Edit-
The majority of his songs never reached higher than 20 in the UK. While just about every fucking track the Black Eyed Peas release made it to the top 3 with most charting out and number one. By your criteria, they're a more prominent band. I weep for humanity.Comment

I for one, can't name 3 Madonna songs. Does that mean she's not huge just because I have 0 interest in her?
Like I said, you not caring about Kanye West isn't any indicator of how big or small he is. I doubt anyone on this site cares about Brittney Spears, but that doesn't stop us all from knowing who she is. Just like we all know who Kanye West is..Comment

Originally posted by heelswxmanLet me spell it out again because apparently I didn't do a proper job of it the first time. He's not going to be remembered in the future the way bands like the Beatles are today
Nobody is saying Kanye is gonna be an iconic figure that people hold in the highest regards. We're just saying that he is pretty damn popular, and people will remember him for a long time. Definitely inside of no bubble.
The fact remains that everyone that came in this thread knew who Kanye West was. People who don't even listen to rap knew who Kanye West was, isn't that some indication of his fame?
Edit-I had Vogue, and Like a Virgin.Comment

For the record I think Kanye sucks and hate his music.
Sue I guess Kanye might be "remembered" but by no one else than people that liked his music.
IMO in 40 years Spears will much more "remembered" than Kanye and it won't be close.Comment

So far I've counted 4 people in this thread who don't like Kanye West but all know of him. What makes you think there wont be plenty of people thinking the same 40 years from now? I know we all get old and our memory goes bad, but assuming we can still hang on, you guys will more then likely still remember Kanye West years down the road.
We all can name musicians of the past that we don't like but are aware of. Kanye West doesn't have to be liked outside of the hip hop community for people to remember him. I can find a bunch of heavy metal fans who can't name 15 rap songs yet know who Tupac is.
Hip hop fans who can't name 5 bands from the 70's but know who AC/DC is.
How can you be so sure that Kanye won't be in that same boat?
Like I said, if your memory doesn't go horrible bad. You'll be a person who knows of Kanye West yet isn't a fan on him.Comment

True he will be an answer to some trivia questions or the name might stick a bit. But he's really not all that special, unique, socially relevant enough, or a big enough star to be remembered on any large scale level.
If Kanye is killed does that mean he quits making music? If so..I'm all for it.
Kanye may be "remembered" in some small way but not really in anyway of significance outside of being an answer on Jeopardy 2051.
People will simply say "Oh yeah..that guy"...and move on. It won't really mean much.Comment

I think of it this way.
I was 9 years old when I first became an Iron Maiden fan. Despite a slight dip in my early twenties I am still an Iron Maiden fan..
When I go to see Iron Maiden in Cardiff in August I will be 33 years old, yet I will be about 25 years older than the youngest person in that room and about 35 years younger than the oldest person in the room.
That's an example of longevity; I go to an Iron Maiden gig and I feel old. Despite the fact that I used to have to get my Dad to take me to Maiden shows back in the day.
So, my question to current Kanye West fans is do you think that in 35 years time are your grandchildren going to be begging you to take them to a KW show?
Will they have the enthusiasm of the eight year olds I see at Maiden gigs?
