TEXAS DOMINATES 2ND HALF TO WIN 4TH STRAIGHT
THE LONGHORNS ARE GETTING HOT AT THE RIGHT TIME AFTER YET ANOTHER WIN OVER A BIG XII FOE

Over the past four weeks, Texas has been returning to their undefeated form of a year ago, dominating teams offensively and defensively in tremendous displays of talent. This week was no different as the Longhorns controlled the ball over nearly 39 minutes, racked up 471 total offensive yards, and limited the Cowboys to just 205 total offensive yards in a dominant 35-21 victory to give the team their fourth straight win. Tied up at 14 heading into halftime, the Longhorns exploded for 21 unanswered points in the second half to safely put the game away. David Ash continued his accuracy issues under center, completing just 17 of 40 passes for 185 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. His go-to man was unstoppable senior Miles Onyegbule, who had eight catches for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Joe Bergeron returned to action and dominated as usual, rushing for 148 yards and two scores off 24 carries for an average of 6.1 yards per touch. Backup runningback Jonathan Gray added 73 yards off 12 carries. Defensively, sophomore cornerback Bryson Echols recorded his first interception of the season, and returned it 34 yards for a touchdown. The Cowboys also turned David Ash's only pick of the day into a score. As a defensive unit, Texas allowed just nine first downs, and limited the Cowboys to 49 total rushing yards and just three successful conversions on eleven 3rd down attempts. Next up for the Longhorns is a battle to decide the first place team in the Big XII west as Texas travels to take on Baylor (5-3, 3-2), who are coming off a big 35-30 win over TCU last week. Baylor's defense as a whole allows over 420 yards per game to rank them 104th in the country, but their rush defense has proven to be stout, and their ground game has led the offense to an average of 31.1 points per game. Leading the charge are runningbacks Lache Seastrunk and Jeremy Hill, who have combined for nearly 1,200 yards and 13 touchdowns, while junior quarterback Zack Oliver has added 441 yards and four scores. Oliver has taken over for injured starter Bryce Petty, who has missed the majority of the season with a dislocated knee.

#14 TEXAS LONGHORNS (7-2, 5-2)

Heading into the home stretch of the 2014 season, there were three teams vying to clinch a spot in the Big XII conference championship game in the west: Texas, TCU, and Baylor. Two of those teams met today, and the match-up did not disappoint as the game went all the way to overtime, where Texas' fourth rushing touchdown of the day gave them a 37-30 victory over the unranked Bears, and extended their win streak to five while putting them in the driver's seat of the division with one conference game left to play.

David Ash had a decent day through the air, completing 18 of 33 passes for 250 yards and a touchdown, and scoring again on the ground in the win. His go-to man was third-year sophomore Cayleb Jones, who had five catches for 87 yards and a touchdown. But Texas' bread and butter for the last several seasons has been the ground game, and it held true again this week as the team racked up 169 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. Joe Bergeron (pictured above) carried the ball 24 times for 106 yards, and scored the game-winning touchdown in overtime, while backup runningback Jonathan Gray added 69 yards and two scores off just 11 carries. Defensively, Texas recorded four sacks and two crucial interceptions to play a big part in the close win on Saturday. The Longhorns are now the only team in the west with two or fewer losses in the conference, but will still need a victory over TCU (7-3, 5-3) in their season finale three weeks from now to clinch the division.

On the other side of the ball, Baylor played a great game against outstanding competition, but could not overcome their mistakes in the end. Junior quarterback Zack Oliver completed 14 of 32 passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns, but also had two costly interceptions. Oliver also had 39 rushing yards and another score. Speaking of the ground game, sophomore Jeremy Hill had 75 yards and a touchdown off 14 carries, and senior Lache Seastrunk carried the ball six times for 36 yards, and also had three catches for 50 yards and a score in the loss. Baylor's defense dominated Texas' o-line in pass rushing situations, recording an amazing seven sacks, but they also allowed 419 total offensive yards and five touchdowns. With their conference title hopes on life support, the Bears hit the road for the next two weeks to take on Oklahoma and Oklahoma State before wrapping up their regular season at home against Texas Tech. All three games are must-wins for the team, and they would need TCU to beat Texas in week fourteen to force a three-way tie at the top of the division.

Next week, the Longhorns return home for what should be an easy win as they play host to Marshall (3-5, 2-2), who have lost four of their last five games. The Thundering Herd rank near the bottom of the nation with an average of 23.5 points per game (94th), and their rush defense ranks a below-average 78th. In the hostile confines of DKR Stadium, there's little hope that Marshall can pull off a big upset.

TEXAS' SEEMINGLY UNSTOPPABLE GROUND GAME FLEXED IT'S MUSCLE AGAIN IN WEEK TWELVE

In what can almost be called a warmup to their regular season finale against TCU, the 13th ranked Longhorns dominated Marshall in all aspects of the game on Saturday to increase their winning streak to six games. Senior quarterback David Ash completed 11 of 21 passes for 101 yards and a touchdown, and also made a sizable contribution on the ground, rushing for 68 yards and two scores off 15 carries. Speaking of the ground game, Joe Bergeron led the effort with 25 carries for 153 yards, but it was backup runningback Jonathan Gray who impressed the most, rushing for 153 yards and a touchdown off just 14 carries for a staggering average of 10.9 yards per carry. His yardage included an 80-yard TD run in the second quarter. Defensively, the Longhorns continued to impress, recording five sacks, two interceptions, and limiting the Thundering Herd to just 279 total offensive yards and fourteen points. Both of their interceptions came in the endzone, killing what seemed to be surefire scoring drives for the opposition. With aspirations of a ten-win season and back-to-back conference titles, Texas will take next week off before travelling north to face off against TCU (7-3, 5-3) in what will essentially be the unofficial Big XII west division championship game. If Baylor cannot win out, then the winner of TCU and Texas would win the division...but if the Bears finish the season with two conference wins, a TCU victory on Saturday would throw the division into a three-way tie.

TEXAS PUTS FINISHING TOUCHES ON IN-SEASON RECRUITING CLASS
With only a few weeks left in the regular season, the Longhorns brought their number of committed recruits to 16 on the year, giving the team the #1 recruiting class in the nation at this point in the year, and wrapping up their recruiting efforts until the spring. The gem of this latest round of commitments has to be four-star prospect DeMarcus Jackson, an offensive tackle out of Galena Park, Texas. The Longhorns are loaded with freshmen and sophomores at the position, but when Jackson does finally reach the starting lineup, he's sure to be a key component of Texas' continued success on the ground. The team also added four-star athlete prospect Kendall Allen of Monahans, TX. Allen translates best to a runningback or wide receiver, but both positions are a little crowded at the moment, so he may end up somewhere like tight end. Finally, three-star prospect Lorenzo Long (OLB) of DeLand, Florida joined the team, anfd will provided much-needed depth to the linebacker position.

Texas Tech (5-7, 2-7) upset Baylor (7-5, 5-4) 38-14 in their regular season finale. Baylor's loss guarantees that the winner of TCU vs. Texas will represent the west against #4 Clemson in the Big XII conference championship game.

Texas watched their 21-0 lead to start the game turn into a 24-24 tie with less than four minutes to play in the fourth quarter, putting their chances at a second straight Big XII title game berth in serious jeopardy. But when they needed him the most, team leader Joe Bergeron was there, scoring from three yards out with just 22 seconds left to put the 7th ranked Longhorns permanently ahead as they edged out TCU 31-24 to win the west and set up another date with Clemson.

While the ground game was a key factor to Saturday's victory, David Ash certainly had a hand in it as well, completing 13 of 27 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns. His go-to man was senior Miles Onyegbule, who had six catches for 107 yards and a score. But it was senior runningback Joe Bergeron (pictured above) who earned player of the game honors, rushing for 118 yards and two touchdowns off 22 carries for an average of 5.3 yards per touch. Backup runningback Jonathan Gray added another 48 yards off 12 carries. Defensively, the Longhorns recorded one sack and forced two crucial turnovers to turn the tide of the game early, and allow their team to jump out to a 21-0 lead that they rode to their 10th win of the season.

On the other side of the ball, the Horned Frogs had a chance to earn their first Big XII title game berth, and even managed to overcome a 21-point deficit, but simply could not overcome their in-state rivals in the end. Senior QB Matt Brown struggled to produce under center, completing just 11 of 24 passes for 76 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Brown also rushed for 84 yards off 14 carries. Speaking of the ground game, junior Aaron Green led the effort with 20 carries for 117 yards, and backup runningback B.J. Cantalon added 29 yards and a touchdown off eight carries. TCU managed to outgain the Longhorns on the ground, but their nearly non-existant passing game offset that in the end. TCU's defense only recorded one sack, did not force any turnovers, and allowed 341 total offensive yards and 31 points in five redzone trips.

Now the Longhorns will turn their attention to #3 Clemson (10-2, 7-2), whom they will meet in the Big XII championship game for the second straight season. Despite the fact that they both have two losses on the year, a national championship berth isn't completely out of the question for either team with some tough games remaining for the schools ahead of them in the rankings, so a conference title won't be the only thing on the line in Dallas.

Down 28-14 with one quarter left to play, Texas' chances of back-to-back conference titles looked slim. But the team would not be denied, scoring 21 unanswered points to end the game and stun the #3 Clemson Tigers 35-28...but that wasn't the only shocking news this week. #1 Georgia Tech, #2 Iowa, #3 Clemson, and #4 USC all felt the bitter sting of defeat in conference championship weekend, leaving the door wide open for the unsuspecting two-loss Texas Longhorns to sneak into a second straight BCS national championship game.

David Ash struggled mightily under center, completing just 9 of 20 passes for 86 yards, and throwing three interceptions in the redzone that killed what would've most certainly been scoring drives. But, as usual, the ground game bailed him out. Joe Bergeron (pictured above) led the effort with 156 yards and three touchdowns off 27 carries on his way to being named player of the game, averaging 5.7 yards per carry. Backup runningback Jonathan Gray added 48 yards off 10 carries, and senior wide receiver John Harris scored on a three-yard WR sweep to complete the comeback and put the team ahead with two minutes left to play. Sitting at #5 on the depth chart, Harris was a surprising choice to get the ball in such a crucial moment after having recorded just one catch for nine yards in his entire collegiate career, but he'll be celebrated like a superstar now. Defensively, senior Tevin Jackson (OLB) led the effort with eight tackles and two interceptions, and returned one of those picks 34 yards for a touchdown to tie the game up at 28 late in the fourth quarter. Jackson has been an integral piece of the defense all year, racking up 68 tackles, five sacks, four picks, and two forced fumbles. As a unit, the Longhorns recorded one sack and three interceptions, doing just enough in the end to help their team get their biggest victory of the season.

On the other side of the ball, the Tigers have seen another amazing season end in bitter disappointment. Senior quarterback Cole Stoudt completed 15 of 30 passes for 224 yards and four touchdowns, but also threw three interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. His go-to man was senior Sammy Watkins, who had five catches for 111 yards and a score. As for the ground game, senior D.J. Howard led the effort with 101 yards off 18 carries, but did not reach the endzone. Clemson's defense recorded three interceptions, and limited the Longhorns to four scores in seven redzone trips, but also allowed three successful fourth down conversions that kept drives alive, and couldn't stop the Longhorns from scoring 21 unanswered points in the final fifteen minutes.

Riding an eight-game winning streak, the Longhorns will now begin preparation for their second straight appearance in the BCS national championship game, where they will face off against unsuspecting #2 Louisville (12-1, 10-0), another benefactor of the upheaval at the top of the rankings.
