i highly doubt that teams started to play a lot closer and the pats defense wasnt playing well
Alright, I'm gonna be the first to say it...

Terribly overrated? I guess throwing 50 TDs and 8 ints is a normal season for an NFL QB. He hasnt thrown over 14 interceptions in a season through his whole career. Terribly overrated?
Matt Cassel is doing great as a replacement for Brady, but he is know Brady. Not only is Brady helpful to the offense but he can help the defense as well by having long drives on offense to give the defense a rest. Too may times this year has cassel gone 3 and out because he cant connect on third and long. Brady would also hit Moss deep when hes wide open 99 out of 100 times.Something Cassel hasnt been able to do all year.Comment

its the system. the spread offense is an offense that is hard to contain. lets not mention the preasence of wes welker and randy moss. although cassell and moss are never on the same page, teams still scheme for him. and welker, hes a qbs best friend, the ultimate checkdown machine. throw him the ball on 5 and 7 yard routes, and he will make you look better than you actually are.Comment

Cassel does not have the timing that Brady developed over the years. That's the problem with back ups.
I mean com'on... and you seem like the type of person that says Brady is better than Peyton. And if you look at Brady 50 Td's you'll see he played the whole season and they threw the Ball 80+% of the time... Brady also threw the ball round 571 times. Now just to throw this out there.... When Peyton threw 48, his RB still made 1000 yards, he sat out the last game where the back up threw 2 Td's and check this... Peyton threw like 496 times that season....
My point? If you throw the ball that much you're either going to throw a lot of picks or Td's. Luckly for Brady last year he had 3 fast ass mothafuckas for WR's. Moss w/ a good QB is unstoppable, Stallworth is subpar but was still a threat, and nobody can check a slot man who's also a return man in Wes. No LB can check him so that was open plus he had an alright TE. There was no reason for their passing offense to fail and I guess they proved it would not. Of course until it mattered Week 19...

I did not mention anything about manning. The only thing I said was that I didnt agree with you saying Brady was Terribly Overrated.
I do think Brady is better but not just becasue of the record. If I went by records for everything then I would say Brett Favre is the worst QB cause he has thrown the most Interceptions in his career.
The patriots also got 1000 rushing yards with there RB last year. Same can be said for manning too about being overrated. Manning doesnt have a running game this year and look how hes playing aside from a couple games. Since he has no running game he cant do his play action pass.Comment

I did always think Brady got too much credit in those final drives in the Superbowls. It's a lot different to be tied in those situations (like he was) than it is to be BEHIND in those situations.
The only situation I remember where he was in a last minute drive and was behind, he threw a pick at Indianapolis in the playoffs.Comment

But anyways, I'd rather have Cassel than most of the League's current starters (Shaun Hill, Flacco (close one), Grossman, Ferotte, Russel (injured?), Pennington, Edwards, Campbell, Orlovsky, Bulger, Fitzpatrick, Thigpen). I just don't see how you can say he's one of the worst starting QB's, especially with this year.Comment

Yeah, why would anyone believe someone is good because they put up good stats? Pfft, fools.

Those were obviously the closest, Campbell may have been a reach, but I still thing right now, I'd still rather Cassel then those other three and definitely Thigpen, whose only started three games, his best against two poor pass d's; and, according to your theory, isn't actually good just cause he put up decent statsLast edited by kyhadley; 11-15-2008, 12:35 PM.Comment

Matt Cassell will be a quality QB, and I bet he would be starting right now had he not had to back up at USC. The Patriots obviously knew what they were getting in Cassel when they drafted him, and that's why we have stuck with him for so long, but to say that Tom Brady is overrated i don't think so. Cassel never checks down to his 2nd and 3rd options, if the first guys not there, he's not throwing it, which can lead to inconsisten play. Brady always hangs in there in the pocket, and 50TD to 8INT isn't JUST because of a system.
Brady with Bellichick was a match made in heaven. A strong, intelligent QB matched with the spread offense is just asking for success, but I think Brady could be good anywhere he goes. I don't think that it's Brady being overrated, i think its more of NE front office selecting QB's that fit their scheme.Comment
