News in Hollywood travels fast!

I am happy to confirm that it is indeed true, Sony Computer Entertainment has signed a deal with Columbia Pictures for a movie adaptation of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and it will be produced by Avi Arad, Charles Roven, Ari Arad and Alex Gartner. We have been working with Avi and the folks and Columbia for quite some time and look forward to sharing additional details on the film in the short future. Obviously we designed the game to be a cinematic experience and we too can’t wait to see it on the big screen.

So with all the Uncharted news of late, could there be a better time to get back into the live-chat swing? In light of recent game delays, (BioShock 2, Singularity and Heavy Rain were all pushed to 2010) we wondered if any other highly anticipated games would suffer the same fate. What's an obsessed game writer to do? Get on the phone and make a slew of PR reps cross their hearts and hope to die that these 14 games would be in our sweaty hands by year's end.

Confirmed: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Our Sony contact says Uncharted 2 will definitely launch this fall. The sequel to Naughty Dog's gorgeous 2007 action/adventure will feature co-operative play, a killer multiplayer mode and top-notch visuals. Codes for the multiplayer beta of Among Thieves went like hotcakes the first time we gave them out -- lucky for you, there's a second beta on the way.

Release Date: To be announced soon (rumors say Sept 30)

Finally, a date we can put a finger on........even if it's a "rumor." ;)

Uncharted 2 Release Date, Box Art, Pre-order Goodies Revealed

Hang on, Nathan Drake! Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is almost here, with Sony confirming to us today that the Naughty Dog developed PlayStation 3 game will arrive in the U.S. on October 13th. Start planning your sick days/pre-orders accordingly.

Sony also released Uncharted 2's final box art, reminding us of Mr. Drake's expert ability to hang from ledges and platforms with just one hand.

Combine that with his expertise at maintaining a shirt that's half-tucked, half-not and you'll see why the stubbly treasure hunter's adventures warranted a sequel.

Oh, and speaking of pre-orders, Sony laid out its retailer plans for a quartet of downloadable exclusives with Amazon.com, GameStop, Game Crazy and BestBuy. Golden guns, right after this.

Yes, those are the golden Barettas that Drake can wield in multiplayer, adding a bit of flash to your online death match and "Plunder" competition. They're exclusive to BestBuy, meaning that if you're into sporting golden AK-47s, that should be your pre-order retailer of choice.

Other retailers are getting downloadable exclusive bonuses too, should your preference for weapons be a little more understated.

GameStop - Exclusive first access to the Multiplayer Demo and the downloadable Revenge Attribute
The Revenge Attribute is one of the last boosters that you can unlock in the multiplayer campaign. This bonus allows you to unlock the "Revenge" booster right from the start of your multiplayer campaign.
That GameStop exclusive access to the multiplayer demo will run from September 9th to September 29th, giving folks who pre-order at that location a two week head start on the demo. It will open to the public on September 30th and wrap-up on Uncharted 2's release day.

Also, if you really like to plan ahead, these downloads will be available to those who pre-order until December 31, 2009. So don't sit on that downloadable gold assault rifle, kids. Grab it day one, if you can.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves – the New Gamescom Trailer

Hello from Naughty Dog! All of us here are working feverishly to apply the final polish to Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. I think I can speak for the whole team and say we’ve never been more proud of anything that has come out of this studio. One word we throw around here quite a bit is ‘epic’. We use (and abuse) the term every single day at Naughty Dog, but I think with good reason. From the lighting to the backgrounds, the animation to the score, the characters, the story, the gameplay, it all feels ‘epic’ to me every chance I get to play.

It was an easy task, then, when it came time to make our latest trailer for Gamescom this week. I just wanted it to feel epic.

One thing you all should know about the way we make trailers is there really isn’t much TO know. We think the best way to show off our games is to do just that, show the game. The footage in the trailer is generated directly from the Naughty Dog 2.0 engine. The only difference between what you see here and what you’ll get a chance to play on October 13th is the speed at which we set the game to run at the time of capture.

I hope you all enjoy the trailer and I look forward to seeing you online when our open multiplayer beta launches September 15th.

I refuse to watch any videos or read anything on Uncharted 2 because I want my 1st playthrough to be the best possible experience.
