Uncharted 2 makes PS3 shine; couldn't happen on 360

Uncharted 2 is set to be a showcase for the power of the PlayStation 3, and Ars speaks with Christophe Balestra, co-president of Naughty Dog, to talk about the power of Blu-ray, the standard hard drive, and why the game couldn't be made on the 360.

"I guarantee that this game couldn't be working on XBox 360. It would be impossible. I'm 100 percent sure of this." Christophe Balestra, co-president of Naughty Dog, spoke with Ars about the technology behind Uncharted 2, the hugely anticipated follow-up to one of the PS3's best games: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. "First of all, we fill the Blu-ray 100 percent, we have no room left on this one. We have 25GB of data; we're using every single bit of it."

Naughty Dog is owned by Sony, and while the developer makes wonderful games, it's very clear why we were there: to talk about the power of the PlayStation 3.

Balestra pointed out how important it is to ship every system with a hard drive. "The fact that every PS3 has a hard drive is huge for us." He went on to describe how the game takes advantage of Sony's offerings. "It's the combination of Blu-ray and hard drive. You can play the entire game without loading. We don't require an install. We're doing all the post-processing effects on the SPUs [Synergistic Processing Units]. The quality of the depth of field we have, you can't do that on the Xbox."

He was blunt about what Uncharted 2 means for the PlayStation 3. "We've invested a lot of time maximizing the power of the machine," he stated. "That's our job, to make the PS3 shine."

TBH I didn't like the 1st one so I prolly won't mess with this game. It felt like a bad version of Tomb Raider to me.

The 1Up guys have been praising this game for months. Apparently the one guy got another hands on with it at that game show they had in Germany last week. He just couldn't stop talking about how amazing the game looks.

With the shape the EA so-called devs have put the Madden street-product in, [sheet], I will be into a lot of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Uncharted 2, SOCOM, etc.....etc.....

Some companies still have their clients interests at heart!

Wish they wouldn't make this a "this is why PS3 is better than 360" type deal. As great as the first and most likely the second will be, they still probably won't trump Mass Effect, IMO.

Given the rabid nature of Mass Effect's fanbase, I would have to agree... the game's not coming out until next year and they are still picking apart every little crumb and detail.

Not to mention the new DLC that just came out/is coming out soon.

I'm guessing they release at the same time because they are obviously two completely different games. I can't even see them appealing to the same fan base. I know I for one have no interest in ME2.

Just pre-ordered UC2 in order to get access to the GameStop exclusive multiplayer demo, and exclusive in-game Revenge Attribute, which will be available to download and play from 09/15/2009 to 09/29/2009....and then opens up to the public on PSN 9/30/09.

The Revenge Attribute is an unlockable booster in the multiplayer campaign. This bonus allows you to unlock the “Revenge” booster right from the start of your multiplayer campaign.

Not so much to actually play online but just to get online and see what the UC2 scenery is like. Not much of an online player, except this year may become one for this and Modern Warfare.

the online play is great for Uncharted 2. Im not a fan of team deathmatch but the other mode they had I forgot the name but you have to capture the treasure was the funnest Ive had all year so far.
