This. I guarantee you that those most severely affected by the storm were not among the 70,000 who dropped $500 plus on playoff tickets, or running up $300 bar tabs on Bourbon St.

Anyone else excited for ESPN showing a slow moving video of New Orleans post Katrina where they edit it to darken the sky make it look more horrifying and then have a sound clip of a Saints game playing over it?

Hell, I was negatively impacted by Katrina to the tune of $100,000 in lost equity and loans to cover damage not covered by insurance plus a negative $500 per month on rental property rates taking a dive after the storm and I was still at the game. I know there are tons of people that still live in a FEMA trailer (or worse) and don't have the basic necessities of life but it was that was before the storm for large chunks of New Orleans.

There were people at the game that I thought should have spent their money on soap, food or clean clothes but they were there. That's just part of New Orleans, people either have some means or they are just destitute.

You are like an Oracle of knowledge on all things remotely located near Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Do you have one of the "Seeing Stones" (or, in correct terms, palantir) from Lord of the Rings which makes you omnipotent?

I don't understand what you're saying with that last sentence. Would you mind restructuring it for me?

Those were just the people from Hattiesburg. They had no connection whatsoever with New Orleans residents severely affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Just throwing it out there...Sportscenter just did some musings of the Vikings vs. Saints game. They showed 8 clips, and 7 of them were simply bad calls missed by the refs in the Saints favor. The other clip was the Vikings having 12 men in the huddle.

Please try to keep up. I went to college at Southern Miss in Hattiesburg during the Favre years (87-91) and lived there until my mid 20's. When the storm hit, we owned a home in Bay St. Louis, MS (next town south of Kiln) that is about a quarter mile from the waterfront. That is also where Hurricane Katrina actually struck. New Orleans escaped serious damage from the actual storm until the levees broke and flooded the city the day after the storm passed. The town where we owned a home was wiped off of the map and is still in shambles. We spent almost a month there after the storm trying to salvage what we could of the Acadian style beach home that we had purchased as a long term investment.

So if you are talking about any part of the gulf coast region that is covered by the 90 mile radius between Hattiesburg, New Orleans or Bay St. Louis, I have close friends and family all over the place and probably understand it a little better from either personal or shared experience better than you do. No seeing stones required.

Fortunately, I can afford soap and a ticket.

You are really talking from your buttocks. Hattiesburg took a bigger hit from Katrina than New Orleans. Thousands of homes were severely damaged or destroyed and people were without power and water for weeks.

New Orleans did not get hit by Katrina. The levees broke and flooded the city right about the time Mayor Ray Nagin was giving a news conference and said the city "had dodged a bullet" because of the storm turning on a more eastward path at the last hour.
