Dream Season Turning Into Nightmare; Florida Gets Blownout!
Everyone penciled in Florida for the National championship game this offseason. This team was supposed to rival the '95 Nebraska team and the 2001 Miami team in talent and success. Well now.... this team is one game above .500 at 3-2. They have lost two of their last three games. The last game was against struggling LSU who Georgia had just beaten handidly. Florida left with a 30-14 loss. They have dropped 14 spots in the polls in the last two weeks.Comment

Figgins Set To Return!
ATHENS, GA. --- It might not have been thought to have been possible, but it was.... Georgia just got even better. Star Junior tightend Bruce Figgins is set to play in his first game of the season. Figgins was suspended for violating team rules this offseason. He is an instant upgrade over Sophomore Aron White. Figgins is a better passing threat and blocker in both the pass and run. This means even bigger wholes for heisman contender Caleb King. Also, it helps out Cox as he is a constant check down reciever that is dependable. Georgia just got even better... scary!Last edited by Nash; 07-24-2009, 10:44 PM.Comment

Is This The Year?
By Mark Bradley
Athens, GA - Is this the year? Is this the time when everything seems to go right? For a team so accustomed to coming up just short, it better hope so. Every time it seems like it is their year, they come up oh-so-close. Despite not winning a national championship in 29 years, there is no doubt that Georgia is an elite program. They are one of the winningest teams in the nation over this decade but can't seem to get everything to bounce their way.
In 2002, Georgia started off dominant winning their first eight games before falling apart against Florida. To make matters worse, they lost in the worst possible way. All year they looked calmed and poised during pressure situations. They wilted under the pressure of the Gators. They were held scoreless in the second half and Florida forced 3 second half turnovers. The most telling stat was their third down conversion rate.... they were 0-13. That year, Georgia was the best in the SEC at that stat. Georgia only had three first downs in the second half. The biggest play came with 2:33 seconds left in the game with Georgia at its own 33 yard line down 20-13. On the first play of their drive, they ran a playaction pass. Terence Edwards was wide open at Florida's 40 yard line. David Greene threw it to him but Edwards dropped the pass even though the closest Gators defender was 15 yards away. If he catches that he would have taken it to the house and tied the game.
Georgia wide receiver Terrence Edwards goes up to try to catch a pass from David Greene in the fourth quarter. Edwards was open but he couldn't come up with the catch
However he couldn't hang on to the pass and Georgia went on to lose 20-13. They won out and beat Arkansas 30-3 in the SEC Championship game. Georgia played Florida State and won 26-13 but Georgia would have won in a blowout if Richt wanted to. Georgia was 11-1 and finished ranked 3rd. It just happened that the two teams ahead of Georgia went undefeated, Ohio State and Miami.
In 2005, Georgia started off the year with a bang beating Boise State by a score of 48-13. They won six more in a row after that and played Florida on October 29th. Unfortunately for Georgia, their star player, quarterback DJ Shockley, was out with an injury from the previous week. Backup Joe Tereshinksi III played and he was below average for a SEC quarterback.
DJ Shockley with Tereshinski at the World's Largest Cocktail Party,
Georgia struggled mightily on offense only scoring 10 points. The defense was excellent but Georgia lost 14-10 to the Gators.
The next game, the Dawgs played Auburn and Shockley played but was no where near 100%. The game turned into a shootout and Auburn won on a 4th and 10 pass for 63 yards that sey up a game winning field goal as time expired. Georgia lost a heartbreaker, 31-30.

Georgia won out and went to the SEC Championship Game and beat LSU 34-14. Unfortunately for Georgia, two of the best teams ever in the Texas Longhorns and USC Trojans went undefeated that year.
The 2007 season was a tale of two halves for the Dawgs. Georgia opened the season demolishing Oklahoma State but then got upset by South Carolina the next week at home. Georgia beat Western Carolina the next week and then played Alabama. Alabama was flying high at that part of the season and sent the dawgs to overtime. The dawgs forced a stop and held Alabama to a field goal, 23-20. Then on the first play UGA scored on what is now called "The One and Done" play. Stafford threw a lob to Mikey Henderson who caught it in the left corner of the endzone for the win 27-23.

Georgia then dominated Ole Miss 45-17 and expectations of the season where sky high....... until Georgia played Tennessee the next week. Georgia was demolished 35-14 and didn't look like they deserved to be on the same field as the Vols.
The next week Georgia struggled mightily against Vanderbilt but won after Darryl Gamble forced a fumble at the goal line at the end of the game. Georgia recovered the fumble and drove down to make the game winning kick for the win, 20-17.
That was the first half of the season. Then the Dawgs went on a six game run that almost brought them a national title. During this run, "Evil Richt" came out in every game. "Evil Richt" is their head coaches' alter ego according to Georgia fans in which Richt becomes more aggressive in his gameplans. He also isn't timid on the sidelines.
This persona first showed its head when after Georgia scored against Florida, he sent the entire team to dance at the endzone.

Georgia went on to win the game 42-30. Georgia beat Troy the next week and then "Evil Richt" showed up again. Richt during the week heading into the Auburn game asked the fans to wear black at the game. Speculation was ignited and the game had an insane aura about it. Then, Georgia came out in new black uniforms and dominated Auburn 45-20 in what is now known as "The Blackout."

Georgia won out but Tennessee won the tiebreaker since they won head-to-head and represented the East in the SEC Championship game. The next week's polls caused a major controversy. Georgia was ranked third in the nation and the number one and two ranked teams lost. Under common sense Georgia would move up in the rankings and secure a spot in the BCS Championship. However, Georgia was dropped to 5th and the championship game was LSU and Ohio State, two teams Georgia believed they could beat. Georgia dominated Hawaii in the Sugarbowl but was not awarded a split national championship.
You see, if this 2009 Georgia team wants to play for all the marbles then it must do what these teams couldn't. They must stay poised under pressure, stay healthy, and not slip up on an easy game. If they do that, this team might be hoisting the trophy in January.

yeah man. it really was.
That 2002 Florida game still hurts He was soooooooooo fuckin open.
the worst part is that I could have made this longer with the 2003 and 2004 season. That 2004 season when we blewout LSU and then got beat by Tennessee the next game :banghead:Comment

It's both frustrating and rejuvenating because, for one, it makes you realize how close we were if we could just win that one big game...but it's refreshing becaue I think this freshman class right now and the one coming in next year can win a National Championship.Comment
