Flynn Helping Minnesota Forget About Rubio

After starting off the season coming off the bench, Jonny Flynn now finds himself at the helm of this young Timberwolves team.

Now that he’s got the starting PG job, Flynn has as good a shot at anybody at winning Rookie of the Year. Similar to Derrick Rose in Chicago last year, Flynn will get a ton of playing time.

Flynn's performance over the summer was good enough for him to be named named the top rookie performer at the NBA Summer League and his play has carried over into the regular season.

With the month of November drawing to an end, Flynn's 13 points, 8 assists and 2 steals per game have his name high on the list in the running for this month's NBA Rookie of the Month award.

Flynn says it feels good to know his name is being thrown around in such high regard.

“It means I’m getting acknowledged for the way I'm playing out here,” he told reporters at the Wolves practice facility. “It means a lot of people took are taking a liking to my game. I just don’t want to be complacent. I want to keep getting better and working on my game.”

What is most impressive about Flynn's game is his ability to draw contact and get to the line. Over the past 3 games, Flynn has averaged 9 attempts from the charity stripe, including the game-winning free throws in the final seconds of the Wolves 114-112 win over the Nuggets lastnight.

“Here in the NBA it’s like the lane is wide open,” Flynn said. “There’s more space out there. So there’s more opportunities to create off the bounce.”

"Jonny is fearless out there," Wolves Head Coach Kurt Rambis explained. "For him, getting to the free throw line is an art. He has the requisite athleticism and ballhandling skills. He's willing to sacrifice himself. He's also very cunning. He understands the goal is not only to beat the defense, but to persuade the referee to blow the whistle."

"If you're going to drive," says Flynn, "you can't go halfway. You better make up your mind and know what you want to do, because you can't change it once you start."

Aside from his impressive play, Flynn's smile, charisma and leadership is making it easy for Minnesota to forget about Ricky Rubio.

That game where you blew the lead in the 4th, I never feel safe with a lead in this game...especially with the below average teams we are using.....cpu just goes nuts

Clutch FTs by Flynn, nice bounce back win after the tough OT loss

On the offensive side of the ball, yeah. I usually don't have much problem putting points up on the board. The issue is defensively. Good, agressive 2 gaurds (Roy, etc.) tear me up in the backcourt while guys like Yao can score on my undersized frontcourt relatively easy.

Glad you liked the quote. Try to paint a picture for you guys.

Thanks, fixed it. Al is a stud down low. If he gets the ball in the paint, it's almost automatic. He has a little 12-15 foot jumper I've got him to knock down here and there as well.

Don't remember who Bosh was playing. KG scored 42 in that win though. And the Jazz are leading the Western Conference. Don't ask me how. lol.

Yeah it was a big win. Lucky win, considering I got fouled on a 3 point attempt in the final seconds of the game but hey, we'll take any wins we can get at this point.

You shouldn't. If Flynn holds it down for the next 2 seasons, I'm probably going to use Rubio's rights as leverage in a trade. :whisper:

Neither do I. But that's how it should be. It's funny. The games I actually have managed to win in this, for the most part, are won by a matter of 5 or less points. I've gotten trashed when I lose, but when I win, it's by the skin of my teeth, which is good. Realistic.

Thanks for following guys. You guys liked the article up there?

Nash Puts On Clinic On How To Pick Apart A Defense

                      Starting Lineups:
                      Jonny Flynn PG Steve Nash
                      Ramon Sessions SG Jason Richardson
                      Corey Brewer SF Grant Hill
                      Kevin Love PF Amare Stoudemire
                      Al Jefferson C Robin Lopez

                      (6-9) 104 vs. 112 (8-7)

Steve Nash disassembled the Wolves D, recording an incredible 20/20 performance tonight.

                      Player Of The Game:

                      Steve Nash

                      Quote Of The Game:
"We played a defensive minded game in the 1st half and I thought we did well. Somehow, in the 2nd half though, we got sucked into playing their game and trying to beat them with offense. Our offense isn't going to keep up with their's any day of the week. They have too many weapons. We managed to shut down Amare tonight but they got a huge spark off the bench that we didn't get and Steve...well, he picked apart our defense once again." - Al Jefferson

I swear, he connected with his guys on like 4 or 5 alley oops that game. :bizzaro: They started raining 3's on me in the 2nd half. That didn't help either.
