I definitely don't want to get too excited over that win. Stanford is not much better than an FCS team. They were absolutely terrible. So I have a bye and I just realized my next game is at USC. So wish me luck. If you read my little or actually not so little history section, you know how badly the Beavers have fared in Los Angeles against the Trojans. Let's try and make it back-to-back. But first I've got some game of the week stuff to get to.

        Week 6

        #6 Florida Dominates #11 LSU

(top) Florida MLB Brandon Spikes forces a fumble in the end zone leading to a safety. (bottom left) Florida QB John Brantley fills in for hurt Tim Tebow and throws three touchdown passes. (bottom right) Florida HB Jeffery Demps with an electrifying 68-yard touchdown run.

Baton Rouge - On a wet night in the Bayou, Florida and LSU met. With both teams already with one loss on the season, this was an important game for each team to stay in the race in the very competive SEC. Defense dominated early on but the Gators were the first to strike when QB John Brantley, filling in for the injured Tim Tebow, connected with WR Carl Moore in the flat for a five-yard touchdown to put Florida ahead 7-0.

LSU would finally get on the scoreboard in the 2nd quarter with a 42-yard field goal to make it 7-3 Florida. But Brantley would respond by hooking up with WR Deonte Thompson over the middle where he dragged two defenders into the end zone for an 18-yard touchdown to put the Gators up 14-3. Later, LSU QB Jordan Jefferson threw a perfect high arching deep pass to WR Terrance Toliver but the ball went right through his hands in the end zone. As a result, the Tigers would have to attempt a 46-yarder which missed well wide right. On the ensuing possession for the Gators, HB Jeffery Demps got the ball on a toss to the left where he ducked under on defender, spun past another, ran through an arm tackle, flew downfield, housing a 68-yard touchdown run as the Gators were up big 21-3.

The Tigers would get a good kick return to set them up with excellent field position and QB Jordan Jefferson took advantage, finding WR Terrance Toliver over the middle for a 20-yard touchdown pass to make it 21-10 Florida. Then the LSU defense forced a three-and-out. However, the punt would pin the Tigers inside their own five-yard line. On the very next play, Gator MLB Brandon Spikes broke through the line, causing Jefferson to lose the ball in the end zone. HB Charles Scott was able to recover the ball but the Gators tackled him in the end zone for a safety just before halftime to make it 23-10 Gators.

Though LSU was getting completely man-handled, the Tigers were still in the game. Unfortunately on the opening kickoff of the 3rd quarter, LSU fumbled the ball to the Gators. Fortunately for the Tigers, their defense was able to hold the Gators to just a 24-yard field goal to make it 26-10. LSU started to find something on offense by getting HB Charles Scott going in the ground game but the Tiger drive would stall in the red zone as they were forced to kick a 25-yarder to make it 26-13 Florida.

But in the 4th quarter, the Gators would put this one in the books when Brantley connected with WR Riley Cooper from two yards out for Brantley's third touchdown pass of the game. The Gators proved they are the real deal with a dominant 33-13 victory over LSU without starting QB Tim Tebow.

          Game of the Week

          #1 Texas (5-0) vs #6 Oklahoma (4-1)

Chris: We are here in Dallas for one of the greatest rivalries in college football, the Red River Rivalry. (crowd cheers) This is easily one of the most anticipated games of the season and today could very well decide who wins the Big 12 South and possibly who will have a chance at a national title. So far, the Longhorns are the last team standing as everybody else has fallen like flies in this crazy season. Last week was no different as #2 Ohio State fell to undefeated Wisconsin and #3 Oklahoma State fell to Texas A&M. In addition, South Carolina stayed unbeaten by beating the surprising Kentucky Wildcats. And last week, Florida proved that they are still tough to beat without Tebow as they just dominated LSU. All eyes will be on the Red River Rivalry today but this will be a great weekend of college football so we will get to the other games today when we get back...

          Games of the Week

          #24 Iowa (5-1) at #13 Wisconsin (6-0)
          Kirk: Iowa Lee: Wisc

          #8 South Carolina (6-0) at #23 Alabama (3-3)
          Kirk: USC Lee: Bama

          #3 Virginia Tech (5-1) at #15 Georgia Tech (5-1)
          Kirk: VT Lee: VT

          #7 USC (4-1) at #21 Notre Dame (5-0)
          Kirk: ND Lee: USC

Chris: Yeah. Notre Dame has a real chance with Corp out for the season. They're really banged up. Okay. So what about the little rivalry game we have here in the Cotton Bowl today. (crowd wakes up after a lack of interest between USC and Notre Dame talk) We will see two of the top QBs in the nation on display today. With last year's Heisman winner Sam Bradford and this year's current Heisman frontrunner, Colt McCoy who passed up another McCoy, Anthony McCoy who is out west catching touchdowns for the Trojans. (camera zooms in on a "Colt for Heisman" sign) Unfortunately for Bradford, one of his favorite targets may not be able to play today. Erin Andrews has more on that. Erin...

Erin: Thanks Chris. It is still uncertain whether OU TE Jermaine Gresham will be able to play today because of that PCL sprain. He is listed as questionable and the mood down here is that he likely will not be able to play today. Gresham is currently rated the top TE in the country according to the scouts and will certainly be a top draft pick. Gresham surely will be missed today by the Sooners.

Chris: Thank you Erin. Well, that certainly is a big loss for the Sooners so how will this one play out today?

Kirk: I think that is a huge loss for Sam Bradford. The Longhorns are not just great on offense but they have a tough defense this year and Bradford will want to have a TE he can rely on. But today's difference maker will be Colt McCoy. He already has scored 20 total touchdowns and with guys like DE Sergio Kindle and FS Earl Thomas leading the Longhorns' defense, I fail to see how the Sooners can win today. (loud mixed reaction of the crowd)

Lee: Kirk, I will tell you how the Sooners win today. DeMarco Murray, that's how. Murray is the most explosive player on the field today. He is always a home run threat. That' right sweetheart. Zip, zip, and he's gone. Look out for this kid. He's gonna have a big, big game today. Plus Bradford has a terrific young sophomore WR by the name of Ryan Broyles who has looked great. Bradford has 13 touchdown passes and only three interceptions. He regains the Heisman lead today with a great game. The kid just doesn't make mistakes. So that's why I'm picking...(Lee puts on a schooner hat and fires an air cannon in the air) BOOMER SOONER!!!

              Week 7

              #1 Texas (5-0) vs #6 Oklahoma (4-1)

Longhorns Stay Unbeaten With Win Over Rival Sooners

(top) Texas QB Colt McCoy throws for 321 yards and two touchdowns with only one interception. (bottom left) Texas TE DJ Grants with two touchdown receptions. (bottom right) OU HB DeMarco Murray scores two touchdowns, including a 69-yard touchdown recption.

Dallas, TX - Another game of the week and another rainy evening. It was almost a shame to see Mother Nature affect such a meaningful game and two juggernaut offenses. However, it did not seem to affect leading Heisman frontrunner, Texas QB Colt McCoy as the Longhorns opened with a well executed drive finished off with a McCoy to TE DJ Grant five-yard touchdown to put the Longhorns on the board first to go ahead 7-0.

But the Sooners countered right back with an impressive drive that saw HB Demarco Murrary score a one-yard touchdown at the goal line to tie it up 7-7. It looked like the shootout most thought was going to happen was on its way, but then both teams' defenses tightened up.

In the 2nd quarter, Texas moved the ball into the red zone but had to settle for a 21-yard chip shot to regain the lead for the Longhorns 10-7. With under two minutes in the half, OU QB Sam Bradford was picked off by Longhorn CB Deon Beasly to give Texas the ball at the OU 45-yard line. McCoy led his team into the red zone but again the Longhorns had to settle for a 25-yard field goal to make it only 13-7 Texas at halftime.

To open the 3rd quarter, the Sooners continued to stuggle as they would go three-and-out. However, McCoy and the Longhorns put another nice drive together. McCoy would float a perfectly thrown ball over the defender's hands and into the hands of TE DJ Grant who made a nice catch in traffic in the back of the end zone for a six-yard touchdown reception to put the Longhorns up 20-7.

On the ensuing possession the Sooners would finally strike back as Bradford hooked up with HB Demarco Murray on a screen where the playmaking tailback slipped a tackle and took it to the house for a 69-yard touchdown reception, cutting the Longhorn lead to only 20-14.

              [ame=http://s515.photobucket.com/albums/t354/Emac78/?action=view&current=Tex-OUMurray69-ydtdrec.flv][/ame]

Then to make matters worse for Texas, on the ensuing possession McCoy slipped and threw the ball that was intercepted by OU SS Quincy Carter. Suddenly, the Sooners were in position to possibly take the lead. However, OU HB Chris Brown came in for a tired Murray and was plastered by Texas FS Earl Thomas, losing a ball to the grass which the Longhorns recovered. Not long after, McCoy connected deep with WR Malcolm Williams for a 47-yard gain despite some tight coverage.

Now the Longhorns were inside the OU 10-yard line, but again Texas would have to settle for a field goal when WR Brandon Collins could not make the catch in traffic inside the end zone. So the Longhorns scored on a 22-yard field goal to increase their lead to 23-14.

In the 4th quarter, the Sooners got something going on offense again. But the drive would stall, leading to only a 34-yard field goal to make it 23-17 Texas. The Longhorns would be stopped on their next possession but senior kicker Hunter Lawrence was able to boot through a 52-yard field goal to make it 26-17 Texas with 4:32 remaining. Oklahoma's fate was pretty much decided when on the ensuing possession, the Sooners went three-and-out, punting the ball away with 3:49 left to go in the game. Fortunately, the punt pinned Texas at their own five-yard line. The Sooners would quickly get the ball back but after another three-and-out with only 1:57 left to go, the game was over. The Longhorns stay undefeated and are in the driver's seat to win the Big 12 South and a trip to the BCS championship.

USC has some major injury trouble and it is not looking good for them. The Ducks have a very good chance to end the Trojans' run of winning the Pac-10. It is still early, but the Civil War could decide the conference. USC is already without Corp and Mustain for the season so they have freshman QB Barkley starting now. Also, CJ Gable and Stafon Johnson are out for a few weeks too but they still do have Joe McKnight.

Notre Dame is shooting up the polls about as quickly as I've ever seen. The Irish are on fire.

Penn State is looking good too if it wasn't for that loss to Iowa. With Royster leading the charge the Nittany Lions are definitely still in the picture.

The Beavers received their second commitment from four-star CB Mike Cook from Huntington Beach, California. Cook is rated the 8th best CB prospect in the nation. He is just the kind of corner Oregon State looks for as he excels in man coverage. Cook has outstanding agility and has a good vertical. Plus he is 6'2" so his height and his athleticism should allow him to make plenty of plays on the ball.

                                Game of the Week

                                #8 Oklahoma (4-2) at Kansas (5-1)

Chris: Welcome to Lawrence, Kansas and no, it is not basketball season. The gameday crew is here for another Big 12 football game. The Jayhawks have been one of the surprise teams this year as they have a real shot at winning the Big 12 North and playing for the Big 12 championship. Oklahoma on the other hand has not played up to expectations with a loss to Miami and then losing to rival Texas in the Red River Rivalry. The Sooners need a win today to even stay in the Big 12 South race as the Longhorns are running away with it.

We had another week of upsets last weekend. Probably none bigger than the Buckeyes falling to Purdue. The #2 'Huskers lost a close one to the Red Raiders of Texas Tech, allowing these Jayhawks to take over the top spot in the Big 12 North. (crowd cheers) And then of course, the Irish surprised a lot of people and beat the Trojans who are having one of their worst seasons under Pete Carroll. Now the Trojans will face an Oregon State team that seems to have found their way. That should be a great game tonight at the Coliseum.

Alright, so we understand Erin Andrews has an injury report on OU TE Jermaine Gresham. Erin...

Erin: Well, the news does not sound good for Gresham as he is still listed as questionable today with the PCL sprain. Judging from the sound of it, it would surprise me if he plays today. Back to you guys...

Chris: Thanks Erin. Well no doubt that Sam Bradford is missing his best receiver but how badly will it affect the Sooners today?

Kirk: I really don't think it will have much of an impact at all today. The Sooners are just so much better on both sides of the ball. I think if KU QB Todd Reesing can play well today then he keeps the game close but I think the Sooners roll today with a big victory. (crowd boos)

Lee: Kirk, you're right. There's no doubt about it that the Sooners are faster, bigger, and more talented at every position but this Oklahoma team has not played up to what they are capable of doing. They really disappointed me last week against Texas. But Todd Reesing has to play a perfect game and the Jayhawks need to get a few turnovers so I'm going with...(Lee pull out the schooner hat as the crowd boos but then looks at it) Wait a minute...I didn't want this silly thing. (Lee throws down the schooner hat and puts on the Jayhawk headgear as the crowd roars with approval) ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK! GO KANSAS!
