Now, I can absolutely disagree with her about the 8/10. For reference she also did a three page review on Infinite and gave it a 10/10 so obviously she and I have very different opinions on games.

Her biggest issue was the scene in the operating room. She says that she was completely pulled out of the experience because instead of ND just giving us a cut scene they let up play that scene out and she decided to shoot the doctors and nurses in the feet and they still died. So basically, there was no choice at all and even if you slightly deviate from what you think the only choice is it breaks the game because the doctors and nurses will die even if you just shoot them in the foot.

Personally, when I got to that part I was so invested in the game and Joel's character that I barely hesitated and thought "Ellie is my adopted daughter now. I'll do anything for her and she doesn't deserve to die even if it means finding a cure/vaccine for this plague." I immediately shot all the medical staff in the face and didn't look back. Several people responded to her review with the same thoughts I had but her response was always the same "But ND didn't give you a choice. It shoud've just been a cut scene." I agree that they didn't give you a choice but I also think that it was on purpose and when you reached the point you should feel there's no choice and do exactly what I did.

Did anyone else treat the scene differently? Did you want to spare them? I'm legitimately curious because I thought ND did an amazing job of putting me in the position I was in where I didn't think twice. In almost any other game I'd want to be the "good guy" per se.

The tunnel had me so creeped out, I tried to sneak past and stealth kill as many as I could. As far as the ending goes I felt it fit the story perfectly. I shot the doctor in the face but left the other two alive. It made sense that Joel wouldn't let her die especially since she saved him, it fits with his character perfectly. I don't think a choice was needed especially considering there weren't any other sections with choices like that. Your main choice in the game was stealth or shoot out. For them to have throw it in right at the end just wouldn't make sense because it would've been very out of character for Joel.

That said, I'd be surprised/disappointed if there isn't a sequel.

My thoughts on the spoiler comments below:

I don't see the rage against them at all. Their root purpose is nothing but a good thing, to essentially end the infection problem is amazing. The cost however is rather difficult considering it'll be her life. In the end Joel made a very selfish decision to kill em all and run, but ultimately so did the Fireflies as it should have been Ellie's choice.

Even if you want to go with the save the girl route, killing the doctors now sets back the progress massively, perhaps permanently on finding a future cure. Maybe someone else comes along and is the same as Ellie, they can then deal with that shit. If they are dead, the cure cannot happen at all perhaps? That's not cool.

Joel isn't a hero, he's just a survivor. Its mentioned in the game that he used to do the things that many of those you fight against in the game did, like ambush innocents. As far as I'm concerned the ending fit right in with everything you did in the game and the way Joel is. As far as the doctor goes, he had a knife and was a threat to Joel, so Joel killed him.

I didn't expect an ending like this, I'd figured it'd be pretty typical but I think it makes the game even better. It fit perfectly with the tone of the game and your actions.

i thought the ending was perfect for those who became "emotionally involoved" with Joel and Ellie. i dont think many would have chosen to kill Ellie with that alone. although; i do think that this leaves plenty of room for the sequel; which would probably take place with a "5 years later" deal. Ellie will be a Master of Survival then and would be taking care of Joel.

admittingly (now); would like to have known about choosing for an "alternate ending"..... letting Ellie die or killing Ellie.

at the very end of this game; would you have lied to Ellie or told her truth about the Fireflies and the possible cure??
i am thinking; that telling her the truth would have ended the storyline; instead of the never-ending quest for the cure....

Just started winter and I already know this is the best game I've ever played on my PS3. I don't play a lot, but try to play the mega-hyped games so I can slowly branch away from sports games. I love the survival/stealth/shooter combination in gameplay and the story is easily the best I've ever played. Glad it's my first Naughty Dog game too because the controls and game objectives(need to reach an unreachable area, find object, climb object) which are starting to feel tedious now, felt fresh for the first two seasons.

Spent 10 days deciding if I had the time to play this, wanted to spend 60 dollars, and if I'd even like it(I hate the zombie genre). No regrets.

              Random thoughts:

              1. For those who may not know, Ashley Johnson, who was the voice of Ellie, was on the ABC sitcom, Growing Pains, from 1990-1992. She played Chrissy.

              2. TLOU is definitely in the running for GOY for 2013. 9.5 out of 10, IMO.

              3. With graphics like this, do we really need a PS4 or an Xbox One?

It's in the running for game of the generation, imo.

This game pushes the system to the absolute edge. There's really no improvement from here. Even with how amazing Naught Dog games look, there's still room for improvement with some textures, animations and environment that just aren't possible with these consoles.

                  This.

My Fat PS3 was able play any game, but this game would overheat it in 10 minutes. Its just too much.

While I can't confirm this, I read where someone said that this game is the first game in a trilogy? Can anyone here confirm this?

Sony has registered TLoU 2 and 3, but they would do this either way. Naughty Dog has stated that Joel and Ellie's story is over, but there's the possibility for other stories in this universe.

Story is completed. Perhaps something else in this universe someday, but merely a speculation.

Would anyone else be interested in another game focused on Bill? That might be pretty great.

Eh. Maybe, maybe not. If it had to be someone from the first game, I'd have to go with Joel's brother, Tommy.
