I want the exact opposite. I want explosions blowing out my eardrums and zombies screaming from all directions.

I want to shut my brain off. Darabont and his band of dorks won't let me because they think they can make a "serious" zombie piece.

If you expected this show to be just like a round of Zombies from Call of Duty, you were looking for the wrong thing. That is like me complaining about Modern Family not having enough hardcore lesbian scenes (which I have done, but mind you, it was in private). The show was never meant to be that, it is much more about people coping with the issue of surviving in these hellish conditions and their interactions with each other.

That being said, I think it is fair to compare it to the source material when they do episodes or story arcs that are just below average at best. I cannot remember a single person who said the first season finale was on par with the rest of the first season. It wasn't. It was bad. It was also created purely for the show and not from the comics. That episode could have never existed and I would have been pretty happy with the first season. On the other hand, their creation of the character Daryl has been good. I like the character, although I wish he had more air time instead of say... Carl or Lori, neither of which I can stand. So their creations for the show aren't all bad, but still, I feel the show is lacking overall direction that could be greatly assisted by simply referring back to the material the show is based upon.

If it makes anyone feel better they are leaving the farm in the finale. Andrew Lincoln said something happens in the finale that makes the farm not safe anymore, forcing them to leave.
