Seattle Makes Two Trades Hours before Draft for Second Year in a Row
For the second year in a row the Seattle Seahawks have made some draft day trades right before the draft was set to begin. In what appear to be strictly salary cap related moves, the Seahawks and Raiders have swapped draft picks. The Raiders, who own the 4th overall draft pick, are in salary cap hell and would not be able to afford a top round draft pick. The Seattle Seahawks have sent them the New York Jets 1st round pick (17th overall) and the Seattle 2nd round pick in exchange for the Raiders draft pick. The Seahawks will now be drafting back to back at 3 and 4.
The Seahawks have also made a headlining trade, dealing away WR T.J Houshmanzadeh. The T.J Houshmanzadeh experiment did not last long in Seattle. Housh may have been ushered out with the emergence of WR Deon Butler as well as the increased play from Nate Burleson and Darius Reynaud. The Seahawks dealt Houshmanzadeh to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for the 15th overall pick in the 2nd round.Comment

Seahawks Rid Themselves of Two Veterans
The Seattle Seahawks have parted ways with two veterans today. RT Sean Locklear was outright released, ending his stint in Seattle. It is believed that OT Trent Williams will assume his starting role. DE Corey Redding was traded to the Minnesota Vikings for S Kendrick Lewis out of Ole Miss. Lewis looks to be nothing more than a special teamer, but the Seahawks are able to open up space on the defensive line and get younger.Comment

McCoy is only like 63 OVR, he's not the future. He was a 4th round pick and i put him in to see what he had because Hass went down.Comment

Team is looking much, much better than the one you ended last year with. Finally got a legit QB, three solid corners, and some D-Line help. Just need some help on the O-Line and you'll be all set.
Nice work YawkComment

thanks GD, definitely feel like this is the team that will take me somewhere. Bradford at QB will be fun, he's got a great arm and i have a ton of speed at WR's. Carlson is an absolute stud at TE, can catch and block. Although the ratings at HB look low Peerman just ran for 1,000 yards. Peerman is my earth, Spiller is the wind, and Rodgers is the fire. Offensive line, still have the rock with Walter while Unger is much improved. Hopefully Trent Williams continue to progress nicely.
I don't think the loss of Brandon Mebane will hurt as much as it looks. Jolly is a tank of a man, it's like having 2 NT on the defensive line a 34. Linebackers are boss and the CB's are getting better. Tyler Sash at SS>Deon Grant. We got younger and improved all around.
edit: ran out of thanks LC, but yeah I love Rodgers too. He might actually overtake SpillerComment

As we head into the 2011 season, yet again not many position battles arise. At QB, we have our man. Some may be concerned about Sam Bradford starting right out as a rookie, but there really isn't anyone else on the roster capable of being a starter and winning. HB is a strange position because we have a starter in Cedric Peerman, but we also have two viable options in Jacquizz Rodgers and C.J Spiller. Look for all of them to be involved in this offense. At WR the #1 guy will be Nate Burleson and the #2 will be Deon Butler. Darius Reynaud will come out of the slot. The only battle at this position will be for the #4th receiver because both Gilyard and Sanzenbacher come in pretty evenly matched.
On defense we may see a few youngsters signed to come in and provide depth, especially at DE and at MLB. Everything is pretty much set in stone. I'll be more interested in who wins the backup roles such as the backup QB and backup HB.Comment

'Hawks Sign 2 To Bolster Defensive Depth
The Seahawks have made two free agent acquisitions today just days before the first pre-season game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The team came to terms with LE Charles Johnson and ILB Ricky Brown. Brown is entering his 6th season out of Boston College. He was drafted by the Raiders and spent three years in Oakland totaling 53 tackles. He was cut in 2009 and has since spent time bouncing from practice squad to practice squad. Brown looks to provide depth at MLB in case of injury. Charles Johnson is entering his 4th season out of Georgia. A former Dawg, Johnson spent the beginning of his career in Carolina where he amassed 34 tackles and 7 sacks. Johnson is another able body added to the rotation of defensive lineman we already have.Comment
