I wonder what Marshall Faulk has to say about this.

Rumor has it he was trying to work out a multi year deal with New England, but they were only willing to offer him one year.

Not sure how true that is, or if they will actually come to an agreement later on.

New England just acquired Chad Ochocinco and still has Branch, Edelman, and Welker. Doubt they really try for Randy.

Cris Carter: Patriots offered Randy Moss a one-year deal

Christopher Price reports: Cris Carter, a former teammate of Randy Moss in Minnesota, hinted Monday the Patriots offered Moss a one-year deal to return for the 2011 season, but the wide receiver wanted a multiyear contract. When that didn’t materialize — along with a possible deal with the Jets — he made the decision to call it a career.

"What I think forced (his retirement) was No. 1, New England trading for (Chad) Ochocinco," Carter said when asked about Moss on ESPN. "That’s the No. 1 place he wanted to go to. His biggest problem with New England was he didn’t want a one-year deal. New England wanted to sign him to a one-year deal. As you can see, New England gave Chad that three-year deal.

"The next team he wanted to go to was the New York Jets. Now they had someone, a big receiver, who decided to take the one-year deal: Plaxico Burress.

"When those two teams were removed from him and his ability to go play with them, I think that Randy reacted a lot like the Randy that came into the league, like the Randy we’ve seen, and he said, ‘You know something? I’m not just going to play for anyone.’"
Not sure how reliable Cris Carter is, but surely you can't say having Edelman is enough reason to avoid going for Moss?

I've said it before.. .Moss is the single greatest offensive weapon anyone our age has seen on a football field. Not Barry not Emmitt not Rice....noone did what randy moss did. I don't care about longevity or his raider days etc. I'm not talking best ever. Just as a weapon as a guy that instantaneously demanded the best defensive effort and simply could not be stopped when he felt like playing. His physical dominance over his peers was ridiculous. Two greatest offenses had him lined up wide. Greatest qb season was throwing to him. 15-1 ,16-0 teams the last 15 years were Moss teams. A 100 yr old Cunningham ,walking disaster Jeff George and a dodo brain like Culpepper had MVP candidate seasons throwing to him.
To do that when your getting maybe 6-10 passes thrown at you per game is retarded. Knowing the guy ran only half a passing tree and was a mental midget most of his career it becomes more absurd.

Noone outside of marshal Faulk has impacted teams so dramatically and raised the level of offensive play like Moss did in the modern era (from non qb position) . Faulk IMO despite having great numbers before wasn't fully appreciated until martz came along with Moss it basically didn't matter. The real question in hindsight is just how atrocious are the raiders?? There has to be a madden rating of -23 ovr for anyone in that uni.

Randy Moss reminds me a lot of Manny Ramirez. Both guys were just ridiculously talented and flat out performed when they had to, but they just didn't seem to care for large chunks of their respective careers.. and you just have to wonder how good they would have been if they did.

Can you imagine if Moss had half the work ethic of Jerry Rice? He'd have shattered every record written.

                                I refuse to imagine.
Immense talent (Barry, Jeff George ,Moss) usually leads to questionable desire.
Its those guys with 1 or 2 elite physical traits that happens to have hof drive(Rice, Brady ,Emmitt) that usually make the difference and end up as winners and record holders.

Its extremely rare to see freakish physical gifts meet world class desire....let alone have that avoid injury. Psychology and numbers make it rare.

One perfect example of it happening is going to the hof this year.
