Eagles Win Game on Final Drive; Philadelphia Becomes NFL Champions
(12-4) - 21 vs. 28 - (12-4)
Recap:
Super Bowl XLIV lived up to all of it's expectations. Two established quarterbacks, two high-powered offenses, one winner. Today's winner was the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Eagles led by a score of 14-7 for the majority of the game, until the fourth quarter when the Indianapolis came back and managed to tie the game at 21. Donovan McNabb and his Eagles offense had a minute to execute a drive to win Super Bowl XLIV.
The Birds had moved the ball just past the 50-yard line successfully in about thirty seconds. Al Michaels called what happened next best.
"And McNabb drops back, has a man wide open across the middle, and he hits Hank Baskett! Not a defender in sight as Baskett takes the ball in to the endzone! A David Tyree-esque play, with a little known receiver coming through for his team in the Super Bowl, Hank Baskett has given the Eagles the lead!"
With just 27 seconds remaining the Colts didn't have enough time to punch the ball in the endzone, making the Philadelphia Eagles world champions.
Donovan McNabb was crowned the game's Most Valuable Player after throwing four touchdowns in the big game.
"I can't express how proud I am of these guys," said Philadelphia head coach Andy Reid after the game. "We've gotten so close so many times since I've been here, and now, you know, we did it."
