What YOU are doing right now, b!tching about everyone instead of placing the entire blame on Lefty34, is actually lowering the amount of actual discussion. And no, we haven't always had the best discourse with each other. Many times our arguments have spiraled into this same trap. Ditto for Warner and I.

Hold on, quit making it sound like I just came into this thread after people had read and responded to my article and started acting a fool. I started by quoting people that disagreed with my points and addressed them as best I could from my perspective. Warner then made a matter-of-fact statement about pitching wins balancing out, something that was certainly not obvious to me (and though no one would admit it, they didn't know it either), and I asked him to prove it.

LOL at you jumping on Warner for making a matter of fact statement when it was obvious to anyone who ever watched baseball..........when you wrote an entire article on things that are beyond obvious to anyone who watches baseball and act as though it takes any real statistical analysis to know it.

Bad wins and tough luck losses even out.

You have to look at more than one stat when analyzing a player.

Both are simple, obvious comments.

The difference? W2B didn't write an entire pointless article on the subject.

I'm not. I've placed him in the blame just as much as you. I agree, all sides act abrasive towards one another.

The point is, you can make your points with succouming to personal attacks or the "your argument is stupid it's like *insert hyperbole about another sport*"

Just as Lefty struggles with handling people disagreeing with his points.

We all have our faults, I just think the level of shitty posts that all our baseball threads turn into is all but ruining whatever baseball discussion we could have. You can argue and disagree with people without having to personally attack the others. We should be beyond that, but we aren't.

Here was Lefty's VERY FIRST COMMENT to W2B's on-topic posting about pitching wins evening out in the long run.

Oh really, where? Show me the distributions, show me where that stuff evens out in the data-set. Inane, idle talk like that also really needs to go from baseball discussion.

So, not only does Lefty34 want to eliminate baseball talk from the baseball discussion (the exact thing you are harping on everyone else about), he also chides W2B for his "inane, idle talk"...which is almost exactly how you described Lefty34's initial article when defending it.

Not only are you totally in the wrong on this, I have no idea why you are besmirching your own reputation by continuing to defend Lefty34's antics. He is the exact opposite of what you are trying to accomplish (baseball discussion).

Yeah, I did say that, but at the time I thought Warner was just arbitrarily saying that those types of wins and losses even out. Many times, people just say "X evens out over time" without any statistical backing (regardless of whether they are right initially), and that's stupid. However, Warner was right, and he proved me wrong (though not about my larger point about Wins and Losses for pitchers being useless), albeit after queening out about being asked to prove it.

Dude, everything evens out over time. You don't need any statistical backing, it's the fucking law of averages.

There is definitely a regression towards the mean in many baseball statistics (if a guy has a bad year batting average wise you can reasonably expect him to go back to his average or whatever), but that's not always the case with wins and losses. Sometimes you just have a really shitty team that doesn't score any runs for you. Year-by-year, possibly. Over the course of a career, no.
