      Highlighting Position Battles

As fans flock to training camp to catch this years Seattle Seahawks team prep for their upcoming regular season, many like to watch the most pressure packed and heated position battle. Well fans, Matt Hasselbeck's job is safe, the WR spot is set, and Lofa Tatupu isn't going anywhere. But who will Hasselbeck be handing the ball off too? Well that is still leads to a muddled thought process for coach Jim Mora Jr. There is the incumbent veteran in Julius Jones who has never reached potential that could have possibly be there, but there is also a newcomer onto the scene in the name of Justin Forsett. The 2nd year man out of Cal is not even a household name in Seattle, so many may be checking their roster sheets when number 20 takes his reps in training camp. Look for these two to battle it out for the starting spot.

At the right defensive end position there are two young players who both bring a lot to the table. Lawrence Jackson and Daryll Tapp both look to wreak havoc in the backfield both by stuffing the run and hurrying the passer. Tapp has been an unsung hero in Seattle since stepping into Qwest stadium 3 seasons ago. In 3 seasons Tapp has amassed 118 tackles, 15 sacks, and 8 forced fumbles. Lawrence Jackson is only entering his 2nd season, and does not rival Tapp on the statistical front. What Jackson does bring to the table is a rare blend of strength and speed off the edge. It will be interesting to see these two battle it out come game time in the preseason.

      Editors Note
I will use these four preseason games to not only get a feel for the team but to also test out sliders and tune settings to that this can move flawlessly during the regular season. What i'm looking to do each pre-season game is play at least a few snaps with each player at his position so I can see how their strengths and weaknesses. I'm also going to be testing out a 34 defense at times, possibly switching over to that come 2010. I won't focus on layouts for the pre-season, just a feel for how the team performed and who looked good and vice versa. Hope you guys enjoy!

                From a Birds Eye View

Well, as a general manager there have definitely been better games to evaluate talent. Not much was working for us, but the first half was somewhat close. 21-10 going into halftime in what really should have been 14-10 if not for a Julius Jones fumble taken back to the house. Matt looked pretty strong behind center. Didn't make any crucial mistakes and made a few nice passes.

The running back battle definitely took a turn for the better if you are Justin Forsett. He only had 6 carries, but was able to make them count. Of course it was only the first game so we're just easing them in at this point. Louis Rankin surprised me totalling 66 yards, looks like we may have found a bruiser/3rd running back.

There wasn't too much pressure on the quarterback. Blitzes weren't working, the down lineman couldn't get off their blocks..it just wasn't pretty. We may have to implement a 34 style defense sooner rather than later in an attempt to get some pressure off the edge.

Also, we will not be looking to add to the team with any veteran free agents. There is no one of adequate value that could fit into our rotation of players.

Forsett Comes up Lame, Will Miss Remainder of Preseason

Tough news out of Seahawk camp, on the eve of their second preseason matchup against the Denver Broncos the team has learned Justin Forsett will not be on the active roster. He is out for the remainder of the preseason with a partial groin tear, an injury which occurred in practice yesterday. The 'Hawks will have Justin Griffith as their 3rd HB, and may have to pick up someone out of the free agent market.

                          Seahawks Sign Peerman

With Justin Forsett going down with a groin injury, the Seahawks were left bare at the halfback position. There were two options; go with the veteran who could potentially start in Edgerrin James, or take the youth in a plethora of running backs available. In the end, Mark Chiarelli chose youth as he signed Cedric Peerman to compete for a job at HB. Peerman was drafted in the 6th round by the Baltimore Ravens out of Virginia, but was waived two days ago.

Peerman rushed for over 1700 yards and 15 touchdowns in his four year stay at Virginia, evolving into a pass catching threat in the backfield in his final year. Cedric caught 44 passes for 193 yards in his senior season. He adds value as a kick returner as well as someone who can help out in a variety of different ways.

In other roster related news, the Peerman signing has brought the roster to a full 55 man limit. The team will have to cut down to at least 53 after the third preseason game. The final roster maximum is 50.

yeah Forsett going down pretty much locks up Julius Jones to at least start the season as the starter. Hopefully this isn't a nagging injury.
