Thanks. Quizz did play well. I just hope he can stay healthy. He's starting to get banged up a bit.

Erin Andrews: Great win today coach. The Giant Killers strike again. And this time against your rival. How do you guys get up for these top three opponents? This is the fourth year in a row that the Beavers have beaten a top three team. What does this win mean to you?

Mike Riley: It's always big for us to win the Civil War especially here in this tough environment. I really don't know why or how we seem to play so well against top 3 teams. Oregon is a tremendously talented team and for us to play the way we did is just really great.

Erin: You lost Lyle Moevao pretty early in the game and in came Sean Canfield. He filled in nicely, throwing three TDs in these weather conditions was pretty impressive. First, what is the status on Moevao?

Mike: It looks like Lyle has a bruised shoulder. We're not really sure how long he'll be out so he will probably be day-to-day.

Erin: Does that mean that Canfield may have taken over the job? He looked pretty solid today.

Mike: Well, he did play well. But it is too early for me to make that decision just yet.

Erin: Unfortunately, Quizz also left the game. Can you tell me what his status is?

Mike: Yeah. It looks like he also banged up his shoulder but I'm pretty certain he should be ready to go for the bowl game.

Erin: Ryan McCants made some nice runs as his replacement.

Mike: Yeah. He sure did Erin. I was really happy to see him out there working hard for every yard. He's kind of the thunder to Quizz's lightning so to speak. He really played well when we needed him.

Erin: I think the real story was your defense. They did give up some big plays but your defense pretty much shut down Blount after that big run at the beginning.

Mike: I was a bit concerned after that run by Blount. It kind of felt like "here we go again" but I have to give the credit to my defensive coordinator Mark Banker. He came up with a great gameplan to shut down a really potent offense. And these kids executed that on the field today really, really well. I'm really proud of these guys today.

Erin: Good luck in the bowl game and go celebrate coach.

Mike: Thanks Erin. Always a pleasure.

No punching in the face by Blount?

Nice win though man, always tough going into Oregon (Played there for the past 2 seasons in my Purdue chise, gonna be the 3rd time this year).

              Game of the Week

              #19 LSU (9-3) vs #2 Florida (11-1)

Chris: Welcome to Atlanta where in the Georgia Dome, the SEC championship will be played out. It will be a rematch between Florida and LSU. The Gators got the best of the Tigers down in Baton Rouge as they really dominated that game. But the Gators will have to make it back-to-back wins against the Bayou Bengals if they are going to make it to the national championship against Notre Dame.

Well, no surprise the final week of the season ended with a big upset as Oregon State was able to defeat their rival Oregon in the Civil War. So Oregon is out of the race but is still heading to the Rose Bowl. Not a bad consolation prize. So it will be Joe Paterno and the Nittany Lions who will be the biggest LSU fans today. Because a win by LSU would likely jump Penn State ahead of Florida and send the Nittany Lions to the national title game against Notre Dame.

So it is only the SEC championship that has any significance on the national picture but we will get to the other intriguing conference championship games this weekend.

              Conference Championships

              ACC
              #16 Maryland (10-2) vs #5 Virginia Tech (10-2)
              Kirk: UMD Lee: VT

              Big 12
              Kansas (8-4) vs #20 Texas (9-3)
              Kirk: Tex Lee: Tex

Chris: The Longhorns have been decimated with injuries but they are getting a lot of their key guys back and they will have Colt McCoy today so Texas should roll. Alright. Time to make your picks for SEC.

Kirk: There is no question that LSU has the horses to compete on offense. But I fail to see how LSU will stop Florida from scoring as the Gators ranked #1 in points-per-game. The real matchup though is the fact that LSU has a freshman QB in Russell Shepard who will be going up against the best defense in the nation led by MLB Brandon Spikes, DE Carlos Dunlap, and S Major Wright. Shepard has played sensational and is going to be special but he will struggle today. Gators win decisively.

Lee: Don't count out the freshman Shepard. He really has been terrific. The kid threw 12 TDs and only one interception. As a result, LSU is #2 in turnover differential with a +16. That's not too bad with a freshman leading the offense. If they're going to have any chance today, that trend will have to continue, but going up against such an imposing defense is going to be tough. This game will be closer than the experts think but...*Lee puts on the Gator headgear and does the Gator chomp* Go Gators!

LOL. Since you've played the Ducks a few times, do you ever seem to notice that Oregon hardly ever runs the ball in the game? In real life their spread offense is a run first offense. When the Ducks are good, they are one of the top rushing teams in the nation. But when ever I play them, their tailback rarely ever has above ten carries. Though when I played them, Masoli did end their possessions prematurely with four interceptions and aside from the big run, Blount was totally shut down so I guess they just gave up.

Very rarely. It seems like they play more West Coast then there spread run. They have a new quarterback and halfback this season, so I couldn't go back and tell you stats from a few seasons ago, but from what I remember they rarely ran. I play them week 2 in my dynasty so I'll get back at you with this.

                    Championship Weekend

                    #19 LSU (9-3) vs #2 Florida (11-1)

                    Gators Crush Tigers in Rematch

(top) Gator QB John Brantley, in for Tim Tebow, scores on a 9-yard run up the middle. (bottom left) Brantley connects with WR Riley Cooper on a 65-yard TD. (bottom right) Cooper stiff arms LSU FS McCray and takes it 56 yards to the house.

Atlanta, GA - It looked like it would not end well for the Gators when their all-world QB Tim Tebow left the game with a broken thumb. So it would be up to John Brantley to lead Florida to an SEC championship. With Tebow out, the Gators struggled to find any rhythm offensively. The Tigers would also get a bad break when HB Charles Scott left the game with a bruised elbow, but LSU would go up 7-3 in the 2nd quarter when WR Mitchell scored on a 16-yard jet sweep. But Brantley would hit WR Riley Cooper on a short out route, and Cooper was able to break a tackle and gain 46 yards. That would set up a 9-yard TD run up the middle for Brantley to put the Gators on top 10-7. Brantley would connect with Cooper again on a deep corner route at the sideline. Cooper caught the ball over his shoulders in stride and took it in for a 65-yard TD to put Florida up 17-7 at halftime.

LSU's offense could not accomplish anything on offense. The lone bright spot was the running game. HB Keiland Williams was putting together a great game but freshman QB Russell Shepard struggled. Though the Gator defense did not sack Shepard once, they were pressuring the true freshman to throw before he wanted to. Brantley would hook up with Cooper again in the 4th quarter on a short pass over the middle where Cooper was able to stiff arm LSU FS McCray to the ground and take it 56 yards to the house as the Gators would crush the Tigers 27-7. The win should almost definitely send the Gators to Pasadena to play the Irish for the BCS national championship.

                                #25 USF (8-4) vs #10 Oregon State (9-3)

Corvallis, OR - The #10 Oregon State Beavers will be heading back to the Brut Sun Bowl for the 2nd year in a row to play #25 South Florida. Oregon State will look to put up a better offensive showing than the pitiful three points they scored last year. Though the Beavers would be happy with another shutout as OSU defeated Pitt in last year's Sun Bowl 3-0. But that was without both of the Rodgers brothers so OSU is likely to score points with both healthy. It is still yet to be determined if QB Lyle Moevao will be able to play with the bruised shoulder he sustained at the Civil War. So Mike Riley might have to go with the other senior QB, lefty Sean Canfield who led the Beavers to a big win in the Civil War.

Beaver fans pretty much knew that OSU was going to the Sun Bowl when Cal beat Washingon 33-6. With both OSU and Cal having the same conference record, the tie breaker went to the winner of the head-to-head game which the Golden Bears won. So Cal will be heading to the Holiday Bowl.

Now the Beavers will prepare for what Mike Riley is calling a tough, physical football team. The Bulls are led by senior QB Matt Grothe who has been inconsistent despite his experience. Grothe has thrown 19 TDs but has 17 interceptions. It has been HB Mike Ford who has been the bell cow of this offense as he ran for 1247 yards and scored eight TDs on the ground for USF despite a young offensive line. The team also possesses speed on the edges so they can stretch the field. Defensively, the team has a possible 1st or 2nd round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft in DE George Selvie. Though he has had a rather lackluster year, only getting two sacks on the year. The Beavers will have to be ready and adjust their protections to account for Selvie if they want to have any hope of passing the ball down field. South Florida was unable to beat any of the top Big East teams as they lost to Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, and Rutgers. However, the Bulls were able to defeat Miami and Florida State so this is a dangerous team that the Beavers will need to prepare for.
