Seahawk Offense Sputters, Lose Again

Oakland Well if you like watching offensive struggles, this was the game to watch. Both Matt Hasselbeck and Tim Tebow had their issues today, looking downright pathetic at points. Michael Bush opened the scoring up with a 23 yard TD run with 5:53 left to play in the first. Olindo Mare countered with a 19 yard field goal after the Seahawks failed to get in from the 1 yard line. Down on the 3 yard line again in the 2nd quarter, Matt Hasselbeck was able to convert hitting John Carlson off the play action fake. Mare was able to add yet another field goal after the Seahawks could not convert from the one again. The score at half was 13-7 with two touchdowns left out on the field.

The second half was all Oakland, as they made enough changes at halftime to confuse Matt Hasselbeck while scoring just enough points. Sebastion Janikowski hit two field goals and Darren McFadden did his best Superman impersonation, shedding a tackle and going airborn for the TD. The Seahawks got the ball back with 2 minutes to go, but Matt Hasselbeck threw a pick. After stopping the Raiders and getting the ball back after a Janikowski field goal, the Seahawks were not able to get anything going.

The St. Louis Rams travel to Qwest field to take on the Seattle Seahawks. This is the first of two meetings this year. The Rams are a surprising 7-3 while and Seahawks are 3-7.
St. Louis Players to Watch
What a difference a year makes. Coming off a terrible 2009 campaign the Rams are looking like playoff contenders. With Stephen Jackson leading the way and Marc Bulger doing what he needs to do to manage the offense the Rams are suddenly no joke. The defense is stacked right up the middle with Ndamukong Suh, James Laurinitis, and O.J Atogwe all having spectacular seasons. The Rams will be without Jacob Bell.

Seattle Seahawks Players to Watch
Seattle heads into today's game at full strength, which is the first time all season they will not be without a starter. The offense is coming off a very forgettable game against the Raiders and needs to rely more on Cedric Peerman and less on Matt Hasselbeck. If Peerman touches the ball 25 times and can get 4-5 yards a play the offense will be in a lot better of a position. Watch for Nate Burleson to have a big game. After Ronald Bartell it is weak at the QB position, so Burleson might have to make plays all over the field to bail out Matt Hasselbeck.

Seahawks Face Tough Off-Season Moves

As the Seahawks drop to four games below .500 and look to the off-season, they face a lot of tough contract situations. Both Brandon Mebane and Josh Wilson are set to become free agents and the team is aware they won't be able to bring both back. Wilson is the team's best CB and is in his 4th season. He has been thrust into the lockdown corner role with Trufant leaving and has relished the opportunity, shutting down almost every WR he has faced. Brandon Mebane is also in his 4th season, and is a converted DE from DT in the 3-4 scheme. Mebane already has 10 sacks on the season and has proved to be a force both against the pass rush and for the rushing defense.

Once you get beyond those two there are a few more noteworthy players who are expiring this season. Matt Hasselbeck's contract expires and all signs point towards him not coming back. With Sam Bradford being the sole QB in this draft, I would assume the Seahawks would try to get him at all costs. If the value isn't there the team could go ahead with QB Mike Leach who they do like. Rob Sims and Chris Spencer are also free agents at LG and C respectively. The team also faces some aging players with fairly large contracts. Walter Jones is up in the air on whether or not he will retire. One would assume if he was to not retire that he may move to RT and allow Trent Williams to take over at RT. That could spell the end for Sean Locklear.

At the skill positions, we have seen a rise in productivity from both Darius Reynaud and Deon Butler. Mardy Gilyard waits in the wings and both T.J Houshmanzadeh and Nate Burleson are aging with fat contracts. I would expect Houshmanzadeh to leave before Burleson, as Housh does not have the same speed he possessed 2-3 years ago and has a bad contract. Expect many moves to go down before free agency hits so the team can get a good look at their salary cap situation heading forward. In related news, the team has agreed to contracts with the following players.

Seahawks Lose in OT, Tight Losses Continue

Seattle Matt Hasselbeck may have thrown his last pass in a Seahawk uniform. The QB went down late in the first quarter to an unidentified injury. The team also lost Terrence Cody to a suspected leg injury. It didn't take long for St. Louis to jump out on top, as Earl Thomas took back the opening kickoff 94 yards to the house. Josh Brown then added a field goal which opened the gap to 10-0. Matt Hasselbeck who was still in the game at this point, answered, hitting Deon Butler right in the chest from 18 yards out for a score. Another Josh Brown field goal made it 13-7 after the first quarter. The second quarter was very uneventful, as both teams traded field goals.

In the third quarter, only one team put points on the board and fortunately enough for us it was in fact the Seahawks. Deon Butler scored his second touchdown of the game, this time from 33 yards out delivered by Mike Teel. It was 17-16 heading into the 4th quarter. Olindo Mare knocked in two more field goals, and with three minutes left the Seahawks were sitting pretty at 23-16. Unfortunately, kickoff coverage did not oblige as they allowed Chris Brown, rookie out of Oklahoma, too take it back 100 yards for a score. The game would go to OT. In overtime, Mike Teel's first pass attempt was intercepted by Bradley Fletcher which would set up a Josh Brown 22 yard field goal for the victory.

We have a few stories to pass along to you. Terrence Cody and Matt Hasselbeck will both be placed on injured reserve effectively ending their season. Cody went down with a torn quadricep on the second play of the St. Louis game while Matt Hasselbeck left with a broken forearm. Terrence Cody had a great start to the season, showing that he is a dominating force up the middle for the Seahawks. Matt Hasselbeck struggled many a time and will most likely not be brought back to Seattle. Many thought that Mike Teel would fill the final 5 games for the Seahawks, but that seems that isn't the case. Colt McCoy, 4th round draft pick and collegiate super star will get a chance to prove his worth, as coach Jim Mora Jr. has given him the nod.

The Seattle Seahawks play host to the Kansas City Chiefs at Qwest Field. Kansas City comes in treading water in the AFC playoff picture with a 5-6 record. The Seahawks are 3-8.
Kansas CIty Players to Watch
Scott Pioli definitely has this team moving in the right direction. Sitting at just one game under .500, the Chiefs have turned some heads fielding a very competitive team. Jamaal Charles is an electrifying playmaker, and with Terrence Cody not there to solidify the run game watch for Charles to get involved early and often. Chris Chambers and Dwayne Bowe offset each other nicely and give the Chiefs a real edge in the passing game. On defense it all starts on the defensive line where Tyson Jackson and Glen Dorsey have both put up great numbers this year.

Seattle Seahawks Players to Watch
All eyes will be on Colt McCoy today as we finally see what the rookie has to offer on the big stage. Colt won't be asked to do much as most of the pressure will be taken off his shoulders by Cedric Peerman and C.J Spiller. On defense Colin Cole will have to fill in for the injured Terrence Cody. Cole is no slouch so don't expect too much of a drop off there. Josh Wilson could face problems against Dwayne Bowe. Bowe has a substantial size advantage over Wilson, it will be interesting to see how that plays out.

McCoy Wins First Start, Seahawks Improve to 4-8

Seattle If the cliche line "all you can do is win" followed Colt McCoy everywhere it certainly didn't forget to travel out to Seattle.It took him a half, but McCoy started to find a rhythm and led the Seahawks to victory. After Olindo Mare and Ryan Succop traded field goals in the first, Jamaal Charles caught a checkdown from Matt Cassel and sprinted the 7 yards to the endzone to go up 10-3 heading into the second. A Ryan Succop field goal made it 13-3, but Colt McCoy finally answered in the waning seconds of the half hitting Nate Burleson in the corner of the end zone for a 9 yard TD pass.

The Seahawks defense rally buckled down in the second half, not allowing a single point to be scored by the Chiefs offense. Nate Burleson and Colt McCoy hooked up again, this time for 39 yards and a score. The Seahawks went up 17-13. Olindo Mare nailed home a 43 yard field goal to pad the score, and the Seahawks would go on to win by 7. Since returning from injury Nate Burleson has been electrifying out of the WR position.
