Second most overrated coach in football behind Mike
Shanahan .. Titans kept him a month too long though. They could have pursued a better assistant - still good decision to make the change.

I thought I read he left on his own, since he was a lame duck with one year left on his contract and that he wouldnt have any support or backing.

besides being built like Superman in college and showing up to training camp 15 lbs overweight, that makes it hard for me to root for him. He was one of the younger guys in the league so i think he has a bright future ahead of him but he has some growing up to do for sure.

Good to see you check TitanInsider as well, Darren McFarland is a cool mfer who got fucked over by 104.5 for a younger cheaper UT asskisser. Im not exactly sure why Terry McCormick left the city paper but they bring the goods on that site.

Here's another link Darren just posted on Facebook

Nepotism to blame for Fisher exit??

Part of the reason for Jeff Fisher's departure with the Tennessee Titans could be tied to his son Brandon.

Sources indicated to TitanInsider that Brandon Fisher, who volunteered on the staff during the latter part of last season, was being groomed by his father to take a spot on the staff.

According to a source, general manager Mike Reinfeldt initially signed off on the hire, but with Titans owner Bud Adams, hiring family members is strictly forbidden.

Sources said that when Jeff and Brandon Fisher wanted to go to the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., this week, Jeff Fisher was told that Brandon could not go with him at the Titans' expense nor could he have a spot on the staff.

That would help to explain why Fisher was not at the Senior Bowl this week, despite his need to hire three assistant coaches and evaluate quarterbacks who are available in the draft, such as Jake Locker and Ricky Stanzi.

Adams' policy of no nepotism has come into play before with the Titans. It was reported that Gregg Williams could have been rehired to be the team's defensive coordinator in 2008, but did not take the job because the Titans would not hire his son.

Likewise, part of the reason it is believed that Floyd Reese fell out of favor with Adams in 2006 as general manager was because he had his son on staff during that final season.

Another underlying factor in Fisher's departure was the matter of Chuck Cecil even after his contract was extended a few weeks before he was fired, meaning that Adams is paying Cecil a salary in 2011 despite him being fired a week ago.

I don't like Bud's rule about the family members, mainly cause it fucked us over with Williams, and he goes on to win the SB the next season.

Fisher trying to be loyal to Chuck Cecil was ridiculous though. He was in over his head as soon as the fourth quarter started against Pittsburgh in the 2009 opener with that prevent defense that let them get back in it.

e: And yeah, Bud needs to sell the team. He's entering Al Davis territory with some of the shit he does now.

Honestly, as a Colts fan, I'm disappointed he didn't say. On the same hand, I'm happy that Jacksonville keeps Del Rio around too.

Fisher, at one time, was a legitimate threat to do work in the AFC South [George, McNair], but he's lost touch with his team, from an outside perspective, on a very public scale at times. I don't think Fisher was ever really ready to hand this team over to Vince Young, something that I think a lot of Titans fans grew to resent him over.

Either way, I would have loved to have kept him, I don't think he's got the tools or coaching ability to keep up with Peyton Manning, much the same as Jack Del Rio, which is really all that matters anymore. Caldwell's just a puppet. This is Peyton's division.

Titans fans should be careful with what they wish/hope for. In Fisher's tenure the team has had success and has remained one of the more respected organizations.....I'm not sure that without Fisher the Titans have the infastructure to sustain any measure of the success it has had.

I wanted to keep Fisher over Young if we had to choose one, to blow the whole thing up and boot both is stupid to me. Oh well im not an absentee NFL owner so i have no say in the situation.

The situation sucks but they probably wont play football anyway next season.

just as happy as you were while Fisher was here, titans fans are happy about you guys having Caldwell. Without Peyton Caldwell is fired within 6 weeks, so please keep that guy around.

I rather take both out of the equation because they were both owed a lot of money this coming season and it's a lame duck situation for both.

Keeping Fisher means we go through a season with a patch-work coaching staff (cause who would want to take a coaching gig here as an assistant when Fisher has one year left on his contract) and if we draft a QB, then when Fisher leaves the next season, he has to learn a brand new offensive system.

Vince is owed too much money if he were to play this season and despite everything he's done and the progression he was making, we need to go in a new direction and find a new franchise guy.

The thing that really sucks about this is the timing, like I mentioned before. This organization needs some fresh blood and a change of the guard at the HC position but it's tougher to do that when the best candidates already found new jobs.

Regardless, I'm pretty excited because I haven't had to go through a coaching change during my time as a fan of the Titans and Penn State. Most of the pieces are there so hopefully the new guy (my preferred choice is probably Perry Fewell, although I haven't mentioned him in my earlier posts) won't have a hard time having success.
