Arizona (2-1) at Oregon State (2-1)
Corvallis, OR - After a close loss to Cincinnati last week, the Beavers were looking to rebound against Arizona in their first conference game of the season. Despite being 2-1, Oregon State could not feel very confident after having to come back against UNLV and then falling to a Cincinnati, a team that most felt was not as talented as the Beavers. Now the Beavers would face the Wildcats, a team that inexplicably lost a game to the Beavers in Tucson last year. A game that kept Oregon State's Rose Bowl dreams alive at the time. When these two teams meet, there usually is not a whole lot of points scored, and today's game would prove to be no exception.
Defense dominated early on as the Wildcats went three-and-out. Then OSU QB Lyle Moevao was sacked on third down to force the Beavers to punt. A trend that is becoming a common theme this season for Oregon State. But Arizona would be the first team to put an actual drive together as the Beav defense was just able to keep the Wildcats out of the end zone in the red zone to force an Arizona 28-yard chip shot to give the Wildcats a 3-0 lead.
Oregon State's offensive line continued to release the floodgates on Moevao as he would be sacked three times before the end of the 1st quarter. To start the 2nd quarter, the Beavers were forced to punt after a three-and-out. But Arizona also was held to a three-and-out. Finally, Oregon State got something going offensively as they moved into Wildcat territory, but on 4th-and-three at the Arizona 26-yard line, Moevao was sacked as the crowd booed the play call.
The Wildcats responded by marching all the way to the red zone, where they were stopped inside the five-yard line on another goal line stand for the Beaver defense. As a result, the Wildcats scored on a 20-yard field goal to go ahead 6-0.
With under a minute left, Moevao attempted a last-minute drive but the possession came up empty when the senior QB threw up a prayer that was up for grabs. The ball was easily intercepted by Wildcat SS Robert Griffin as Arizona took their lead into halftime.
If the situation did not look bleak already for Oregon State, it would get much worse when WR James Rodgers left the field with a back injury after the opening kickoff of the 2nd half. Rodgers would not return for the remainder of the game. Not long after James Rodgers left the field, his younger brother, HB Jacquizz Rodgers left the game holding his chest. But it did not stop the Beavers from producing their best drive of the game as Moevao found TE Howard Croom in the flat who took in for a 31-yard touchdown. The crowd came back to life with the first real applause from Reser Stadium as the Beavers took the lead 7-6. It was then that the viewers learned that Jacquizz Rodgers had bruised ribs but would continue to play.
OSU QB Lyle Moevao finds TE Howard Croom for a 31-yard touchdown.
But the Wildcats would not waste any time responding as QB Matt Scott hit the outstanding TE Rob Gronkowski who ran through an arm tackle and took in for a 39-yard touchdown to regain the lead for Arizona 12-7 as a two-point attempt failed.
Arizona TE Rob Gronkowski runs through a tackle for a 39-yard touchdown.
A good return by WR Reggie Dunn would put the Beavers in business at the Wildcat 42-yard line. After a couple of good passes by Moevao, the Beavs were in the red zone, but after a pass was broken up in the end zone that was intended for TE Howard Croom, Oregon State was forced to settle for a 25-yard field goal to make it 12-10 Arizona.
The Wildcats appeared to be in position to put another touchdown on the board but the OSU defense came up with another goal line stand to force a Wildcat 28-yard field goal to start the 4th quarter with Arizona going up 15-10. On the ensuing possession, Oregon State would be held to another three-and-out as Moevao was sacked yet again. Later, on what looked like a good run by Arizona HB Nic Grigsby, but OSU CB Patrick Henderson was able to knock the ball loose as the Beavers recovered the fumble, setting up OSU would terrific field position. However, on the very next play, OSU HB Jacquizz Rodgers was stripped of the football by Zona CB Devin Ross, and the Wildcats recovered and returned it all the way for a touchdown as Reser Stadium sighed in disbelief. The Wildcats put the ball through the uprights for the extra point to give Arizona a 22-10 lead as fans started filing out.
OSU HB Jacquizz Rodgers is stripped of the football by Zona CB Devin Ross for a fumble recovered for a touchdown.
It definitely did not look good for Oregon State but Moevao engineered an impressive drive, maybe the best of the season as he finished off with a strike to TE Howard Croom in the end zone for a nine-yard touchdown to make it only 22-17 Arizona.
OSU TE Howard Croom with his 2nd touchdown reception of the game to give Oregon State a chance.
With all of his timeouts left, OSU head coach Mike Riley decided to put the game in the hands of his defense and not attempt an onside kick. But when Zona HB Nic Grigsby broke off an 18-yard run, his best run of the game with 1:49 left, the game was all but over. QB Matt Scott would throw a completion for a 1st down and the Wildcats would line up in the victory formation, downing the ball and Oregon State fell to 0-1 in the Pac-10.

Week 4
#6 Penn State Comes Up Short in OT Against #17 Iowa
PSU HB Stephfon Green's fumble in OT ended the game.
State College, PA - A cold, rainy night in Beaver Stadium was where the Nittany Lions would look to avenge their loss to Iowa last year that cost Penn State a shot at a national title. It looked like the Lions were in business to score when QB Daryll Clark converted on a 4th-and-18 in Hawkeye territory to set up the Lions inside the five-yard line, but the Iowa defense came up big to hold PSU to a 19-yard field goal as Penn State went on top 3-0 after a very long, methodical drive.
But Iowa responded with an impressive drive of their own as QB Ricky Stanzi was hot. Finally, HB Jeff Brinsen leaped over the pile for a 2-yard touchdown to put the Hawkeyes ahead 7-3 going into the 2nd quarter.
All was going well for the Hawkeyes until QB Ricky Stanzi slipped and then quickly got rid of the ball into coverage where it was picked off by PSU CB AJ Wallace. The Nittany Lions would take advantage as FB Larry Federoff bulldozed his way in for a 2-yard touchdown to put Penn State back in front 10-7.
However, the Hawkeyes quickly got back into the red zone where this time Stanzi stepped up confidently into the pocket and connected with WR Derrell Koulianos for a nine-yard touchdown to regain the lead for Iowa 14-10. But the back-and-forth scoring continued as QB Daryll Clark responded for the Lions by hitting WR Brett Brackett in the end zone from four yards out to put Penn State back in front 17-14 heading into halftime.
Both defenses would step up their game in the 2nd half, but Pen State would get bad news when their outstanding CB AJ Wallace left the game with an abdominal tear which looked pretty serious. The early diagnosis is that Wallace will miss 12 weeks. Iowa would tie the game 17-17 with a 39-yard field goal.
Early in the 4th quarter, the Hawkeyes were forced to punt from their own end zone because of an oustanding punt by PSU that pinned Iowa inside their own five-yard line. However, even with PSU starting inside Hawkeye territory, they went three-and-out, forced to punt the ball away. Fortunately, the Lions would get the ball back and HB Evan Royster started picking up 1st downs in the run game as Penn State started pounding the rock. With :40 left, PSU connected on a 21-yard field goal to go ahead 20-17. But the Hawkeyes still had two timeouts with :32 left in regulation. Iowa QB Ricky Stanzi did was asked of him and then with :07 left to go, the ball was handed off to HB Jeff Brinson on a draw which took Penn State by surprise as Brinson got a 17-yard gain and got out of bounds. With :01 left in regulation, Hawkeye kicker Trent Mossbrucker knocked through a clutch 36-yard field goal to tie the game 20-20 to sent the game to overtime.
In OT, Iowa could only manage to attempt a 36-yard field goal where it looked like it was going to miss but the ball hooked inside the upright to put the Hawkeyes ahead 23-20. The game would come to an end when PSU HB Stephfon Green fumbled the ball which the Hawkeyes recovered as the Nittany Lions fall to Iowa again.

Oregon State Lands Top TE
TE Joe Allen 4* #1
Spring Valley, CA
Committed: Oregon State
CIT: B+ IBL: B- RBF: B- PBF: B-
The Beavers received their first commitment from the top TE prospect in the nation, Joe Allen from Spring Valley, California. Allen is a very good blocker in both the running and passing games with excellent footwork, and has been known to pancake a defender from time to time. But he also can make a clutch catch in traffic and will likely be OSU's future QB's best friend.

Game of the Week
#23 Clemson (3-1) at #25 Maryland (4-0)
Chris: Well, it has been a while for these fans in College Park to see a game that has any kind of appeal nationally but that is what we have here today as the Terps will try to stay unbeaten. They will have to do it against Clemson whose only loss came against Georgia Tech, the game where the Tigers lost their excellent tailback, CJ Spiller who suffered a broken wrist. A win for the Terps put them in position to make a run at the ACC Championship. The same could be said for the Tigers so this is an important early conference matchup.
Well, last week was quite a weekend for college football as the Tebow-less Gators fell to Kentucky. USC had to score 17 points in the 4th quarter to escape a monster upset against Washinton State. This Maryland team right here absolutely destroyed a favored Rutgers team. (crowd cheers) But of course Clemson had a big win too last week, upsetting TCU. And last but definitely not least, Arizona State was able to knock off Georgia between the hedges. The Sun Devils will host a struggling Oregon State team. People are starting to get on the Sun Devil band wagon after the big win against the SEC Georgia Bulldogs, but look out for the Beavers today. Another game to check out today with be #6 Alabama who will have to play the undefeated Kentucky Wildcats. If Kentucky can win, then we will have to take them seriously. So let's get to it....
Kirk: You know, at first glance, I do need to take this Maryland team seriously. They have a senior QB in Chris Turner who has looked good so far, throwing 11 touchdowns and only four interceptions. And they have an impressive HB in Darel Scott. The problem is that I don't think the Terps are going to find it easy to score against a terrific Clemson defense. However, the senior QB Turner is the difference as I see the Terps continuing their unbeaten run. (crowd cheers)
Lee: I will say that this will be closer than the experts think and your right Kirk, at first glance you do have to take the Terps seriously. But come on, that doesn't mean they're gonna win sweetheart! (crowd boos) Clemson's defense will be dominant today and the Tigers will dominate the line of scrimage on both sides of the ball. I also look for Tiger WR Jacoby Ford to have a big game. The kid is really fast, I mean really fast. Zip-zip-zip and he's gone. That's it...(Lee pulls out the Tiger headgear as the crowd boos the pick) Go Tigers!!!!!

Oregon State (2-2) at #24 Arizona State (3-0)
Tempe, AZ - These two teams appeared to be heading in two completely opposite directions as Oregon State would look to end their two-game losing streak. While Arizona State was coming off of their upset win over Georgia down in Athens. But anybody that follows the Pac-10 recently knows that these two teams fight for tooth and nail to get this victory. This game screamed trap game for Arizona State but former OSU head coach and current ASU head coach Dennis Erickson would look to have his team prepared. To add an extra incentive for the Sun Devils, just as this game was about to start the fans at Sun Devil Stadium found out that #1 USC had fallen to Cal, and ASU was currently atop the Pac-10 as the only undefeated team in the conference.
On a warm, sunny evening in Tempe, the Sun Devils struggled to accomplish anything offensively to start the game going three-and-out. On the other side, the much maligned OSU offense actually put a very impressive drive together. A methodical drive would be finished off with HB Jacquizz Rodgers scoring on a two-yard touchdown scamper to put the Beavers on top 7-0.
OSU HB Jacquizz Rodgers with a two-yard touchdown scamper.
On the ensuing possession, ASU HB Dimitri Nance left the game with broken ribs that is going to apparently keep the bruising back out eight weeks. But the Sun Devils put a drive together that stalled because of a dropped pass, setting up a 44-yard field goal to put ASU on the scoreboard, down 7-3 to open the 2nd quarter.
What followed was a pathetic display of offense as both teams combined for five consecutive three-and-outs. Neither team could run the ball to save their lives and both QBs struggled to find any open receivers. Finally a play occurred when ASU QB Danny Sullivan threw into coverage where OSU CB Tim Clark was there for an easy interception and was able to return it for a pick-six, silencing Sun Devil Stadium and putting the Beavers ahead 14-3.
OSU CB Tim Clark with a pick-six.
However ASU QB Danny Sullivan would put the mistake behind him and engineer an impressive last minute drive before halftime, hitting WR Kyle Williams just short of the goal line, but Williams was able to leap across for a 22-yard touchdown reception to make it 14-10 OSU at halftime.
ASU WR Kyle Williams leaps across the goal line for a 22-yard touchdown reception.
The sudden flash of offense at the end of the 1st half did not continue to start the 2nd half as both teams went three-and-out. Then OSU looked to be getting "Quizz" going but the drive would stall as the Beavers were forced to punt it away. ASU QB Danny Sullivan, probably just trying to make a play launched up a deep ball but OSU SS Lance Mitchell was there for an easy interception so that brought a very defensive 3rd quarter to an end with the Beavers still in front.
But the Beavs could not put the game away as they again went three-and-out. Finally, the Sun Devils made a play on 4th-and-two inside OSU territory when Sullivan somehow found WR Kerry Taylor in coverage who came up with the ball in traffic to keep the possession alive. However, the drive would again stall as the Sun Devils would put a 41-yarder through the uprights to make it a one-point lead for the Beavers, 14-13 with only 2:43 left to go in the game.
It looked like Oregon State might finally get the ground game going but the ASU defensive line led by senior DE Dexter Davis, and DTs Lawrence Guy and Saia Falahola were dominating the line of scrimage. Jacquizz Rodgers was stood up just inches short of the 1st down at their own 48-yard line. Mike Riley thought about going for it and ending the game right there but the risk was too much and the Beavers punted.
It would be ASU ball at their own 13-yard line with one timeout and 1:30 remaining in the game. A sack on Sullivan would set up the Sun Devils with a 4th-and-13. Sullivan dropped back to pass and threw over the top to a receiver in man coverage but OSU CB Patrick Henderson was able to break up the pass as the Beavers came up with their biggest win of the season.
OSU CB Patrick Henderson breaks up the pass on the 4th down play to essentially end the game.

Week 5
#23 Clemson Shows Up Flat, Embarrassed by #25 Maryland
(left) Pick-six by Terp CB Richard Taylor on a hail mary just before halftime. (right) Terp HB Darel Scott with 136 yards on the ground and three touchdowns.
College Park, MD - This was supposed to be a close, ACC showdown between two teams that were fighting to stay in the conference race. In the 1st quarter, one could hardly have known that this was the game of the week as neither team was able to come close to scoring. However in the 2nd quarter, Maryland put the first scoring drive together when QB Chris Turner was able to score on an three-yard option run to put the Terps ahead 7-0.
Later, Terp HB Darel Scott would score on a 4-yard touchdown scamper to put Maryland ahead 14-0. With 1:24, the Tigers finally got on the scoreboard on a 54-yard field goal to make it 14-3 Maryland.
But the Terps were not done scoring as QB Chris Turner engineered a last minute drive ended with a 16-yard pass into the end zone to WR Laquan Williams to put the Terps up 21-3.
Then on the last play of the half, Clemson QB Willy Korn threw up a hail mary that was intercepted by Terp CB Richard Taylor, but the Tigers could not tackle him and Taylor returned it all the way for a pick-six to put Maryland way out in front 28-3 at halftime.
The game appeared to be all but over heading into the 2nd half but the Tigers finally woke up as QB Willy Korn put a drive together and hit WR Jacoby Ford in the end zone on a 13-yard post to make it 28-10 Maryland.
Later, Clemson would have another nice possession but it would stall and then the Tigers failed to connect on a long 55-yard field goal attempt. Then Terp HB Darel Scott broke loose for a 27-yard touchdown scamper as Maryland went up 35-10.
As if it could not get any worse for Clemson, Korn would throw two more interceptions and Terp HB Darel Scott would score his third touchdown of the game on a three-yard run as the Terps embarrassed Clemson 42-10

Thanks. Big win. I wan't sure we were going to hold on there at the end. We have to get our offense going. This is just sad. I almost fell asleep during that game.
On a side note. Oregon, Arizona, and UCLA who only has one win, are tied at the top of the Pac-10. This has already been a wild season.Comment

Game of the Week
#6 Florida (3-1) at #11 LSU (2-1)
Chris: Welcome to Baton Rouge. (crowd cheers) We've got a major SEC duel here in Death Valley between Florida (crowd boos) and LSU. (crowd goes nuts) Well, the unbelievable happened two weeks ago Kentucky pulled off the upset of the year, beating the Gators. (crowd cheers) And now this conference and the national picture opens up as everybody's favorite has fallen.
Speaking of Kentucky, not only were they able to take down Florida, but last week the Wildcats knocked off Alabama. It was really quite a weekend of upsets last weekend as USC fell to Cal who had only won one game coming into the game. Oklahoma fell to Miami. Georgia took down a favored LSU team. (crowd boos) The entire SEC will be in the spotlight this weekend as not only are these two heavyweights going at it today, but the still undefeated Kentucky Wildcats will face an also undefeated South Carolina team in one of the more interesting contests today. And also Alabama will face off against Ole Miss.
Games of the Week
#21 Kentucky at #16 South Carolina
Kirk: USC Lee: UK
#14 Alabama at #12 Ole Miss
Kirk: Bama Lee: Miss
Chris: So with that we will move on to our game of the week, Florida and LSU. (crowd goes crazy) But first we understand Erin Andrews has an injury report for us. Erin...
Erin: Unfortunately, guys it does not look like Tebow will play today as he is still listed as questionable with that pulled groin so that will leave John Brantley as the starter. Also, for LSU it does look like HB Charles Scott will be able to bounce back from the turftoe and he is probable today. Oh yeah...and guys...GO GATORS!!! Back to you...
Chris: Thanks Erin. Had to get that little Gator comment in. (crowd boos) Well, that is a tough break for the Gators but they are still a formidable team without Tebow.
Kirk: Chris, no question they are but these are two evenly matched teams. Without Tebow, Florida is still a great team but they are vulnerable. Look what happened down in Kentucky. And now that LSU has Scott back there running the football, and the Tigers are just tough to beat with these fans cheering them on. (crowd cheers) I'm picking LSU today.
Lee: Not having Tebow is a big deal. But let's not forget about Jefferey Demps, Deonte Thompson and that sensational defense led by Spikes, Dunlap, and Wright. Those guys are good...I mean real good. Florida is way more loaded than LSU but not having Tebow does give the Tigers a chance. So let me get my headgear...(Lee starts doing the Gator chomp and puts on the Gator headgear with a chorus of boos behind him) GO GATORS!

Stanford (1-4) at Oregon State (3-2)
Corvallis, OR - Oregon State finally got a quality win over their first ranked opponent of the season, Arizona State, but the Beavers still have yet to get their offense rolling. Now they would face the Stanford Cardinal, a team whose only win came against San Jose State. But the Beavers were not looking past Stanford as last season it was a loss to the Cardinal down in Palo Alto on the first game of the season that cost Oregon State the Rose Bowl. "I still think about that game," said WR Darrell Catchings. "I thought I could reach the goal line on that play. I couldn't believe it when I lost the ball into the end zone but now I'm a year wiser. Hopefully, this time around we won't need a last minute drive to come back if you know what I mean." Catchings was referring to a play last year when the Beavers were driving late in the game to potentially tie the game when Moevao found Catchings who ran toward the sideline and tried to dive for the pylon but fumbled the ball into the end zone for a touchback as OSU fell to Stanford. But now the Cardinal would have to do it at Reser.
The Beavers looked pumped up for this game from the opening kickoff as Stanford went a quick three-and-out. On the ensuing possession for Oregon State, HB Jacquizz Rodgers got the handoff on a stretch to the right where he was able to get to the outside, slipped past a weak tackling attempt by the Stanford corner, and raced down the sideline, housing a 78-yard touchdown run to quickly put Oregon State on top 7-0.
OSU HB Jacquizz Rodgers takes it 78 yards to the house.
This was encouraging to see as the Beavers have struggled to get "Quizz" going lately and for him to bust a 78-yard touchdown run was a good sign. Stanford, again was unable to move the ball as they were forced to punt. Then Oregon State decided to move things a bit slower this time with a very methodical drive. Finally, the long drive would come to an end when QB Lyle Moevao found HB Jacquizz Rodgers in the flat where he easily outran the linebacker for a 13-yard touchdown to put the Beavers up 14-0.
OSU HB Jacquizz Rodgers with a 13-yard touchdown reception.
Stanford would finally get something going on offense to start the 2nd quarter but QB Andrew Luck would be taken down behind the line of scrimage inside the red zone on 3rd down as the OSU defense again came up big in the red zone, forcing a Cardinal 26-yard field goal to make it 14-3 OSU.
So far in the game Moevao had looked fantastic though by now it is apparent that he misses his leading receivers from last year, Sammie Stroughter and Shane Morales as he has yet to find that go-to guy. But just as it looked like Moevao was finding his groove he threw an interception to Stanford CB Kris Evans. But the Cardinal would not take advantage of the turnover as they went three-and-out. Oregon State would find themselves in scoring position again when "Quizz" Rodgers broke a 26-yard run only to be tackled just short of the goal line. On the next play HB Ryan McCants was stuffed, and then Moevao was sacked. But on 3rd down Moevao hit WR James Rodgers running a slant in tight coverage for a 10-yard touchdown to put Oregon State ahead 21-3 by halftime.
OSU WR James Rodgers with a 10-yard touchdown reception.
The Beavers left off just where they started in the 3rd quarter as a good looking drive with runs by "Quizz" and passing by Moevao had gotten OSU back into the red zone. Where Moevao threaded the needle with a strike to WR Casey Kjos who went up and caught the ball, crossing the goal line on his way down for a 19-yard touchdown to put Oregon State up 28-3.
OSU WR Casey Kjos goes up for a Moevao pass and scores a 19-yard touchdown.
On the ensuing possession, Stanford would finally score when QB Andrew Luck hooked up with TE Jim Dray after a playaction for a 14-yard touchdown connection to make it 28-10 OSU.
Stanford TE Jim Dray with a 14-yard touchdown reception.
As the game moved into the 4th quarter, an OSU drive was held when Moevao was sacked in the red zone. So kicker Justin Kahut put a 35-yarder through the uprights to put the Beavers up 31-10. All hope was lost for the Cardinal on their next possession when Luck was picked off by OSU CB Patrick Henderson who showed an excellent vertical to make the interception and then took it all the way back for a pick-six to put Oregon State way out in front 38-10.
OSU CB Patrick Henderson goes vertical to intercept Luck and take it back for a pick-six.
Later, after another Stanford three-and-out, the Cardinal would send an all out nine-man blitz but Moevao was able to get rid of it to a wide open TE Howard Croom who broke a tackle and took it all the way in for a 65-yard touchdown reception to make it 45-10 OSU.
OSU QB Lyle Moevao gets rid of the ball to TE Howard Croom for a 65-yard touchdown.
The game was now clearly over and Oregon State's starters would rest for the remainder of the game. Stanford was able to put another scoring drive together as FB Owen Marecic scored on a four-yard touchdown scamper to make it 45-17 OSU. Even the 2nd team offense was able to get on the scoreboard in the remaining last minute as HB Jovan Stevenson scored a one-yard goal line touchdown as the Beavers got their offense going in a 52-17 beat-down over Stanford.
