winning at the half but geeze our offense (passing game) and our defense look like shit. Mike Jenkins doesn't seem to know what the fuck he is doing out there. Twice he thought he had inside help and twice he didn't. Hopefully our run defense is going to step up because Cadillac is shitting on us.
Meanwhile Romo doesn't look good at all. Most of his throws are behind the WR or overthrown. Flozell continued where he left off, committing stupid ass penalties.
Same old Bucs. Leftwich misses a open Bryant in the endzone. Oh, wait, not the same old Bucs. Our kicker sucks ass!
Really, cause this looks a lot like the Mike Shula/Clyde Christensen Buc offenses of old. Save for getting the ball downfield and being a little more vertical in the pass game, this is an offense that is clearly committed to the run game. It has worked thus far too. Carnell is looking very strong running the football and K2 has already shown that he is a mismatch for linebackers.
Maddon & Friedman: Pissing off the AL East since 2008
-Run D looks horrific. Don't know how much of that is the poor tackling and how much of it is that Cadillac is just a beast again. Happy to see him healthy again, despite the fact he's tearing us up
-Romo looks really off. His accuracy on the move is what makes him what he is and we haven't seen that today. (As I'm typing this he nails Roy W for a 66 yd TD. Nice)
-It's not showing up in the stat sheet, but Gaines Adams is abusing Flozell on the left side. That's not a good sign.
GG, Bucs. Much better and tougher team than I gave them credit for. Cadillac looks like he's back. Clayton is a tough m'fer, and that also goes x1000 for Leftwich.
That being said,
-Defense looked atrocious (especially against the run). No pass rush in the first half whatsoever, horrible tackling, too much cushion to the WRs.
This was an offense that fired it's coordinator 10 days ago, and it's WR corps had spent 0 time with the starting QB. Had that been an offense that knew what it was doing, our D would have been eviscerated. Can't come out like that against the Giants and expect to stop them.
-Romo started slow, then really picked it up starting with the last drive of the 2nd qtr. I keep hearing about how we've lost our big-play potential now that "The player" is gone, but I didn't notice much difference today. We took advantage of their mistakes on defense.
-Felix Jones needs to touch the ball more, still.
-Martellus Bennett didn't do a lot stat-wise, but he really opened up the offense by creating mismatches. We're only gonna get better on that front.
-Age is catching up with Flozell Adams.
-David Buehler already paying huge dividends. 3 Touchbacks when we had none last year.
-No turnovers
-No false starts
-Few penalties
The last 4 are HUGE.
Defense has to get its shit together for the G-Spots.
Game was decent, but I think that our defense needs to get it together if we want to beat a playoff-caliber team, we got the benefit of the Bucs offense being way out of sync.
The big plays looked nice, although once again it seemed like alot of it was the mistakes by the defense.
Romo wasn't very comforting early in the game, but hopefully he is able to preform under pressure in the future, he had much better throws in the second half.
I agree with alot that RayMan said, some good spots but we need to get a few things together if we want to beat anyone in our division.
That is what good teams do though. You take advantage of the mistakes the other team makes.
Romo looked better in the 2nd half even though he did miss some guys and tried to force stuff in the 4th quarter. Luckily it didn't bite us in the ass. Our running game was pretty good but we still need to run it more imo. Choice, Jones and Barber need to touch the ball.
Mike Jenkins needs to get his head out of his ass and know what his responsibility is on every play.
Our special teams is already 1000x better than last season, and only after one game. Minus the muffed punt/kick the ball out of bounds on one punt I was never worried like last season.
That being said Tampa came to play today. Leftwhich is one tough mother fucker. He kept getting up after taking hit after hit and I was impressed.
That is what good teams do though. You take advantage of the mistakes the other team makes.
I disagree in that the Miles TD wasn't anything even remotely close to a TB mistake. Romo put that ball in the absolute perfect spot and then he did the rest.
I'm just laughing at the fact that our offense was supposed to suck ass without TO and Romo just put up the most yards he's ever put up in his career and never turned the ball over.
If they fix their issues on run defense, they're gonna blow the doors off the Giants next week.
It's the same thing that's been the problem for all recent years. Not having a true #1 QB is our main offensive setback and giving up the big plays on defense. Just because Leftwich is a little better than Garcia, and our RBs are better, and our D is a little faster doesn't mean our problems are fixed. We have the same problems we've always had, and now have another. Our lock kicker that we could always count on was sent to the curb, and now we have a kicker that sucks ass.
I can appriciate that you stuck by Gruden all those years, and you're trying to stick behind these guys. But we need some real shaking in the Bucs organization.
False.
Jeff Garcia is miles ahead of Byron Leftwich.
Anyways...
Dallas played well. I would have loved to see better run defense, but whatever.
Mike Jenkins INT on the "penalty" would have been nice.
Anthony Spencer really needs to step up this year to take some pressure off Ware. They doubled up Ware all game, and Spencer didn't / couldn't take advantage of it.
Wade Phillips needs to stop playing this fluffy ass pass D that he's been doing for the last year and a half, and stop having this mentality of letting the other team pass underneath us. Our Run D isn't good enough for that.
I would also like to see less Bobby Carpenter and more Bradie James blitzing.
Keith Brooking = Win.
Also I am loving the fact that Romo showed the world he doesn't need T.O. We'll be just fine, and I have been saying it all along. I'm so happy I don't have to swallow my words.
When are people going to start to realize that not only does Witten have the best hands at the TE position, but this guy can really block when he has to. Witten isn't the fastest guy in the world either, it seems like defenses don't respect him. The guy continues to get open, and even when he isn't he still makes the play.
Our Special Teams is looking spectacular. Buehler hitting 6yds deep in the endzone every Kickoff really helps. Matt McBriars leg looks stronger than ever. 60yd punts are ftw. If only we could start tackling better.
