I have the same question... is he stupid because his college offense was built to go to 1st read, maybe 2nd and then take off? Because his coaches demanded that from him. He seems to understand things and he gets football, but then again I know that "every single" black QB instantly comes into the league being labeled as stupid, they have for years, McNabb was borderline retarded, Young was too dumb to win games in the NFL, Vick was too stupid, Doug williams was too stupid, Josh Freeman was too raw AND stupid (even tho he seems to be doing pretty dam well and is pretty similar to Cam, without the college wins) shit the only one that really made sense was Jamarcus Russell.

Meanwhile Alex Smith was incredibly smart and talented coming out, same with David Carr, Tim Couch, Ryan Leaf, Brady Quinn, Matt Leinart, JP Losman, Kyle Boller the list goes on of "smart" QB's. I'd take the "dumb" incredibly talented Cam Newton over the "smart" guys. Basically a scrambler is stupid, a pocket guy is smart.

          Newton won't be a bust.

Von Miller, Julio Jones or Christian Ponder are my picks for biggest bust of 2011.

I agree with Ponder... I think Miller will end up like Aaron Curry did... just kinda falling out of the spotlight quietly but still havign decent production. Julio I don't think it's possible to be a bust, Tony G and Roddy take so much pressure off him it's not he's going in to be the star WR on a talentless team.

I'll go with Von Miller. I wouldn't say it if he was with a 3-4 team. I don't like the fit with him in the 4-3. Takes away his best asset, which is rushing the passer. The Denver front 4 is also not going to do him any favors in run defense. It definitely rubs me the wrong way that he's drawn comparisons to Derrick Thomas. He's not even close.

Fairley will be fine. Suh and Vanden Bosch won't let him slack.

That Gruden question was unfair tough, because Auburn doesn't have play calls like that. I really don't understand why people get so caught up on that snippet.

What have you seen from him that makes you think he isn't "quick" or a "sharp guy"? I just want to know the basis for this argument. Is it just a feeling? IMO its one thing to questions a guys ability or desire, but an entirely different thing to question a guys intelligence. There are QBs that came in the league with the same question about intelligence and they've done well, so I don't think questioning someone's intelligence is the way to go. Guys who fail at the position don't fail because of a lack of intelligence, but because they don't have the necessary skills or ability, or because they just don't care enough.

Just most of the interviews he was in....I don't get the impression that he is bright....there are a million interview from this guy. When I hear Sam Bradford or Stafford speak they sound like they know what they want to say. It is just a personal feeling....they all could be fucking idiots for all I know but what else can I go by.

My main problem with Cam Newton and Jake locker, and it is not their fault, is how can a guy learn to play under center in 1 year after playing Shotgun QB for his whole life? The learning curve is so high and now your in the NFL when the speed of the game is 10 fold compared to college.

Take Mark Sanchez for example...another brainiac, he played in an USC pro offense style and he struggles in the NFL. Freaking Jets don't let him throw the ball past 10 yards most plays. Granted Sanchez is no where near the specimen that Cam is but I am not sure how much of a factor that plays at the NFL QB position.

As far as the video.... what you are implying is that Cam Newton is dumb because he can not recall a long verbal play from Auburn, correct? Now... the fact that Gus has mostly numbered plays and short simple terms in the offensive playbook would have nothing to do with this, correct? That's like saying that the head cook in a strictly vegetarian restaurant is not good at what he does because he's never been asked to cook steak based dishes. That in no way shape or form means that he isn't good, or that he isn't willing to learn, or that he can't learn.
