Better than the rest
Just five years into his pro-career Small Forward Danny Granger is making a name for himself throughout the country . Granger who is the only player in NBA history to improve his PPG by 5 each season is currently on pace to do it again as he is set for 31 PPG this season and only getting better week in week out .
Granger is known for his smooth release from three point land and seemingly never missing from the free throw line . However , when we sat down with him yesterday he talked about how his biggest improvement from a year ago is his "drive to the basket" . "I feel like I can be impossible to stop when I am firing correctly .... anybody can shoot 3s and shoot 85+% at the line . It takes a special player to be able to do all of that yet be a force inside .
Granger finally got some national recognition last year by forcing himself into the Eastern Conference All Star Team and picking up the Most Improved Player award with stats of 25.8 PPG , 2.7 APG , 5.1 RPG , 1.5 BPG .
Perhaps the most impressive thing about Granger is his quiet style ... he would prefer to have others talking about how good he is instead of himself . "You know , he's a quiet guy .... some of the less educated fans wouldn't even list him in the top three small forwards in the league yet clearly he is only second to LeBron James and possibly Carmelo Anthony" said Bulls player Derrick Rose after Granger dropped 52points on his team last night .
Andrew Bogut , Marvin Williams , Deron Williams , Chris Paul , Raymond Felton , Martell Webster , Charlie Villanueva , Channing Frye , Ike Diogu , Andrew Bynum , Fran Vazquez , Yaroslav Korolev , Sean May , Rashad McCants , Antoine Wright and Joey Graham . What do all of these names have in common? they were all taken ahead of Danny Granger in the 2005 draft . At least half of these names are sitting on the bench or at home right now . Of course it's easy to say in hindsight some of these teams should have looked at the rookie from New Mexico State .... but as of right now the pick of Granger at 17 is looking like one of the biggest steals in recent times .
As for this season , Granger is in serious MVP contention . With only LeBron James and Kobe Bryant out scoring him he has a legit shot at the scoring title aswell . "It's something I try to not think about , I just play every other night to the best of my abilities .... when you think about individual awards in December things start to go downhill"
The story of this young star is yet to be fully written but for one thing is for sure .... we will be hearing his name for years to come .Last edited by Archer; 10-29-2009, 03:42 PM.Comment
