Eagles Win Game on Final Drive; Philadelphia Becomes NFL Champions

Eagles Win Game on Final Drive; Philadelphia Becomes NFL Champions

    (12-4) - 21 vs. 28 - (12-4)

    Recap:

Super Bowl XLIV lived up to all of it's expectations. Two established quarterbacks, two high-powered offenses, one winner. Today's winner was the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles led by a score of 14-7 for the majority of the game, until the fourth quarter when the Indianapolis came back and managed to tie the game at 21. Donovan McNabb and his Eagles offense had a minute to execute a drive to win Super Bowl XLIV.

The Birds had moved the ball just past the 50-yard line successfully in about thirty seconds. Al Michaels called what happened next best.

"And McNabb drops back, has a man wide open across the middle, and he hits Hank Baskett! Not a defender in sight as Baskett takes the ball in to the endzone! A David Tyree-esque play, with a little known receiver coming through for his team in the Super Bowl, Hank Baskett has given the Eagles the lead!"

    :

With just 27 seconds remaining the Colts didn't have enough time to punch the ball in the endzone, making the Philadelphia Eagles world champions.

Donovan McNabb was crowned the game's Most Valuable Player after throwing four touchdowns in the big game.

"I can't express how proud I am of these guys," said Philadelphia head coach Andy Reid after the game. "We've gotten so close so many times since I've been here, and now, you know, we did it."

I wanna say thank you to all the fans of Philadelphia, we did this for you." - Eagles Quarterback, Most Valuable Player, Donovan McNabb

The Great Debate: Baskett or Tyree?

The Great Debate: Baskett or Tyree?

Hank Baskett's superbowl catch could go down as one of the greatest ever.

Before Sunday's Super Bowl game, Philadelphia Eagles' wide receiver Hank Baskett was more well known for starring in E!'s reality show "Kendra" than being a football player.

That was all changed in a matter of seconds when Hank Baskett made a huge touchdown reception to put the Eagles ahead of the Colts with just 27 seconds remaining, eventually winning Super Bowl XLIV for Philadelphia.

                :

Baskett's catch shown above is very comparible to that of David Tyree's, who made a nearly impossible reception against his helmet to help his New york Giants defeat the then undefeated New England Patriots in the Super Bowl.

Judging by degree of difficulty, Tyree's takes the cake. Baskett didn't have a defender within ten yards of him, while Tyree was surrounded by Patriots. However, Baskett's catch showed more importance, as it directly won the Super Bowl for the Eagles, while Tyree's catch left the Giants with some unfinished business.

The verdict: One can't be taken over the other. Both catches were clutch plays, and the receiver's teams wouldn't have won the big game without them.

Eagles Ink Vick to 4-Year Extension

Michael Vick played well for Philadelphia last season.

The Philadelphia Eagles have extended backup quarterback Michael Vick's contract to a four year dealworth about $5.47M.

Vick appeared in ten games for the Eagles last season and was productive in both the run game and the pass game. His versatility makes him one of the most dangerous players in the league to cover.

Eagles Re-Sign Jordan to 2-Year Deal

Akeem Jordan will help solidify the Eagles' young linebacker corps.

The Philadelphia Eagles have re-signed free agent linebacker Akeem Jordan to a two-year deal with an estimated $2.16M.

Jordan had a productive year at outside linebacker that included three sacks and two forced fumbles. Jordan will look to improve in the next two years to make Philadelphia's young set of linebackers more intimidating.

                                Tatum Bell Re-Signed by Philly

Tatum Bell played well while in an Eagles uniform.

The Philadelphia Eagles have re-signed running back Tatum Bell, who was signed to a one-year deal in the middle of last season.

Bell's new contract is two years long, worth an estimated $890k.

Bell had a productive season while with the Eagles, rushing for 153 yards and a touchdown on just 39 carries.

The re-signing of Bell will most likely signal the release of running back Lorenzo Booker, who didn't even have a single carry last season for the Eagles.
