James Harden Signs 5-Year, $80m Deal

    Rotoworld

As expected, James Harden has agreed to a maximum five-year, $80 million extension with the Rockets.

This was a foregone conclusion after the Rockets unloaded Kevin Martin's expiring contract, lottery pick Jeremy Lamb, two future first-round picks and a future second-round pick to acquire Harden and a few throw-ins. Harden will get the franchise-player treatment in Houston, and he should have free rein offensively.

Asked a buddy tonight - the show or the title?
He said: Depends on where I'm at in my career.

At 23, I suspect Harden made the right choice. He can change his mind in 5 years if the Houston experiment fails.

He can always go the Gary Payton route and sign on cheap with a loaded team late in his career. Best to get that money now while he can.
