Matt Hasselbeck was hurt for the last half of the season, nothing I could do there with two youngsters waiting behind him. Clausen was a 73OVR at draft time and he's on the Texans behind Schaub. We will see how Sam turns out and then if i'm wrong I will eat crow

End of the Year Report (GM Perspective)

Coming off our second 4-12 season in a row, I saw this year as more of a disappointment. Although the record was not there the team definitely showed growth on both sides of the ball. We had our first 1,000 yard rusher in Cedric Peerman since Shaun Alexander and also saw Colt McCoy may have a bright future. Unfortunately the team definitely took a hit when Matt went down which is not a good thing to see seeing as this was his last season with the team. I also liked what I saw out of Deon Butler, Nate Burleson, and John Carlson. It was not easy being a receiver this year but they still continued to put up numbers and help Colt, Matt, or Mike out.

Defensively needs a huge pat on the back. We led the league in sacks and were ninth in passing yards allowed. Josh Wilson definitely came into his own this season with the departure of Marcus Trufant which was great to see as a GM. Terrence Cody, Brandon Mebane, and Lawrence Jackson all had fantastic years on the defensive line and definitely made life easier for the linebackers. This was definitely an encouraging sign from the defense.

For those of you who believe that Jim Mora Jr. should be fired, that is not the case. I am a firm believer in allowing a head coach 3-5 years to be able to get his personnel onto the team and to institute his style of play. There is an obvious improvement in this team since we took the job, and much of that has to do with the coaching staff. As for the off-season we definitely have some tough decisions to make. Hopefully the draft will fall our way and we can get out guys. Having two first rounders is definitely encouraging. The upsetting part about this off-season is barring anything surprising we will have to part ways with either Brandon Mebane or Josh Wilson. We don't want to see either guy go, but the salary cap is the salary cap. Stay tuned because this is going to be a very pivotal off-season in the development of our team.

                            Seahawks Release Grant

After four seasons in Seattle, the team has decided to part ways with SS Deon Grant. Grant recorded 77 tackles for the team in 2008, but saw that number get slashed down to just 49 this past season. Grant did not record an interception and was often the safety targeted on deep passing plays. The Seahawks will look to address the situation either through free agency, the draft, or in house with Tyler Sash.

                                Seattle Signs Four

The second year of free agency under GM Mark Chiarelli seems to have taken a bit more of an exciting twist. The Seattle Seahawks have signed four players to the roster, and all four look to become prominent additions. Dwight Lowery, Johnny Jolly, Mike Mickens, and Jeff King have all signed contracts with the Seattle Seahawks.

                                Terms of the Deals

Dwight Lowery, 3 years 22 million.
Johnny Jolly, 2 years 10 million.
Mike Mickens, 2 years 9 million.
Jeff King, 4 years 3.88 million.

Dwight Lowery figures to be one of the two starting corners on the roster. Lowery is 5'11 200 pounds, and spent three seasons in the league with the New York Jets. Lowery recorded 4 INT's in two season with the Jets, but was injured for most of last year. Johnny Jolly looks to fill in for Brandon Mebane, who bolted down the coast to the Chargers. Jolly is a mammoth of a man, standing at 6'3 320. In a convention 4-3 defense he would play DT, but will look to plug the run and command the double team on the outside. Jolly has recorded 9 sacks in each of his last two seasons.

Mike Mickens is entering his third season out of Cincinnati University. He will most likely see the nickel or potentially start opposite of Dwight Lowery depending on how the rest of the off-season and pre-season go. Jeff King will serve as the second tight end in Seattle. King has spent the first 5 years of his career in Carolina where he accumulated 1000 yards and scored nine touchdowns. He looks to be more of a blocker than a pass receiver.
