I'm sure that we would still have subscription levels for MMO games, as they have dedicated servers and still have to pay staff to continuously monitor, patch, upgrade, content additions, etc. But how would games like Call of Duty, Madden, Battlefield be affected, if at all?Comment

Hate to play devil's advocate, because in principle I agree with you, but without paying for online, do we have the kind of services that PS+ and XBL provide right now, at their current level of quality?

I do remember an article a while back that sepcifically focused on MS and Xbox Live and how maintaining the service cost them next to nothing and it was almsot 100% profit. Even with that they were trying to monetize it by littering every inch with ads.Comment

im not at all excited about the pay per month thing. if the game was free and you could pay $15 per month to play...ok, then i could get 3 months for the price of the game. But this buying a $60 game then paying to play it is unacceptable imo. It is ES, but i dont think that is enough of a value for me to pay that money.Comment

imagine the backlash if EA made people pay $60 for Madden, then charged a $15 monthly fee to play it online. with the amount of traffic that game gets its gotta be comparable to the costs of a MMO serverComment

Yep, it's an investment for sure.
I've done it with some other MMO's and really really enjoyed it. I've done it with some others and got burnt.
Guess it just depends individually how much you're going to play it. No one with a gun to anyones head to buy it or not.I give rep not thanks

I guess the plus side for me (and console only gamers) are that they get to hear two months worth of feedback from PC players on whether it's a quality game or not.Comment
