The old adage “defense wins championships” has never been more appropriate than in Super Bowl XLVIII, where the Seattle Seahawks used a ferocious pass rush and physical secondary to pound the Denver Broncos’ explosive offense, 43-8.

RUSSELL WILSON, SEATTLE SEAHAWKS QB
In just two short years, Wilson has silenced the critics that questioned his height and NFL potential. Wilson was as good as ever in the Seahawks’ Super Bowl win, completing 18 of 25 passes for 206 yards and two touchdowns. Wilson’s OVR increases two points to 94 OVR, and both his AWR and TAM received two-point increases as well.
MALCOLM SMITH, SEATTLE SEAHAWKS LB
The Super Bowl XLVIII MVP could have gone to any number of Seahawks, but Smith was a deserving winner. He racked up 10 tackles, a fumble recovery, and a 69-yard interception return that put the Seahawks up 22-0. The former seventh-round draft pick is now an 81 OVR after a three-point boost.
CLIFF AVRIL, SEATTLE SEAHAWKS DL
From the opening snap, the Seahawks were able to get pressure on Peyton Manning without even having to blitz. Avril was a key culprit, as he notched two pass deflections (one of which was incepted by Smith and returned for a touchdown). His OVR increases a point to 88.
