    Cortland Finnegan signs with Miami

After two mostly miserable seasons with the Rams, in which Cortland Finnegan went from playing as perhaps a top-10 cornerback while coming over from Tennessee into becoming one of the lowest-rated in the league, St. Louis released him earlier this month.

Now, it sounds like he's going to land at a place that apparently enjoys giving cornerbacks who are down on the luck another chance.

A season after signing Brent Grimes, who was coming off a torn Achilles, and watched him play as one of the best cornerbacks in the league, the Dolphins are going to see if Finnegan can pull off the same kind of magic and will sign him to a two-year deal, according to NFL.com's Albert Breer.

When Finnegan -- ranked as the No. 114 free agent on the CBSSports.com list -- signed with the Rams after the 2011, he finished a season in which, by the Pro Football Focus metrics, he was the second-best cornerback in the league (behind only Darrelle Revis).

But this year, he ranked No. 109 out of 110 players, and he missed the final nine games of the season with an eye injury.

Aside from the new job, here's something positive for Finnegan. After his prove-it deal in 2013, Grimes signed a four-year, $32 million contract with the Dolphins earlier this month.

Nothing wrong with taking a gamble, but two years for a guy who was almost the worst corner in the league? That's not taking the gamble correctly
