is Jonathan Martin a dumb ass or did someone do something to him worth talking about?

I don't think some of you realize how clever and manipulative some "bullies" can be.

My gut tells me that Incognito has been doing this his entire life and is quite good at it. "bullying" can be anything from hiding Martin's football pads every single day before he gets to the field house, making other teammates ignore/alienate him during lunch or in the weight room, putting smelly shit in his locker or car, etc.

It's not as easy as, "Martin needs to stand up for himself." He is in a tough situation, he can't fight somebody for hiding his pads (especially if he can't prove who did it even though he probably knows who did), and he doesn't want the rest of the team to hate him more for going to the coaches or management and "tattle-tailing."

I played with some damn near professional bullies that were incredibly smart in how they picked on the weak. They did just enough to push buttons without actually making it look like they were doing anything all that wrong.

It's simply not ok. Teammates are supposed to help each other and stick together. Especially Olinemen and especially adults.

In high school, our starting QB used to fuck with our kicker all the time. Sometimes it was light-hearted ribbing but it often ventured into bullying territory. It was awkward because he was a good friend of mine but everyone on the team kind of deferred to the QB. One Friday night he decided he was just going to wear the kid's under armour, and that was that. Got pretty awkward, because what are you going to do? Start a fight over an under armour shirt? Are other teammates supposed to confront the starting QB in the locker room, on behalf of the kicker, hours before kickoff?

Nothing good can come from that type of culture, it's not productive for the locker room. It's not a tough-or-soft issue, really. Just an issue of a colossal prick who will never realize why what he is doing is not ok.

Awwww shit, posted around an hour or so ago I guess (Hyde covers Dolphins for years at Ft. Lauderdale's Sun-Sentinel)

Dave Hyde ‏@davehydesports2mWas told if you think this Martin-Incognito story is ugly, "Stick around - it's going to get uglier."
EDIT: Let's not all forget Mike Pouncey's probably going to be arrested in the near future too for his actions with something Hernandez did.

Interstate gun trafficking! Quality group of men in that Florida locker room. Let's not forget that Reggie Nelson more than likely shot a guy with Hernandez in 2007.

We're going ot need an entire OL next year! Martin-gone, Incognito-gone, Pouncey-jail, John Jerry-FA/sucks, Clabo-FA/old/sucks, McKinnie-actually has played well, but old/retire.

Among the texts that Jonathan Martin made available to his parents, and then, eventually the Dolphins and the NFL, include those in which Richie Incognito refers to Martin, who is biracial, as a "half-n*****," according to a source who was privy to the communication.

There are several instances of threats as well, the sources said, and overall disturbing exchanges, including one in which Incognito refers to defecating in Martin's mouth.

Incognito also made reference to tracking down members of Martin's family and harming them in the texts as well, according to a source.
In some instances, that kind of rhetoric might be shaken off or ignored, but, given the track record of incidents between Incognito and Martin, and how sustained it had become, Martin truly felt that Incognito might be capable of inflicting harm, and for his safety getting away from the team was in his best interests.

The NFL, apprised of the evidence, began upper-level meetings on the case this morning as it launches its investigation. People with access to some of the exchanges believe in time this situation could become a springboard for further policies and practices at the league-wide level in regards to hazing, verbal harassment and perhaps also stricter codes in terms of financial harassment and actions whereby rookies are required by veterans to pick up excessive tabs and bills as a rite of passage.

An update to the Dolphins harassment case: Richie Incognito sent text messages to Jonathan Martin that used a racial slur, and mentioned defecating in the young tackle's mouth, Jason La Canfora reports.

Well thankfully it's only the white guys who are racist!

Also, somewhere right now Antonio Smith is doing this

                    Per rotoworld:

The threatening voicemail Richie Incognito left for Jonathan Martin has been revealed and heard by both the Dolphins and the NFL.

ESPN's Adam Schefter has the vile quotes. "Hey, wassup, you half n----- piece of (expletive). I saw you on Twitter, you been training ten weeks. (I want to) (expletive) in your (expletive) mouth. (I'm going to) slap your (expletive) mouth. (I'm going to) slap your real mother across the face (laughter). (Expletive) you, you're still a rookie. I'll kill you." Jonathan Martin has left the team and Incognito has been suspended indefinitely.

Hazing and friendly ribbing is one thing, verbally and mentally abusing someone is another.

Obviously, Martin is a little weak minded and already has a hard time fitting in. I'm sure he has some friends on the team but incognito is just being an asshole because he knows he can. Incognito is a total piece of shit.
The thing about assholes is that they usually aren't as stupid as they seem. You want to bring Incognito up on charges for theft/fraud/assault/whatever that's fine by me, but if Martin couldn't even attempt to work his way out of these situations, the guy wasn't long for this league in the first place. Likewise, this isn't Middle School, someone's doing this shit to you, you have 3 options: a.) Head to the coach b.) head to a legal entity c.) punch the asshole in the face. It's a classic case of Incognito pushing it as far as he can before Martin pushed back, the thing is the guy never even tried to resist, at least it seems from all reports.

You're assuming and speculating an awful lot for my liking.

How do you know Martin didn't even attempt to work his way out of these situations?

Martin is not a violent person or a fighter like Incognito. I agree that people should be able to stand up for themselves and defend themselves when necessary but I don't think it's fair to assume that every person must know how to fight for themselves and if they don't they are at fault. We live in a civilized society where you shouldn't have to physically fight for your well being. That is asinine.

Martin is a well educated football player. Incognito is a redneck thug. You can't just allow football players to police themselves because shit like this starts to happen. It is a big deal and guys like Incognito shouldn't even be allowed in the league. He is 100% at fault.

I also really like how some of you think it is so easy to stand up to bullies like Incognito. My guess is that you'd shit your pants if someone like him ever threatened to put his hands on you.

I feel for the guy, not everyone's built for "I'll see you in the streets and take care of you myself"

I mean it's no different than a regular job......if a co-worker's harrassing you in the vile manner that Incognito has allegedly done to Martin, most people are going to do the same thing and go to the higher ups and report it....who the fuck wants to or should have to deal with that in the work place?

I know football players have the image of ROARRRR and fuck with me at your own risk, but that's not being realistic

No shit I would, because he's got me by about 5-6 inches and 140-150 pounds! Now if I was 2 inches taller than him and the same weight, not so much.

With that said, Incognito has clearly crossed the line with this shit, and I'd say his playing career is over in the NFL. However, you're getting a little too deep into the Dr. Phil shit in this thread.
