    Trade Hypothetical (Pirates/Marlins)

    Pirates receive:
    OF Giancarlo Stanton

    Marlins receive:
Jameson Taillon RHP, Age 21, #19 prospect overall prospect, #2 team prospect according to Baseball America
Gregor Polanco CF, Age 21, #51 overall overall, #4 team, potential 30/30 guy
Tony Sanchez C, Age 25, #12 team prospect
Tyler Glasnow RHP, Age 20, #19 team prospect but Larry's inside scoopz say he's rising fast

Do you do this trade if you are the Pirates? I think so. But if you are the Marlins, you might understandably hold out for Gerrit Cole + a random guy.

I think the Pirates will balk at that request, but something has to give. This move could put them over, and they've waited 20 years to get back to where they are now.

Do you pull the trigger on trade A if you are the Marlins? And if you are the Pirates, do you pull the trigger on trade B, presuming the Marlins refuse trade A?

I do that trade if i'm the Pirates, without much of a second thought.

If i'm the Marlins, I pass. If the Pirates called, i'd ask for Cole plus a A-ball lottery ticket type, or hang up the phone. If i'm trading Stanton, I want a sure thing in return, and I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that.

Why wouldn't the Pirates do that one?

MIA would decline, I'm sure they could get a better deal in the winter.

Pirates should definitely do it, Marlins would be stupid. They have an outfielder who isn't even 25 yet who is one of the best in the game. Why even consider moving him right now, and even if they do, they need a comparable piece and not a package.

Because he doesn't want to be there and is very open about it. Plus, the earlier you trade him, you assume you can land a higher yield in a trade.

Wait for winter and there would likely be more potential trade partners.
