Kansas City, MO - The Kansas City Royals have announced that they are calling up starting pitcher Erik McCracken from the AAA Omaha Royals. "I'm so excited," said McCracken. "This has always been a dream of mine. And now I'm in the show. This is a dream come true." The young lefty with a recently grown beard will get his chance to see what he can do for a young, emerging team that is off to great start. McCracken will join Kyle Hadley and Kyle Garvella in the rotation, two starters who have looked outstanding so far.
McCracken has really shot through the minor leagues at a much quicker pace than any of the scouts would have thought. He played under manager Pat Casey at Oregon State and was not really a highly touted prospect. In fact, he walked on and Casey liked what he had enough to give him a spot in the rotation. He proved to have such good location and a great sinker that gave batters fits, grounding out most of the time. But with such great talent in the pitching ranks in Corvallis, he was completely outshined, and moved to releif. But McCracken wanted to be a starter. He never gave up and continued to get better, and when the Kansas City Royals were willing to use their last draft pick on him, he quickly made his way through the minors, and has really had hitters guessing lately in Omaha. Though the two Kyles have looked fantastic, the Kansas City Royals' starters have not been too great so hopefully McCracken, the young lefty will be just what the team is looking for.
