Tough to compare with the Leafs when you traded them all away. There's no way to evaluate the Leafs scouts when you don't take a player.

Kessel is better than all of those players minus Nash. Schenn is decent too. I think it could be argued.

2000 - Brad Boyes (24th) - Then traded to San Jose along with Alyn McCauley and the 2003 1st round pick for Owen Nolan

2003 - No Draft Pick (traded to san jose)
2004 - No Draft Pick (traded to rangers)
2005 - Tuukka Rask (21st) - Traded to Boston for Andrew Raycroft (Was placed on waivers a year later)
2006 - Jiri Tlusty (13th) - Traded to Carolina for Philippe Paradis who was traded to chicago last year
2007 - No Draft Pick (used in the toskala trade)
        2008 - Schenn
        2009 - Kadri
2010 - No Draft Pick (Kessel Deal)
2011 - Had two first rounders but had no picks at the start of the season

See now if you're comparing the ability to identify talent, I don't think Toronto is worse at all.

Boyes produced much more than many players C-Bus drafted.
Rask is a capable NHL goalie with potential.
Schenn is a quality top 4 dman

Kadri is still out to decide upon.

Outside of Nash, Columbus is busts or bottom end talent.

The Leafs IMO have made better player selections when they did pick in comparison, they just poorly dealt 1st round picks for over the hill veterans (Leetch, Nolan, Toskala) that didn't give them any return.

So talent evaluation is better but awful asset management.

I thought you were talking about just bad 1st round day at the draft.

If you're talking about talent evaluation then yah toronto isn't anywhere near as bad.

I thought Atlanta would be the best team, but their problem was, new expansion team getting top talent and no other players to work with. If Heatley stays in Atlanta maybe Kovy and him start to do magic and turn things around.

I have been looking through teams, and yeah, it is hard to find someone that bad. The Islanders so far are as 'close' as they come as their mid 2000's are gone, but look at their last 5 first rounders, Okposo, Baily, Tavers, Niederreiter and Strome, they will be fine. You know those 5 are going no where.
All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

              "rammer" and "cummings"

The NHL series is a giver, Madden takes the load.

Atlanta's franchise died with Dan Snyder.

they had the 1-2 superstar punch, in their very young primes, which is basically required for a championship team and it was broken up by Heatley killing his teammate.

They could have built around them and become a more attractive destination for free agents.

And you really don't need a Joe Thornton to set up two superstars like that. A competent centre would do. One of the many play makers in the league would have fit right in between them, and watched his numbers skyrocket as Heater and Kovy dump in goals. They drafted Little in 2006, so he could foot the bill for that.

They were starting to turn the team around, and playing in a weak Southwest were basically it was Washington and no one else could have helped.

Kevin Dineen the panthers head coach said he wanted to have an open door policy with his players.... So he literally took the doors off his office, hinges and all.

                    lol thats awesome.

Thats solid. As a former player, he should know whether or not something like this will work, so go for it.

15 leafs hit the ice yestarday to begin pre camp work outs.

I also read pretty much most of the league will be doing the same over the next week. I think edmonton started on tuesday.

Good christ hurry up hockey. I can't take this baseball shit any longer.

Some of the Caps are at it too. Also, had an interesting article from the Post today confirming what many expected. Matt Bradley came out with his assessment of the team, didn't call out anyone specifically except for Alexander Semin however. I'll find that and post it tomorrow.

Looks like there will be an AHL outdoor game either this year or next year involving the marlies (leafs farm team) and the bulldogs (canadiens farm team) in hamilton.

Lombardi has been declared symptom free. If he comes back by november/december in decent shape and actually plays in the leafs lineup the trade with the predators will just look even more lop sided.
