Former NFL player and coach Corwin Brown was taken from his Indiana home in an ambulance Friday after a seven-hour standoff with police, WNDU-TV reported.
The network said Brown had suffered unknown injuries. The cause of his injuries and his condition were also unknown.
A SWAT team was dispatched to the 41-year-old's home in Granger, just outside South Bend, after shots were heard inside the residence, according to WSBT-TV.
Police responded to what began as a domestic abuse call shortly before 1 p.m. local time, according to The South Bend Tribune.
Brown's children and his wife made it out of the home safely, a neighbor told WSBT-TV.
A former coach of Brown's, Bob Chmiel, assisted police at the scene in their negotiations, WNDU-TV reported.
Chmiel told Brown, "Let me help you. Be a Michigan man today. We've had great times in the past, we'll have great times in the future. Let me help."
Brown, who served as a defensive coach at nearby Notre Dame from 2007 to 2009, played eight seasons in the NFL with the New England Patriots, New York Jets and Detroit Lions.
He served as the Patriots' defensive backs coach in 2010. He was a defensive backs coach for the Jets from 2004-2006
