Women's basketball is very physical and the players tend to me very dirty. Its funny though, because for the most part most women are on the same plain athletically, so skillset come into play. However, when you have someone like Griner or Delle Donne at some point it just isn't fair, because they're just so physically dominant. My area has 3 highschool girls who are D1 talents, but they separate themselves even more because skillset wise and athletically they play like dudes. They all are nationally ranked.Comment

Iit all started when I was in highschool....I messed with this chick who played on the highschool team...she went to my games and I went to her's.....she now is a lesbian.
Not my fault.Comment

It's just such a below the rim game, that it's really tough in 2012 to watch when the other options are so much more of an exciting game.
It's like willingly watching 1950s football on a Sunday afternoon when all the NFL games are on.
The playing style is pure basketball, lots of ball movement, it's a flashback to the way the game was before everyone became gigantic men with ungodly athleticism.Comment

It really is. As in the way the game was designed to be played. John Wooden always talks about how he loved women's basketball more because it was less about athleticism, above the rim, showmanship, etc. and more about team-play and ball movement.
With that being said, there's a reason basketball has evolved since it was a bunch of jews dribbling 5 feet in the air and passing the ball 45 times a possession.Comment

Or the way the game was forced the be played because it was invented by unathletic whites.
I'm not sure we could prove Naismith ever inteded for the game to not move forward or should stay the way it was forever.
IMO women's basketball is by far a worse product than men's ball so I don't see the "pure" aspect of it.Comment

Of course it's a worse product, when did I say otherwise?
I'm just saying people like Wooden use it as reference of a flashback of the way the game was originally intended. Of course it was bound to evolve but for old schoolers like Wooden he'd prefer it stay 1950s style. There's no denying it's a far worse, more boring product, but there's also no denying it's a flashback of the game as it was played in the 20s-50s.
To me, that's not appealing at all, which is why I go out of my way to not watch a minute of any women's basketball since I think it's an absolutely awful game and I don't want to watch 1930s basketball.Comment

I never said you did.
I'd argue that basketball by design should be/was made to be played the way it is now and the game the men play now is more "pure" than the Wooden preference.Comment
-
I guess it comes down to pure vs. old school and how you define that. I honestly don't care either way because the end result is a really shitty product of basketball.Comment

I didn't know people besides girls basketball teams with free tickets and parents actually watched women's basketball.
The hell is wrong with you people?Comment
