[PS3] Do NOT Upgrade to firmware 4.45 on the PS3

There appears to be a pretty bad bug that will soft-brick your PS3. Doesn't mater if you have the slim or the fatty. Wait until Sony patches the problem. If you've already updated, don't send in your console to Sony. When they release a new firmware, update via USB and your PS3 should be fine.

Sounds like 4.45 just came out last night/this morning, although the bug does not affect everyone. It sounds like the majority of the people with the soft-bricks have user-installed HDDs of 500 gigs or more.

If you can get online after downloading the update, you should be good. After updating, the user's system would begin to boot up and would get past the welcome screen. But after that, all the user would see is the wavy and sparkly default background without the XMB interface. When they would go to turn off the system, the system wouldn't shut down. They would have to switch the button on the back of the console or have to pull the plug. When they rebooted, the same thing occured.

Also, Sony has already pulled the update so you shouldn't be prompted to update. If you are, restart your system and go online without download the update.

Yeah like me. But my PS3 was bricked after 4.40.

Wondering if there will be any issue for me being on 4.45 playing vs someone online using 4.44.

Are people seeing the problem like right after their system updates? Or is it after people update, turn off their system and then turn it back on later? Been wondering about this. I updated to 4.45 last night before I knew what was going on (and it works so far), but I'm afraid to turn the console off so I left it on all night.

Even though I didn't download the update, and now that it's been pulled this will likely never affect me, I demand two free months of PS+ and two free games from PSN for my mental anguish.

I never got an opportunity to turn my console on today to see if I was fucked. I plan on playing a ton of LoU tomorrow. If I can't because of this shit heads will roll!
