Desean Jackson release: Yay or Nay?

So what do you think of Kelly's decision to let DJax go for nothing? Vs Philly, he had 9 catches for 243yds & a TD and was instrumental in eliminating the Eagles from the playoffs yesterday. He has 54 rec & 1053 yds despite what has to be one of the most dysfunctional QB situations in the NFL.

Personally, I'm glad to see DJax stick it to his former team. I thought it was foul for the Eagles to try to paint him as a gang banger. And I think it was a selfish ego trip for Kelly to dump one of the most productive guys in the NFL because he didn't subscribe to Kelly's way of living his life. Like that was a disruption the locker room couldn't handle. But Riley Cooper's production & distraction was worthy of a contract extension.

So, glad to see Kelly preparing for the offseason. And since Colin Cowturd worships Kelly & Sanchez, even better.

If the coach doesn't want him, if he won't do what is asked, he gets cut. Hindsight is 20/20, but let's not forget that the whole story was not just the gang shit, that was added on after they got backlash from fans. Word was that Jackson wasn't (And I think anybody that watches football sees it) fully committed to being physical on the outside and blocking downfield. They replaced him with Sproles who I would say had a pretty solid year despite some injuries. But of course it looks like a stupid move after they got torched by Jackson, just like the Panthers got torched by Steve Smith, but in the end it was a decision the team felt was best.

I don't really think the whole gang thing had anything to do with Desean's release. Frankly, I think it was Chip Kelly deciding (rightly or wrongly) that he wasn't a good fit in his system/lockerroom/culture.
IMO, the Eagles missed the heck out of Desean Jackson the WR. He made a serious, serious difference how teams could play the Eagles' run game and was a clear home run threat.
The Eagles' biggest mistake IMO wasn't cutting Jackson, it was cutting him and letting him go to a division rival. Very stupid. They should have found a way to get him the hell out of the NFC altogether, because they had to know Jackson would get them more than once if he stayed in the NFC East.

I wonder if some teams, seeing how well Jackson played, regret not offering the Eagles a late round pick for him. I wonder what he could do for Seattle (though, to be fair, they had Harvin at that time last year).

Let it be an example to every dope who says "cut him and teach him a lesson!" as if that's how winning works. There's not a championship team ever lined up who doesn't have a few ex gang members and/or shitty people on the roster.

Well I'm glad you asked. Julio Jones is leading the league with the most catches over 20 yards with 30, Desean has exactly half of that at 15. 2nd place isn't anywhere close to Julio's 30 with Demaryius Thomas sitting at 23. Julio even missed a game this season and is still shitting all over everyone.

As an Eagles' fan, I do miss Desean. IMO, he made our run game way better and made opponents fear us more. I really like Maclin, but he doesn't make opponents fear us the way Desean did. Maclin more consistent and a better lockeroom guy, but opponents feared Desean.
That said, I trust Chip Kelly. I wish we didn't face Desean twice a year, but it is what it is ... and gotta trust Kelly.

DeSean is averaging 20 ypc. Julio has twice as many receptions as DeSean so the 30/15 comparison is moot or a push. But DeSean has a fuckin ridiculous 12 plays of over 40 yards. That's double the next closest guy with half the chances. (Julio has 3 fyi).

Essentially 1 out of every 3 times DeSean catches the ball it's over 20 yards, 1 out of every 4 or 5 receptions is over 40. That's retarded. When you consider who's throwing to him and who's opposite him it's even more preposterous.
D.Jackson is the leagues no.1 deep threat.

Jackson has half the catches, also missed a game, and has hot garbage throwing to him. He's also averaging over 20 yards a catch and 12 of his 15 catches for over 20 yards went for over 40 yards (Jones had 3).


But yea, totally, Jones is the best deep threat in the NFL

I don't think the Eagles cut Jax cause of whose contact list he was in. I think they purposefully insinuated he had gang connections to take the heat off of what was clearly not a football decision, but an ego one. Kelly didn't like Jax cause he wasn't doing it the Kelly way. That's the coach's prerogative, but I hate coaches like that. Some would rather lose 27-28 than win 10-9. Kelly was too gutless to admit that was the reason why he was letting Jax go. That his ego was too bruised watching someone be so good and not go to bed before 9pm. He knew he would have to explain that away, so the Philly organization concocted a false reason, damaging a man's rep.

I've watched Desean Jackson throughout his Eagles career. When Desean is motivated to play, he is a game changer. When he is not, you're more likely to see him jog through his routes.

IMO, Eagles would of finished where they were with or without Jackson. It's not like he raised the Redskins offense to another level. His two best games were against the Eagles..you know..the two games he was motivated to play.

I did say when Chip made the move that they have to be better overall this year or else he'll get hammered, whether it's fair or not.
