Munzenmaier To Play Some Runningback For Dawgs!



Thats right, Georgia's 6'2", 224 pound fullback (#48 in picture above) will play some runningback for the dawgs this season. This spring, most of Georgia's runningbacks were out with injury. This led offensive coordinator Mike Bobo to try a new wrinkle in the offense... UGA's backup fullback at tailback. Fred Munzenmaier, a redshirt junior, played some tailback in high school and is moderately quick, especially for his size. Munzenmaier might actually help the dawgs as they don't have a true power back yet. Caleb King and Carlton Thomas are quick, elusive type running backs. Richard Samuel is powerful but has a fumbling problem and Georgia doesn't know what to expect out of Washaun Ealey and Dontavius Jackson. The junior fullback should fit this need. In one scrimmage, he rushed 11 times for 54 yards.

Lindy's SEC Predictions



SEC EAST



1. Florida Gators
The Gators are primed for a run at a third national title in four years and all the components are in place: great defense, leadership, experience, outstanding special teams, a veteran quarterback and playmakers on offense. Another big benefit is a regular season schedule that has potentially only two tough games: LSU and Georgia.



2. Georgia Bulldogs
While the Dawgs lost some big-time talent, it's important to remember that all the scholarship players on the roster were members of top 10 signing classes. So there's plenty of talent on the two-deep. There has been a buzz from Athens that the players have something to prove after being labeled underachievers last season. The bottom line is they should still be in the SEC championship race when they meet Florida in Jacksonville on Halloween.



3. Tennessee Volunteers

Tennessee must rebuild from its second losing season in four years. The offense was one of the worst in school history, ranking 115th in the nation in total yards and 110th in scoring. The defense, tied for third in the nation a year ago, won't be as stingy, despite adding a quality defensive coordinator in Monte Kiffin. Quarterback play will determine if the Vols can compete in the SEC.



4. South Carolina Gamecocks

After another deflating finish to the season, Spurrier brought in a lot of fresh blood to the coaching staff. The head coach needed to do something to spark a team that hasn't hit it big in his previous four seasons. The Gamecocks could certainly use an eight-win season to boost morale, but with Alabama rotating on, the schedule could again prevent South Carolina from truly competing in the East.



5. Kentucky Wildcats

Kentucky should once again have a defense that can compete with most in the SEC, but the Wildcats must find a way to make more plays offensively. If the offense can produce enough to keep the defense from wearing down late, UK will be in good shape for its fourth consecutive bowl bid.



6. Vanderbilt Commodores

Vanderbilt's defense will have to keep the team in games while the offense finds its footing, particularly if Smith emerges as the starter at quarterback. Far from wide open under optimal circumstances, the Commodores may not generate a lot of point. Vanderbilt has to win the games it's expected to win in order to make a second straight bowl appearance.

SEC WEST



1. LSU Tigers
LSU shouldn't have any trouble scoring points, particularly since it has stability at quarterback and should stay away from the numerous turnovers that plagued it last season. The defense must exhibit more consistency and less vulnerablity to the pass and yielding big plays. Injuries could play havoc with a talented defense that is thin in spots, but the Tigers should challenge at the top of a competitive SEC West.



2. Alabama Crimson Tide
After back-to-back recruiting calsses that ranked at or near the top in the country, the team is deeper than ever. The schedule is favorable. If a strong running game emerges, Alabama could do exactly what it did last year -- except this time, everyone will be looking for the Tide, so there won't be any sneaking up on opponents.



3. Ole Miss Rebels

Ole Miss heads into the 2009 season with skyrocketing expectations. The Rebels expect to fight for the SEC Western Division Title and the program's first trip to the SEC Championship Game. With a dynamic offense and experience defense, Ole Miss appears ready for double-digit victories after finishing last season on a six-game winning streak.



4. Arkansas Razorbacks

There are plenty of personnel questions, but the team seemed to adjust and settle into Petrino's coaching style this spring. The Hogs showed their potential with an upset of LSU last season. They have the returning experience to make more noise this time around and make a case for getting back into the bowl business.



5. Auburn Tigers

After initial skepticism, fans enthused again. It could be a surprising year, but several things need to happen -- a quick start, offensive line consistency, better quarterback play, good health, emerging playmakers and an improving kicking game. Is that too much to hope for?



6. Mississippi State Bulldogs

Mississippi State's first season under Mullen will be viewed in the prism of his ability to install the spread offense he's bringing from Florida. If he can be ahead of schedule on that -- and if the defense remains strong and special teams don't provide gaffes -- there's enough on the roster and enough favorability on the schedule to contend for a bowl. Remember, this 4-8 team in 2008 was oh-so-close on more than one occasion.
