5 quarterbacks taken in the top 15? Seems ridiculous.
Only twice have 5+ QBs been drafted in the first round.

I guess there were 5 QBs taken in the top 12 in 1999. Still seems unlikely to happen this year though.

take it with a grain of salt but if Indianapolis chooses not to re-sign Joseph Addai Running back is going to be a legitimate need.
like I said though, with a grain of salt, The Offensive line needs to be upgraded immediately BUT Polian does like to grab offensive skill players high and the last time Indianapolis picked up an offensive tackle in the first round [on draft day] was Tarik Glenn.Comment

And the last time Indianapolis took an OT in the first round Peyton Manning was able to stand up straight for more than 1 second in the pocket. I know what your saying... but they have to do something on the o-line and hope that the skill positions stay healthy, not to mention the most value for RB's will be late 2nd-late 3rd round and it's a pretty deep WR class.
2 years ago when lack of talent in the Defensive Tackle position was killing us he decided to draft Donald Brown in the first round, the year before that when Indianapolis could have REALLY, and I mean REALLY used some talent at Linebacker Polian chose instead to pick up Anthony Gonzales.
Polian also is a huge proponent for the BPA philosophy, which theoretically explains the mans picks for the last 5 years, The last position Indianapolis drafted in the first round for an actual Glaring need was Joseph Addai after Edgerrin James skipped out west to Arizona.
Polian is also the same guy that picked 3 centers in one draft (all of which failed to pan out)
Depending on what happens in the playoffs and Indianapolis' draft # combined with how this offseason will turn out considering resigning so many of our free agents there could be a lot more needs than just offensive line.
Offensive line IS a need, no colts fan will ignore that, but Charlie Johnson isn't the worst tackle in this league and while the offensive line does has issues they aren't so detrimental that the team can't make the playoffs because they're so bad. I could see Polian picking up some mid round guys at offensive line positions and trying to get them to work.
Also, if there's a legitimate Skill player at the RB position or WR position on the board you never know what Polian is going to do. Like I said, Indy hasn't picked up an offensive lineman in the first round since Polian's first year here.
Glenn (G), Manning, James, Morris, Wayne, Freeney, Clark, Jackson, Addai, Gonzales, Brown, Hughes.
1 QB, 1 OL, 1 LB, 2 WR's, 2 RB's, 1 TE, a CB, and a DE.
That said, I WANT to see a tackle drafted, I can guarantee just about every fan in Indianapolis WANTS to see an offensive lineman, but with Polian you NEVER know.
EDIT -
Polian is also a luxury pick guy, despite having arguably the best defensive end combo in the NFL he used our first pick last year to pick up a DE.
Falling in line with Polian with a mock is tough.Comment

Polian has done great plugging in small school guys here and there so he can afford to draft skill position early, but this season has been a wake up call IMO, I think he's too smart to continue drafting positions that are not huge needs. Without dominant lineman again there will be no run game, which means no playaction game, which means Peyton getting rocked, which means next year the Colts may not pull the division out of their asses again. They seem to be (very) slowly declining... then they have a great year... then decline... they NEED an offensive line to add stability.Comment

Yeah well maybe this time around Bill will agree. :ionno:
Just saying if we're trying to guess what Polian will do on draft day by picking the best tackle on the board and using Indianapolis' issues in the regular season as an explanation doesn't hold any more value than Polian picking up a Wide out or Safety with the pick.
I've never been too into the draft classes and I can't say I know a lot about this class, but given Polians history I would say it would be a safer bet to assume Polian will go BPA if it means we can pick up a DT, DB, WR, or maybe RB (big maybe here though) if there's a guy there of higher value than a tackle. If there's a tackle on the board come Polian's pick who is the best player available when compared to every other receiver, corner, safety, Defensive tackle, or even runningback then it's a fair guess.
again,
Ignoring glaring team needs is nothing new to Polian.Comment
