      Wow.

Now Kanye is only well known to the 18-35 crowd?
Well I guess that means nobody in High School listens to him, lol.
Ironically when most of the VSNers who listen to him, started. They were in middle school. But whatever....

So you consider Brittney Spears a crossover star?
Funny, I don't ever recall hearing her on a hip hip or rock station. Only top 40.
Kanye by the way, appears on both hip hop and top 40 stations.

I would give "Stronger" as a example of a huge crossover hit(reached #1 in the country), but I'm guessing it'd be pointless because you've never heard of the song before.

I'm through though, this is dumb. How am I suppose to debate Kanye's popularity and relevance with someone who hardly knows anything about him.
You laugh at my "comparison" to Thriller, The Wall, & Purple Rain when you don't even know what album I'm talking about. 5 mins ago you didn't know the short film existed and now you can already laugh at it?

      I give up.

Kanye West is the only active artist to have even done it.

Yeah, because if it was half as relevant as something like Thriller or Purple Rain, don't you think there is a good chance i'd know what the fuck you were talking about?

I know you werent around in 1983, but I can assure you, everyone on the planet (yes, the PLANET) was aware of Thriller. To compare Kanye to Michael f'n Jackson is just retarded. Britney was silly enough, now its obvious you are just completely lost.

And maybe I used bad verbiage, but what I meant by crossover star was that Spears is a really famous person. Kanye isnt. He's well known inhip hop and by hardcore music fans. Spears is an iconic personality.

Keep in mind I have no dog in this fight, I think both Spears and Kanye make really, really shitty music.

Britney Spears, who Pitty and some others who are completely out of touch with reality seem to think is yesterdays news, is ranked #6 in the world, behind only Oprah, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, James Cameron, and Tiger Woods. And that's up from ranking #13 last year.

Yes, clearly Spears is clinging to her celebrity and hasnt been relevent for a decade...please. She just completed the 5th highest grossing tour in the world.

Spears was "only" 64th in income, but ranked 15th in tv/radio, 24th in press, 3rd in web, and 2nd in social visability. That last number means she's really, really famous.

Britney Spears is a fucking MEGA STAR, it's insulting to Spears to suggest that Kanye West is in the same universe as her in terms of popularity and visability.

If you are wondering where Kanye came in on the list, the answer is he didn't rank at all. Surprised? I'm not.

Bumped so Houston can ignore this again.

Spears is the #6 celebrity in the world based on measurable factors. That's crossing over. She is mainstream, she is engrained in the culture, she is a superstar.

Kanye is nowhere to be found, despite his indy show gigs, sweet Rolling Stone reviews, and super duper short film that nobody cares about.

I'm sure Kanye would make a hip hop list. You know, his fragmented genre where he is really popular.

W2b Already posted the most significant piece of material. Britney is and has been bigger than Kanye. Her music will last no matter how inferior you may think it is. Its safe its easy to sell buy or package for decades to come. Kanye is not. Plain and simple

I didn't compare them in the sense that I was saying Kanye's video was as good.

I was giving you examples of past short film videos so you'd know what I was talking about.

The point isn't who watched it, the point is who did it. Kanye West.

No small artist in a "fragmented world" would get the chance to do what he did. That's the point.

Never called him a "small artist". I said he isnt nearly as famous as you think, and I did say he's a big star in his world.

I'm not claiming he's a nobody. I'm saying his fame does not extend greatly beyond his genre. He's ignored by non fans. You cant ignore someone like Spears or The Beatles or Madonna or Beyonce or Rolling Stones or Elvis or Michael Jackson. All of these people are of varying degrees of fame that Kanye cant touch. Instantly recognizable mega stars.

I'm saying that it doesn't matter if only 10 people watched it, and nobody talked about it after.
At the end of the day no star who hasn't crossed over would even have the opportunity to be on all of those channels at the same time.

If what he said is true.....then with time all of that stuff Forbes mention will fade away and Brittney will only have her music.

Since Kanye West music holds up better then Brittney's. What makes you think that future generations will listen to her over Kanye West?

Plus, I was never comparing spears and kanye. Only houston & warner are doing that. I was just saying I feel as if Warner is downplaying Kanye's fame, and made that post to show he is widely recognized. Seriously though, can we stop de-railing this thread? You've turned "who will still be listened to in 40 years.." to "Who is a bigger star: Kanye or Brittney".

:edit: didn't call it a greatest seller. Said it was a best seller. It was on a best seller list, which makes it a best seller. Thank you very much.
