Its Evil Dead. The second was basically a campier remake of the original already. They are just doing what is essentially now a third remake and giving it a much more serious, horror tone.

The problem is that I think serious horror is not nearly as popular as it used to be. I think they would have been better off doing a campy remake and saying fuck it, we're going to try and catch lightning in a bottle twice. Sadly, Bruce Campbell is too perfect for his role and it would be tough to replace him with any actor and get the same level of symbiosis of an actor and role being perfect for one another.

      Looks retarded.

They almost didn't make this movie because there was so much fan negativity around it because people don't want a bunch of broads in a cabin in the woods finding a book and going from there. If there's no Ash from housewares in it I won't see it

I think you guys are being a bit overly-nostalgic about the originals. Evil Dead II is practically slapstick and there is no way they could emulate that kind of feeling in a horror movie today. Raimi already already came as close as it gets and mainly succeeded in it with Drag Me to Hell. No way a Bruce Campbell character would work either, and it seems like they aren't trying to replace him with anyone at all, although I would be really surprised if there wasn't a cameo.

If this can keep a certain amount of being over the top in its gruesomeness and not be straight torture porn I think it could be good, but there's hints of it possibly being both. I won't completely jump on the bandwagon but I think it could be solid.

Growing up on the Trilogy (yea VHS and DVD at the local Blockbuster!), I can see where nostalgia comes into play here.

Having combed over the DVD extras and reading excerpts, I can see the heart of the originals due to the love and care put into them (no way a big studio puts their stars through what Bruce did to make ED1 and 2).

The new stuff, while destined to fail due to bias or lack of general ticket sales when there's going to be a bigger glut of souless dreck to choose from playing on the same week/weekend, should be fine IMO.

If you're paying to see this, it's because you want to see kids on-screen get fucked up for getting high/drunk and reading from a book that has no business being in the hands of some stupid people with no cell service or internet.

Definately going to watch if for no other reason than I liked the originals so much, especially the second one (Evil Dead 2). Will it have the same impact as when I saw them "back then"......no, but I will have fun with it BECAUSE of that.

3 months later and I'm ready to be wowed this Friday.

Nothing but good-to-great reviews and having read about some of the plot, I'm interested to see where they visually take the film.

...if the end is shot-for-shot like the first movie, I'll weep for joy.

That or spill my cola on some poor sucker in front of me.

Bruce Campbell is giving this his blessing in a recent Entertainment Weekly. He said he and Raimi met the director and liked what he brought to the table. If Bruce is down with it, I'm going to see it.

I just came back from seeing the film.

I can say with certainty, it's one of the better love letters I've seen to the horror genre and the Evil Dead series itself.

                      MOVIE SPOILERS:

                      I'm not fucking around

Go see it first then come back

                      Last Warning

Essentially, if you took 5 kids, each with some passing similarity to the original movies' cast's traits and stuck them in the cabin from the series, this is what would happen.

It hits all the right notes and if you're a die-hard, you'll see all the references (the original car, the chainsaw, the reciting of the passages to let the "Force" to come back, the Force raising hell, the cellar, the porch swing, etc.) and if you're watching for the first time...

You're going to have to sit through an hour or so for some of the worst violence perpetrated on people in a while.

I'm talking stuff from basic nicks and scrapes to full-on bludgeoning, dismemberment and death-via-fireball.

                      The ending:

The ending I can settle for having thought the guy they had picked to play as the "Ash" (or at least the male counterpart if you want to get technical and say that Mia is basically Evil Ash/Ash from Evil Dead 2 if he'd stayed possessed for most of the first two films) would live and instead...

He was the "Fake Survivor" as Mia was literally brought back from the dead to "finish the job" herself (with the handy chainsaw no less).

Mia's our Final Survivor and we end with the Book making it through the night as well (The book won't burn).

I doubt there'll be a sequel unless EVERYBODY loves the movie this weekend but I'd recommend it.

Heard from a buddy from high school that the movie sucked as well. He was a huge Evil Dead fan too.

Its kinda wierd because some people really like it and some people really hate it.

I saw it Friday night and thought it was good (never saw the original). Exactly what I was expecting.
