Is it time to just throw James Harrison out of the league?

I don't know man, wrong place wrong time constantly...
I guess the guy just plays hard all the time relentlessly. I believe he has been on the record of saying it is football and hurting people to some degree or whatever. Its just whatever to him, he has worked hard and earned everything he has so why would he stop.
From Kent State, cut how many times to where he is now..
But really, I couldn't tell you and I speculated some but I don't really want to speculate lol.. I know everyone despises the guy and I understand why

Incredibly stupid, yes, league ban worthy, no. Suspend him and sit him down to drill it into his head that you cannot do that shit anymore. Always pisses me off when a Steeler does that, but I think Clark is way more frequent with leading with the head, it just isn't called as often. A ban is way too extreme a punishment though, Suh's actions on Thanksgiving were just as bad and he had prior incidents but no talk of bans arose.Comment

There's a difference between playing hard and playing with intent to maim. And I'm pretty sure there are plenty of guys (read: everyone else in the league) who play hard and don't have this happen nearly as often.
I don't give a shit about his story or where he came from, he should stop because he is threatening people's lives. The sport is not bigger than that.Comment

There's nothing natural about running full speed into a guy that's running full speed at you. I guess this puts me in the "man's game" crowd. I understand your point, but how is that any different than a power running back completely ducking his head and shoulders to gain a yard on 3rd and 1? Should they be penalized?
The league is treading a tight rope trying to prevent these injuries. To go so far as to throw the guy out of the league (especially for that hit last night) would be outrageous. I would hardly consider it a dirty hit.
Harrison is a strong, physical player. He hit a weak, frail quarterback, at full speed, while the QB was stopping to throw the ball. It's gonna look bad. It's not like Harrison launched his helmet into McCoy's; he puts his forearms up, and unloads all his strength into the hit. The result is he hit McCoy in the face, so flag him. That's the rule. It was hardly dirty, though.
For anyone who missed it, here's the video:

I agree
They still signed up to play a violent game

Can I toss something out and get a reasonable answer? How is this hit compared to the first down goal line hit by Gocoung (sp?) on Mendenhall?
I know the difference that Mendenhall is a HB and free game, but from the hit standpoint..
i thought you were supposed to be some kind of smart guy here at vsn? they are all players, if you protcect one you got to protect them all. even colt was cool with james when he came back in. it is a violent sport people. you dont wanna see people hurt go watch synchronized swimming or curling. it is pure physics, you cannot stop a 300 pound object on a dime.

It's not a form tackle. He is hitting McCoy as hard as he can to knock him senseless. You don't need to execute a "clean" tackle when you're superior in size and strength.
Not saying he shouldn't be flagged, he hit his helmet. That's the rule. But you guys are acting like he launched his face at McCoy. It looks a lot more to me like he's exploding his chest/shoulders into McCoy to make an impact hit and his helmet caught McCoy in the chin.
Again, no one said it was a form tackle. Harrison is trying to hit McCoy with a lot of force; he doesn't need to go "numbers to numbers" because he's physically superior to McCoy. Colt is going down either way, might as well give him a good shot.
EDIT: To all the guys who think it was intentional, what makes you think Harrison would hit a player standing upright helmet to helmet? What's the purpose of that technique when he can clearly crush him otherwise?Comment

I don't care what position the player is, that kind of hit should not be allowed in the sport.
And no one is saying he should have stopped on a dime, but that the helmet to helmet contact was easily avoidable. Obviously at that point he is going to run into him. And just because it is a violent sport it doesn't mean life-threatening injuries can't try to be prevented.
Colt probably was cool with James because he had no idea who he was or what was going on.Comment
