Good job by the backup OSU back. What's up with SC? Who got injured? And great job with the big win. . . even against an FCS team.

Game of the Week
#25 Georgia Tech (0-0) @ #9 Virginia Tech (2-0)
Chris: We're back from Blacksburg today for the duel in the ACC. The Hokies are the defending ACC champions and are off to a hot start. Virginia Tech comes in with the #1 rushing offense in the nation even though we are only a few weeks into the young season. This will be the first game of the season for the Yellow Jackets. There is a lot of excitement in Atlanta for Georgia Tech this year with that RB duo of Roddy Jones and Jonathan Dwyer. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that we should see a lot of rushing yards today. So let's get right to it guys.
Kirk: I don't think either team will have any trouble running the ball today. Both teams have terrific running backs. VT HB Ryan Williams is off to a great start and I'm sure Jones and Dwyer will get their yards. But I think the defensive edge goes to the Hokies. VT DT John Graves will give the Yellow Jackets some trouble with his penetration but I really think the difference today will be at QB. I look for VT QB Tyrod Taylor to be the diefference maker today to lead the Hokies to a close win. *crowd cheers*
Lee: Georgia Tech is really talented and I think they will surprise a lot of teams. The Hokies are going to struggle trying to stop Jones and Dwyer but in the end the Yellow Jackets are a one-trick pony. And that one trick is not good enough to beat a team like the Hokies especially at home against a Bud Foster defense. *Lee puts on the headgear* Go Hokies! *crowd goes wild*

Louisville (1-1) @ #8 Oregon State (2-0)
Corvallis, OR - The last time these two teams met in 2005, the then #11 Cardinals led by Bobby Petrino put a 63-27 shellacking on the Beavers in Louisville. Brian Brohm lit up the OSU secondary for 368 yards and five touchdowns. While DE Elvis Dumerville sacked Matt Moore three times. It was a nightmare for Oregon State on national television. This time #8 Oregon State was the favorite at home. A win over Boise State had ignited Beaver fever in Corvallis as Reser Stadium was sold out and ready to go. This would be the first game of the season without Jacquizz Rodgers.
Louisville faced a fairly noisy crowd to start the game but the Cardinals were able to get a 1st down on 3rd down again and again as the OSU defense could not get off the field. The long drive moved into the red zone but on the 16th play, QB Adam Froman threw a ball up for grabs into the end zone that was picked off by OSU SS Lance Mitchell to prevent Louisville from scoring on a 16-play possession.
OSU SS Lance Mitchell with an interception in the end zone.
Oregon State was unable to give their defense a rest as they went three-and-out on their first possession of the game, including QB Ryan Katz being sacked on the first offensive play for the Beavers. However, after a deflating turnover on the Cardinals' opening possession, Louisville would also go three-and-out. On the ensuing possession, Oregon State went back to its bread and butter. Tailback Ryan McCants started pounding the rock at Louisville. Even with eight men in the box, the Cardinals could not prevent McCants from moving the pile. But the OSU drive would stall in Louisville territory where Justin Kahut was able to kick a 40-yard field goal to put Oregon State on the scoreboard and ahead 3-0 to start the 2nd quarter.
Louisville again struggled on offense, going three-and out. After a poor defensive showing for OSU to open the game, the defense was now flying to the ball and playing more aggressive. The Beavs went back to the run game with McCants which opened up playaction. Katz would finish off the methodical drive with a frozen rope to WR James Rodgers in the back of the end zone for a 17-yard touchdown. Kahut would miss the extra point wide right but OSU was still up 9-0.
OSU QB Ryan Katz throws a frozen rope to WR James Rodgers for a 17-yard TD.
Louisville QB Adam Froman got something going toward the end of the half but the Cardinals would be held in OSU territory when OSU DT Mitchell Hunt got his 2nd sack of the game, forcing Louisville to punt. With :50 left and all of their timeouts remaing on their own side of the field, the Beavers attempted a two-minute drill to maybe get another score. But the gamble did not pay off as Katz threw a deep pass late to James Rodgers that was picked off by UL CB Karldell Dunning. The turnover set up a 33-yard field goal attempt for Louisville but it was doinked off the upright to preserve the shutout going into halftime.
UL CB Karldell Dunning picks off Katz.
As the 2nd half opened, before many of the fans had even taken their seat from the break, James Rodgers took the opening kick off and found a little crease. Rodgers hit the opening and raced down the field where it became a footrace that the speedster would win, taking it 90 yards to the house to open the 2nd half. OSU would attempt a 2-point conversion but McCants was stuffed. However, the Beavers took a 15-0 lead.
OSU James Rodgers takes the opening kickoff of the 2nd half 90 yards to the house.
Louisville after having an unproductive 1st half and needing to counter with something on offense would go three-and-out. Oregon State was starting really find its groove on offense with a balanced possession as McCants' physicall rushing was opening up the passing game for Katz. Where inside the red zone, the redshirt sophomore hit WR Reggie Dunn on a long post in the end zone for an 18-yard touchdown to put OSU up 22-0.
OSU QB Ryan Katz hits WR Reggie Dunn in the end zone for an 18-yard TD.
OSU continued to play very well team defense as Louisville again was forced to punt. Louisville would force an OSU three-and-out. Heading into the 4th quarter, the Cardinals desperately needed to score if they wanted to make it a game.
Finally, Louisville engineered a successful drive and QB Adam Froman finished it off with a strike to the back of the end zone to freshman WR Rashad Newton for a 19-yard touchdown. The 2-point attempt would fail but Louisville was finally on the board, down 22-6.

But just when Louisville thought they might have a chance, the Beavers responded with long, physical drive with a heavy dose of Ryan McCants who would go over 100 yards on the ground on the drive. The success on the ground allowed Ryan Katz to find TE Brady Camp on a playaction in the flat. Camp was all alone and the big TE was able to run just fast enough to be tackled just as he barely crossed the goal line on a 20-yard touchdown to put OSU up 29-6.
OSU QB Ryan Katz finds TE Brady Camp for his 3rd TD pass of the day.
Louisville down with limited time went to the two-minute drill and flew down the field with ease. Before anybody knew it, the Cardinals were in the red zone where QB Adam Froman threw a ball in the end zone that should have been intercepted by OSU CB James Dockery, but the ball bounced off his hands and into the hands of UL TE Pete Nochta for a 1-yard touchdown. The Cardinals again tried for two but failed so they were down 29-12.
With little time left, Louisville attempted an onside kick but came up empty as OSU recovered and McCants would run the clock out as the Beavers win in convincing fashion.

Week 3
#25 Georgia Tech (0-0) @ #9 Virginia Tech
(top) VT OLB Jake Johnson, named the NCAA Defensive Player of the Week, forces a fumble on GT QB Josh Nesbitt. (bottom left) VT QB Tyrod Taylor passed for 320 yards and two TDs. (bottom right) GT FB Jonathan Dwyer scores on a 45-yard TD scamper
Blacksburg, VA - With two juggernaut running games on show, Georgia Tech surprised everybody by letting QB Josh Nesbitt throw the ball. It turned out to not be such a good idea as he was intercepted by VT OLB Jake Johnson. But the Hokies could not take advantage as they were held on four downs in Yellow Jacket terrtory. Later in the quarter, VT QB Tyrod Taylor was picked off by GT MLB Brad Jefferson who made a tremendous one-handed catch. But the Yellow Jackets would be stopped in the red zone, scoring only a 24-yard field goal to take a 3-0 lead. The lead did not last long as Taylor found HB Ryan Williams all alone deep downfield for a huge 66 yard gain. That would set up a 3-yard TD pass to TE William Carey to put the Hokies on top 7-3.
Georgia Tech was able to move the ball between the 20s but stalled in the red zone. And settled for a 34-yard field goal to make it 7-6 VT. The Hokies responded with a methodical drive. It would be finished off with Williams making a couple GT defenders miss on an offtackle run of eight yards into the end zone to put the Hokies ahead 14-6. But the Yellow Jackets would get right back in the game when VT TE Andre Smith dropped a pass that was intercepted by GT CB Mario Butler and returned for a pick-six. In addition, HB Roddy Jones was able to score on the 2-point conversion to tie the game 14-14. Late in the half, Nesbitt would get the Yellow Jackets in position for a 51-yard field goal which was booted between the uprights to regain the lead for Georgia Tech 17-14 going into halftime.
The Hokies started off the 2nd half with a bang as Taylor threw a deep pass to HB Ryan Williams. Inexplicably, the ball went right through the hands of GT FS Cooper Taylor and Williams scored on a 71-yard TD reception to regain the 21-17 lead for the Hokies. Then disaster struck for Georgia Tech when Josh Nesbitt pitched the ball late on an option and it was intercepted by VT SS Davon Morgan and returned for a touchdown similar to the play made in the national championship by Notre Dame. Suddenly, Virginia Tech was up 28-17. Though Georiga Tech went right back to the triple option and this time Nesbitt pitched the ball at the perfect time to RB Jonathan Dwyer who housed a 45-yard TD scamper to make it 28-24.
Late in the 3rd quarter, Ryan Williams would leave the game with a dislocated thumb and not return. But HB Josh Ogelsby came in an instantly impacted the game with a 40-yard run that would set up a 32-yard field goal to open the 4th quarter. 31-24 VT. Georgia Tech's triple option gave the Hokies fits as the Yellow Jackets methodically moved into the red zone. It looked like they were about to tie the game but Nesbitt was drilled by VT OLB Jake Johnson, forcing the ball loose. The Hokies returned the fumble into Yellow Jacket territory. They Yellow Jackets would stop the Hokies and get the ball at their own 33-yard line with 2:17 left in the game. But Nesbitt would be intercepted by VT SS Davon Morgan. Yet the Yellow Jackets were given one more chance but they would have to go from their own 5-yard line with only :48 left to go with no timeouts remaining. The task proved too daunting and a final pass to the end zone from midfield was knocked down to preserve the win for the Hokies.

Yeah but now you have to get by the Beavs who are coming off of a bye. The Trojans just finished a tough road game and have to fly all the way back home. And maybe they might be looking ahead to the Oregon game the next week. I doubt it especially since OSU has beaten them two of the last three years. I think it will be closer than the experts think though. However, Oregon State has not won in the Coliseum since 1960 so history is not on their side.
He is fine as long as he doesn't have to deal with a hostile crowd. He was kind of shaky to start that Boise State game. But he has surpassed anybody's expectations so far. Hope he keeps it up.Comment

Game of the Week
#3 Oklahoma (1-0) @ #15 Cincinnati (2-1)
Chris: Welcome to Cincinnati for what is probably this school's biggest non-conference game in its history. The Bearcats really have a chance to make a statement to the rest of the nation if they could get a win against a perennial powerhouse like Oklahoma. As big as this game is, it looked like it would be bigger at the start of the season, but Cincinnati lost to Fresno State to drop the Bearcats out of the top ten. So how will the new head coach, Jeff Quinn deal with the adversity? Can Cincinnati continue to win without Brian Kelly? And can Bob Stoops get back to winning big games? Well, the headgear is here so that means it is time to make your selections guys.
Kirk: I'm sorry to say but I really don't think this one will be close at all. Both teams have dynamic offenses but the Sooners have in my mind one of the top defenses in the nation. Oklahoma might have the best defensive line led by DT Gerald McCoy (99). I think UC redshirt junior QB Chaz Anderson is going to be in for a long game. I just don't think Anderson is going to have enough time to find his great receivers. He's already struggled with only five touchdowns and four interceptions. Oklahoma wins big. *crowd boos*
Lee: Kirk. I'm right there with you. Oklahoma is going to win this game in the trenches. That's right. The big hogmollies on both sides of the ball win this game for the Sooners. The only way Cincinnati can win today is if they force a bunch of turnovers and get really, really lucky. That's not gonna happen sweetheart. Not at all. *Lee puts on the schooner hat and fires an air gun into the air as the crowd boos* BOOMER SOONER! GO OKLAHOMA!

UCLA (0-3) @ #6 Oregon State (3-0)
Corvallis, OR - Every team that UCLA has played so far this season is currently still undefeated, including the #2 Texas Longhorns who whipped the Bruins 41-10 in Austin last week. So Rick Neuheisel's Bruins are very hungry for a win. But it looked like a daunting task for UCLA to get its first win at Reser Stadium against the #6 Oregon State Beavers. UCLA would be greeted with not only the hostile crowd but a rainstorm that brought with it heavy showers. Just a typical day in the northwest.
UCLA and QB Nick Crissman seemed to be affected by the hostile environment as they went a quick three-and-out. Oregon State had limited success early on but were stalled at the UCLA 45-yard line. But on 4th-and-one, Mike Riley decided to go for it and QB Ryan Katz snuck across for an easy 1st down to keep the opening possession alive. However, the Bruins would hold tight in the red zone with a momentum turning goal line stand, forcing the Beavers to settle for a 19-yard chipshot to go up 3-0.
Despite the goal line stop, UCLA quickly gave up whatever momentum they had gained when QB Nick Crissman was picked off by OSU OLB Dwight Roberson.

Just like most good teams do, the Beavers took advantage of the turnover when HB Ryan McCants scored on an outside run of six yards to suddenly give OSU a 10-0 lead.
OSU HB Ryan McCants scores on a 6-yard run to the outside.
As the 2nd quarter opened, the Bruins looked like they had finally figured out something offensively but the drive would stall at midfield. The Bruins would be forced to punt. The Beavers could not do much better as they were also symied on offense. UCLA would get a bit of a running game going on their next possession, but would be stalled at the OSU 41-yard line. Rick Neuheisel decided to go for it and it paid off when HB Jonathan Franklin easily got it up the middle to keep the drive alive. As a result, the Bruins would finish off a long, 14-play drive with HB Milton Knox scoring on a 4-yard TD scamper to put UCLA on the board, down 10-7.
UCLA HB Milton Knox scores on a 4-yard TD scamper.
Oregon State responded with Ryan Katz leading a pretty two-minute drill and hitting WR Reggied Dunn over the middle in the red zone. Dunn scurried toward the end zone but was tackled right at the goal line. Reser Stadium, Dunn, and the players waited for the call. Touchdown. On the replay it sure looked like Dunn was tackled short of the goal line, but the Beavers quickly kicked the extra point to prevent a reversal so officially it was a 13-yard TD reception for Reggie Dunn to put Oregon State ahead 17-7. Neuheisel was livid at the officials for not at least reviewing it but did not want to burn a timeout to review it.
OSU WR Reggie Dunn catches what would become a controversial 13-yard TD reception.
UCLA QB Nick Crissman would counter with an impressive two-minute drill of his own that would allow the Bruins to tack on a 43-yard field goal as the clock ticked triple-zero to make it 17-10 OSU at halftime.
The Beavers would not continue where they had left off as QB Ryan Katz just missed WR Darrell Catchings on a deep pass in the corner of the end zone that just was out of reach. Then Katz missed a wide open Jams Rodgers over on a crossing route that almost certainly he could have taken to the house. As a result, OSU would find themselves with another 4th-and-short in UCLA territory. Again, Mike Riley decided to take the risk rather than attempting a long field goal. Katz found TE Brady Camp open over the middle but the ball was knocked down at the line as the Bruins celebrated another big stop.
Beaver fans came to life, knowing the importance of the situation but the Bruins ignored noise and marched right down the field with ease. But UCLA would be held at the 3-yard line with a 4th-and-one facing them. Neuheisel decided to go for it and forego an easy field goal. The risk paid off when HB Milton Knox was able to just get just enough up the gut. Then HB Jonathan Franklin walked it for an easy 2-yard TD to cap off an impressive 12-play drive to tie the game 17-17.
UCLA HB Jonathan Franklin walks in for a 2-yard TD.
Despite being at home, all of the momentum was now with UCLA and the Beavers suddenly were in a funk offensively as they had an ugly three-and-out. UCLA was now in a position to take the lead but OSU CB James Dockery came up with a fantastic interception to put OSU back into the driver seat.
OSU CB James Dockery makes a fantastic interception.
But Oregon State was unable to capitalize on the opportunity as they had an even uglier three-and-out that saw them forced to punt with a 4th-and-20. Heading into the 4th quarter, the Bruins were putting together another methodical drive. OSU would finally hold but UCLA was in position to attempt a 41-yard field goal which was booted right down the pipe to put UCLA on top 20-17.
UCLA is able to take the lead with a 41-yard field goal.
On the ensuing kickoff, James Rodgers was able to spin out of trouble and found nothing but green in front of him as Reser roared. It looked like he was going to house it but out of nowhere UCLA sophomore SS Lester White was able to save a touchdown by taking down Rodgers at the 2-yard line. But on the next play, HB Ryan McCants struck paydirt with a 2-yard TD run to regain the lead for Oregon State just like that. 24-20.
OSU James Rodgers comes up just short on a 92-yard kick return, but it sets up a 2-yard TD run for HB Ryan McCants.
The kick return completely changed the game around. UCLA struggled and was now forced to punt with only 3:54 remaining in the game. On the ensuing possession for the Beavers, McCants got a toss to the right, ran right through junior SS Rashad Day, and took it 66 yards to the house to make it 31-20 OSU with 2:24 left to go.
OSU HB Ryan McCants with a huge 66-yard TD run.
Any bid for an upset came to an end when Crissman threw his third interception as OSU SS Cameron Collins came up with the pick to put this one away for Oregon State.
