Well, they definitely replaced Brett Gardner. Can't see this being more than a rental due to Ichiro's age, and he could go back to the Mariners at the end of the season, but the Yankees did a great job replacing an offensive catalyst. Hopefully being in a pennant race once more will energize Ichiro.

We all love the traditional lineup roles, don't we? Happen to say anything to him?

Nothing says legit leadoff guy like a .288 OBP and 17 walks this year.

As a rule I don't talk baseball with Yankees fans, lol.

                      This hurts me right now.

When Ichiro came into the league in 2001, I was only 8 years old. Griffey and Arod just left, and in comes Ichiro, who took their place. I know his performance dropped off the last couple of seasons, but I would have loved to see him retire as a Mariner. Good for Ichiro though, I hope he can win a ring, he definitely deserves one.

I will miss you Ichiro. From the lazer-beam throws from right field, to breaking the hit record and being a threat on the bases.

I'm still just a teen, but I already feel old. Thanks for the memories, Ichiro.

I was playing my RTTS about a month or two ago and Ichiro was on the Yankees. I thought to myself, "like that would really happen".

I'm a Yanks fan, but not real sure about this move. First, I have to echo Potatoes' sentiment. I'm a sucker for guys that spend their entire career with one team and would love to see Ichiro stay in Seattle (Go Chipper!). Second, it reeks of some of the franchise's worst habits, bringing in big name guys who don't have a whole lot left in the tank. Obviously, I hope it works out but not sure it should've been done.

Happy he's gone. He's been blocking younger guys from getting playing time for the past 2 seasons. This will also eliminate the possibility of him returning next year.

For the Yankees, all it cost them is money. Extremely low risk, high reward.
