Ah ok, that makes sense. I was keeping an eye on the replay while watching the Braves game, I turned back and a 4-3 NYR lead was now a 5-4 deficit. Then I saw the empty-netter to clinch it for the Isles. Shitty give away.
I'm kind of jumping back into hockey feet first after a 10-12 year hiatus. I picked it up at the end of last season since I had just moved to NYC where there are always like 3 games a on TV at all times. Hope to catch a few live Rangers games this year, they're my adopted team.
Based on the 10 or so games I watched at the end of last season, and my extensive use of the Blue Shirts on NHL 10/11, I can surmise that this team really lacks scoring outside of Gaborik. Oh, and Henrik is the man. Anything else I should know?Comment

Gaborik is a top 5 winger in the NHL but very injury prone in the past. We picked up Frolov who should add a lot of scoring this season. Prospal gets us some points but is so old and is only a line 2 player. That's about the extent of our scoring so we really need some players to outdo themselves.
Guys like Christensen, Boyle, Avery are role players who actually aren't that bad. Derek Boogard is a serious enforcer but also Brandon Prust is a fiesty player and he gets in tussles a lot. Unbelievably it was Prust along with Shelley and Anisimov who led our offensive charge late last season. I like Prust a lot, he brings it every single night.
We've been waiting for Callahan and Dubinsky to become 60 point scorers for 3 seasons now and the jury is out on whether they will ever do that. However, Callahan is the future captain of the Rangers and Dubinsky has leadership potential too. Both of them wear their heart on their sleeve. Both are big hitters for their size. I expect Anisimov to make a leap this season in scoring, he's big and has great hands. Stepan has looked good but is a rookie so I don't expect much more than 15 goals.
Our captain Drury is overpaid and is not much more than a penalty killer any more. That said he is popular in the dressing room and is rightly a respected NHL veteran. But his contract is a serious albatross around our necks for the next few years.
Our back end is ok. Staal is a phenomenal defensive defenceman, I doubt he will ever be a dual threat guy though. Girardi is another defensive guy, blocks a ton of shots. Rozsival is inconsistent, he has some great defensive games and some lazy nights. He has a cannon shot but never releases it. Michael Del Zotto is young and small but he is already a very smart offensive player, probably the best on our blue line and if he develops a defensive game he will be a great player for us over many years. The other defensive spots are fought out between young guys like Michael Sauer and Matt Gilroy who are below average players at this point. I doubt either have a long-term future in the NHL.
Expect some whacky things, nights where we look phenomenal and swarm all over our opponents, nights where we look pathetic and sluggish, great penalty killing, great energy in the stands, relatively low scoring. We'll compete for one of the lower playoff spots.
Down in Hartford our best players are Grachev, Byers, Dupont, Weise and I expect all of them will make some appearances for the Rangers. McDonagh is down there too he will likely get an opportunity to come up and play D for us during the season.
Another point, treat any big free agent signing we make with caution as our GM is the worst in the NHL and just this off season got rid of the worst player contract in the history of the capped NHL imo (Wade Redden). he does trade pretty well though.Comment

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Islanders defenseman James Wisniewski(notes) was suspended by the NHL for two games Tuesday because of an obscene gesture he made toward Sean Avery(notes) during a game.
Wisniewski will sit out games at Washington on Wednesday, and at Pittsburgh on Friday for his actions that were caught on tape in the first period of Monday's 6-4 victory over the Rangers.
During a stoppage of play in the first period, Wisniewski and Avery chirped at each other. Wisniewski then made a gesture with his hand, directed at Avery.
Wisniewski said he didn't remember making a gesture, but video of the incident was on the YouTube website before the game was over.
"A lot of actions on the ice are regrettable," Wisniewski said in a statement. "I've been given a suspension from the league, and I'm going to accept it and move on from here."
While playing for Anaheim last season, Wisniewski was suspended on March 17 for eight games after he knocked Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook(notes) out of a game with a hard check into the glass.
Wisniewski is now considered a repeat offender under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement. Because of that he will lose two games' salary instead of two days' salary.
